CONTEMPLATION
Oh, Little Tom Brown and his youthful friend Dick,
Of the quiet town life have become very sick;
They have read of the West, and determined to go
To the land where resideth the red, heathen foe.

DETERMINATION
To obtain a supply of the sinews of war
Little Dick tries to open his uncle's safe door,
But hearing his kinsman, they leave in disgust,
And for Courtlandt Street ferry quite rapidly dust.

3

CONSU N
On the Delaware banks, close to Trenton they stand,
As once Washington did with his patriot band.
And theirfunds being short drd theirjourney quite long
They would now sell a knife or a "fop "for a song.

They would scalp the wild injuns or put them to flight;
They'd shoot to thefront, they'd attack in the rear,
Just as long as a single red heathen was near.

CONSTERNATION
Now behold what they did when the first Kickapoo
From behind a huge tree, like a bear, sprang in view:
They really did nothing, but howl with alarm,
As he gobbled them under each brawny big arm.

Who so foolishly ran from their mothers and dads-
Don't believe all you read, is the moral that's told,
And remember, "what glitters zs not always gold;"
