RESOLUTION NO.

EXPRESSING THE BOARD'S POSITION IN SUPPORT
OF MAINTAINING A BASIN SYSTEM AND CREATING
A MANASOTA BASIN

WHEREAS, the SOUTHWEST FLORIDA WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT, hereinafter
called "DISTRICT", is a Water Management District as defined in Ch. 373, F.S.,
having been created by Ch. 61-691, Laws of Florida, as amended; and,

WHEREAS, the area of the District has been subdivided into Watershed
Basins and Sub-watershed Basins, as required by said Ch. 61-691, and has
functioned under a system of Basin Boards, with the various Basin Water
Management Boards being responsible for discharging the functions set forth
in said Ch. 61-691; and,

WHEREAS, the Governing Board finds it highly desirable to continue
functioning under a system of Basin Boards as described by Ch. 61-691 and as
further authorized by Ch. 373.0693, et seq., ss; and,

WHEREAS, a new area referred to as the Manasota Basin will soon become
a part of the District; and,

WHEREAS, a statement of further intent is needed in order to give
guidance to all parties, including the Governing Board of the Ridge and Lower
Gulf Coast Water Management District and the Governing Board of the Manasota
Basin.

NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the Governing Board of the Southwest
Florida Water Management District as follows:

1. That it hereby declares its intent, barring further statutory
change or legislative directive, to continue to function under a
system of Basin Boards as presently authorized by law.

2. That it desires to designate the Manasota Basin of the Ridge
and Lower Gulf Coast Water Management District as a new Basin
of the Southwest Florida Water Management District at the
instant it becomes part of the District.

3. That it directs the District staff to study the area of the
Manasota Basin, together with contiguous areas, to determine
if any minor boundary adjustments are desirable for such
Basin.

4. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Governor of
the State, to the Ridge and Lower Gulf Coast Water Management
District and to each member of the presently existing Governing
Board of the Manasota Basin.

PASSED and ADOPTED this day of 1976.
