WATER REGULATORY DISTRICT ,
Notice is hereby given that, on Friday, August 30, 1968, at 10:00 A. M., at the
official office of the Southwest Florida Water Management District, (7 miles south
of Brooksville on U.S. Highway 41), Post Office Box 457, Brooksville, Florida
33512, the Board of Governors of the Southwest Florida Water Management District
shall hear and receive all testimony and evidence for the purpose of determining the
necessity for creating a water regulatory district under the authority of Section
373. 142, Florida Statutes, in the following area of the State of Florida located with-
in the Southwest Florida Water Management District, to wit: the entire area of
Hillsboroufh, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Cit-us, Hardee, DeSoto and Sumter
Counties, and portions of the area of Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Lake, Orange,
Polk and Charlotte Counties which are a part of the Southwest Florida Water
Management District pursuant to Chapter 61-691, Laws of Florida, as amended.
This notice shall be published once a week for two weeks in a newspaper or
newspapers published in and having a general circulation in every county in the
proposed regulatory district as hereinbefore described.
The Board of Governors of the Southwest Florida Water Management District re-
quest, when possible, that all testimony and evidence which is to be submitted
at said hearing be in written form for the help and convenience of the said Board
and all interested parties.

RESOLUTION NO. 258
CALL FOR A PUBLIC HEARING
FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING THE NECESSITY
FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A WATER REGULATORY DISTRICT
WHEREAS, the Southwest Florida Water Management District has exper-
ienced a prolonged drought which has caused increased well drilling and
increased drawdown of the piezometric surface of the Floridan Aquifer; and
WHEREAS, requests have been received from the Boards of County Com-
missioners of Hillsborough and Pasco Counties, and from other interested
organizations and citizens; and
WHEREAS, scientific data prepared by the U. S. Geological Survey in-
dicates that some surface effects, such as the lowering of levels of lakes,
are related to the volume of ground water being taken in the immediate area;
WHEREAS, during the past year, many lakes reached their lows of record
with major loss of aesthetic values, recreational values, and fishery; and
WHEREAS, District investigation has determined that a necessity exists
for the conduct of a public hearing to determine whether or not such a
water regulatory district should be established to serve the purposes of
Chapter 373, Florida Statutes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Governing Board of the Southwest
Florida Water Management District that a public hearing be conducted by
the Governing Board to determine whether or not a water regulatory dis-
trict should be established in the entire area of the Southwest Florida
Water Management District. The hearing shall be held onAugust 30, 1968,
at 10:00 A.M., in the District Headquarters Building in Brooksville; and
the public notice of such hearing shall be published as provided in
Chapter 373, Florida Statutes.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all interested parties be, and are hereby
invited to submit factural information at such hearing concerning the need
for a water regulatory district comprising the entire area of the Southwest
Florida Water Management District.
