A party of Ocala sports visited the Red 7 Bevel country, a few days since, and pro- ceeded to kill all game that came in their way, regardless of our game laws, aud concluded their hunt by carrying away a dog belonging to Mr. Peterson. Here is what Peter Cooper, who died worth many millions, said of a newspa- per: "In all towns where a newspaper is published every man should advertise in it, if nothing more than a card stating his name and business he is in. It not only pays the advertiser, but it lets the people at a distance know that the town in which you reside is a prosperous one of business men. As the seed is sown so the seed recompenses. Never pull down your sign while you expect to do busi- ness."-National Hotel Reporter. Not Built That Way. Our race for the postoffice will not weigh a feather's weight in swaying us to the right or to the left of what we con- ceive to be the plain path of duty in the present great crisis, of the Democratic party. Mitchell, Commis- sioner Wombwell and sundry other of- fiaials, individuals and newspapers in Florida that are not "in accord" with Arthur C. Jackson and the Times-Union crowd, has at last materialized. The T.-U. of Sunday last devoted sev. eral columns to the publication of Jack- son's wail, containing absolutely noth- iog in the shape of fact that had not al- ready been published in the Tallahas- seean, and not one single atom of proof in refutation of the charges preferred against him. His own testimony, consisting of the most vehement abuse of everybody con- nected with his exposure and disgrace, and his frantic denials of guilt, go for nothing, for the simple reason that no- body who knows him (and who does not?) believes a word he utters. The documents on which he bases his pretended defense mainly consist of his own writings and those of Gay Metcalf, of the JunoSun, who'has stuck to Jack- son with a-devotion worthy of a better cause. In his desperation this wretched crea- turef following the example of the Times-Union, adopts the swashbuckler style of that Falstaffian warrior, and de- clares war upon "the men and measures that now prostitute the faitst state on earth," and promises, "by the glace of ,And," I the imnnion wrxtchfl. in-tr n(e, F OKRECLOSUIRE AND I N.T NCTION. Gea'l Pas$'r AN r- ' I' MAKING' A NAME. . ..... thing About Title@ or Honor Among the Europeans. In the old world distinguished men are often honored, or supposably- honored, by being given titles of nobility; but it sometimes happens that the recipient of the honor does not value it highly. Recently the famous. Italian musical composer, Giuseppe Verdi, whoso name in English, would be plain Joseph Green, read in the papers that he had been "created" marquis of Busseto. The composer literally leaped for his pen, and wroto the following note to he minister of public instruction: "I read in the Perseveranza that I have been appointed a marquis. I beg you to do everything in your power to prevent this appointment from taking ., effect. I may be remembered here- after; but I shall be remembered inuce more if I am not made a marquis." Verdi is said to'have expressed the opinion that, after having spent sixty years in making the name of "Green" illustrious, it would be rather hard luck to fose it for the unknown desig- nation of the marquis of Busseto. Not long ago Pruiw 1 Bismarck, who might eabisWav6 pased for the most famous matt? in Eurdpev was 4ismisse4 from power by tN .ing wmperoy iam. -.At t%'ame time he was ere- ated Laueuburg. , i ot, like Vi, retse the hohr, "ltZaccepted It with the sarcas- t htf arOk that the title given hin by thvpeporo woiil; e "a handy thing fr him to have .when he wanted to travel incognito." 'One great European statesman, Mr. Gladstone, might have been an earl or a marquis long ago if he had not pre- ferred to remain a "Mr." His fame, the world acknowledges, would be less if he had exchanged his uhap as his great rival Disraeli did, for .a title,of nobility. t ','3 Really to have a great:hagme, .one must have mad6 it himself, To inherit such, a name is a good thing,' but to make it is mugc better. In Japan almost everyone, says the Waverly Magazine, carries a lantern. By day and night. it is dangling at his Sbelt. It resembles a thin, flat box. Each end of the box is fastened to a sort of paper, which, lying in folds, forms, when drawn out: a lantern. The Japanese usually carries also atiny wooden box, shaped like a cylinder, to hold his candle. A smallmedicin-e chest/,with half a dozen 'little boxes, each containing a small portion oi medicine, a fan, a pipe and a short sword, all form part of the outfit. The belt of a Japanese is, therefore, a very important parrt of hi dress. His slippers consist of a sole with a worsted thread at the upper end, through whioh the great to6 isitKrfiSt to keep the sapper on. His pillow/is a framework of 'halebone, or'some8 su'ih substance, into which the back of the6 neck'near the head fits; This Is to keep his knot of hair in order, for he 0des not hlve his hair dressed evrh day; and, therefore, is obliged'tdftakr care of the piece, which is greased and bound into a cue, the rest of the head being closely shaven. The rich Japanese send their cbhil dren to school in inferior garments, Tri or4er that the children of the poor iay not be, ashamed to wear theit shabby clothes. Soldiers of the Sultan. Gen.
