A bill to be entitled

An act relating to flood control; amending Chapter 378,
Florida Statutes, by adding a new section 378.153 to en-
able flood control district to maintain peace and order
on district lands and other works of the district, and to
commission peace officers therefore; authorizing offering
rewards; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:


Section 1. Chapter 378, Florida Statutes, is amended by adding a new

section 378.153 to read as follows:

Section 378.153 Maintaining peace and order on district lands;

commissioning peace officers therefore. (1) The governing board of the

district shall have the power and its duties shall be, in addition to

powers and duties set forth elsewhere in this chapter: To supervise,

regulate and preserve all rights of way and other land and land interests

and works of the district lying within its jurisdiction; to establish

rules and regulations not inconsistent with law for the supervision, regu-

lation and preservation of all of the rights of way and other land and

land interests and works of the district lying within its jurisdiction,

as it may deem necessary to conserve the interests of the project or pro-

jects of flood control, water management, reclamation, recreation, con-

servation and allied purposes; and to appoint and commission persons to

preserve peace and order on right of way and other land and land interests

and the works of the district lying within its jurisdiction.

Persons so appointed and commissioned shall be placed under a fidelity

bond in the amount of $1000, payable to the flood control district, with

two or more good and sufficient sureties, to be approved by the governing

board of the district and filed with the respective clerks of the circuit

court, which bond shall be conditioned upon the faithful performance of

the duties of the office.

(2) The governing board of the district shall have the power

and is hereby authorized to offer rewards of up to $1,000.00 to any person

furnishing information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person

who has committed an unlawful act or acts upon the rights of way, land

or land interests of the district, or has destroyed or injured district

property or works of the district.

Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately upon becoming a

law.
