Mitchell fight on 23 Jan 1894. George E Lovell was aptd Capt 23 March 1896; JC West IstLt
"& JC Halll 2nd Lt on 26 July 1894. Encampment was held at Canp Henderson, Talla in 1895,
at Camp Bloxham, Jax in 1896- and again at Camp Henderson in 1897. JR Cunningham succeeded
Hall as 2ndLt 30 Oct 1897. Upon the advent of the Span Anerican War, all unit of the org
militia were ordered to Tampa on 12 March 1898 after volunteering for service; the IstFlaVol
- Regt was formed from existing units, and Co B was reorganized and redesig Co B 1st Fla Vol Rgt
and mustered into federal service, under Capt Geo E LovellU 1st Lt Joseph C West & 2ndLt
Ji Joseph R Cunningham. Co B served in Alabama and Florida and was mustered out 27 January 1899.
After the war Co B was reorganized in Leesburg as Co B 2nd Fla Inf Regt in 1899, and
.served continuously until its disbandment 8 Sept 1912. On 26 May 1906, a platoon of Co B
was formed in Brooksville, and Co B in Leesburg was redesig Co B (less 1 Platoon) 2ndFlalnf.
The platoon was disbanded on 29 Feb 1908; and Co B returned to its original designation.
The unit attended encampment in 1903-Jax; 1904-Manannas Maneuvers, Va; 1905-Orlando; 1906-
StateCampGrounds; 1907-JointCoastDefExs,Tampa-1908-same; 1909-StateCampGrounds,Jax; 1910-
Chicamaugua Maneuvers; 1911-12-StCpGrounds. Officers during this period were
Captains: FCW Kramer 31 Oct 99; Duke Hopson, Sr. 2 Jan 07; HF Davis 12 Feb 10; JA Crenshaw

Riflemen. On 8 June 1887, a state law was passed creating 3 Sep Battalions of ST, this

The unit attended encampment at Camp Dunn, Ocala in 1893; Tampa 1894; Canp Henderson Talla

Fla Inf Regt was reorganized and brought to full strength and having received the-'cal]
Sof the Pres of .US on 21 June 1916 was mustered into active Federal Service for duty or
the Mexican Border in the early part of the July 1916. The Regiment returned to State
Control on 17 March 17 and served the state until its muster into Federal Service on
S5 August 1917 for WWI. The regiment was sent ot Camp Wheeler Ga, where it was re-
"designated the 124th Inf Regt, 31st Inf Div (Dixie Division) and was sent io France,
where it was broken up and its troops used as replacements in the AEF. Its members
served honorably, and in many cases, heriocally, throughout the WAr. .

the State of Florida and the U.S. government.
.-In 1898 it was called into Federal service and sent to Tampa, Florida, where it stayed -L
for the duration of the Spanish-American War. In 1916 the Company, then known as Company
C, 2nd Fla NG, was mustered into Federal service and went to the Mexican border, a here
served with credit for approximately nine months... Upon returning to Florida in
1917 it was mustered out of Federal service and remained in Orlando a very few months
whe n 8 ugust 1917 it was mustered back into Federal service. a Ind September t1917 it d as
sent to Camp Wheeler, Macon, G. -where it became a part of the 31st (Dixie) Division.- y
In October 1919 it arrived in France when the members of the Company first learned at
ions, France that it as well as its division had been ordered to be broken up and
ie into replacements. The officers and men were sent to various combat divisions at
the front as replacements. Although it never served as a Company at the front its
personnel served with other Companies and gegiments with disti ciozin while uinider 9fire1.7
.In 1921 the Company was reorganized and finally cm n Compar n K, 12sth Inf. 31st (Dixie) :
Division with its War time Commander, Preston Ayers in command. The company saw service :.
the 1926 and 1928 hurricanes which did so mqch damage to-South~Floidai
ring more than 50 years of continuous existence of Co K & its predecessors, -many------
outstanding and prominent citizens of Orlando and Orange county served officers &
Listed men, -rendering both State and Federal -service.--

Orlando's unit of the State militia, and the National Guard, has had the good fortune
to furnish three Regimental Commanders, they being Col. Bradahaw, Col. Schuler and the i
present Regimental Commander, Col. Preston Ayers. Col. Ayers, was the Company commander
during the World War I, and materially added in the reorganization of the company in 1921,
when it was designated as Company K and when he again became the Company Commander.
Since that time he commanded the regiment.

The 106th Quartermaster Regt was organized in January 1924 as the 31mt Div Quartermas
ter Train, in the NG of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Lousianna. Gq was org 13
June 1924 as the Quartermaster Section Hq 31st Div at ST AUGUSTINE, under Col Jacob
Spengler, andon 19 May 1936 was redesignated Hq 106th q4 Regt. The 220th Motor Trans.
pprt Co, FNG was redesig Co C 2nd Bn l06th .q Regt the same date; and on 21 May 36
Hq 2nd Bn 106th QM Regt was organized in Talla. The Florida units attended the annual:
encampments with the 124th Inf Regt, due to the dispersion of its units, the 0 th QM
Regt was never assembled until it participated inthe third Army Maneuvers in DeSoto
National Prk Mississippi in 1938 during which maneuvers, the Reg% performed the norma
functions of Supply and Transportation for the 31st Div. For these services it re-
ceived the commendation of the Division Commander, Brig Gen LF Guerre. Col Jacob, :
Spengler was in command of the Regiment from its organization; Capt John Heilich
served as Adj; Major Mark W. Lance, later Adj Gen of Fla, commanded the 2nd Bny Ist L-
Julian F. Pfaff served as Adj of the 2nd Bn.
Hq 106th QM Regt was mobilized into active federal service for WWII on 25 Nvo 1940
with other elements of the 31st Div. and trained intensively in the southern states;
In Feb 1942 the 106th QM Regt was redesig 106th QM Bn; later in 1942 redesig 31 Q
and served thruout the war with the 31st. Florida Officers serving with the Regt.wheb
it was inducted into Fed Service were Col Spengler, Major Lance, Capt Heilich, 1st Lt
John W. Snyder, 1st Lt Joseph Ingram, 1st Lt Julian Pfaff and 2nd Lts Robert Mizelle

Snd Lt JP Lamb; the 1st Fla Regt was ordered into federal service 5 August 1917- sent to
Camp Wheeler GA where it was disbanded and men served throut W2I in other federal units.
After WWI, Co E was reorganized in Live Cak as the 3rd Separate Co of Inf, FNG on 11
SFeb 1920 under Capt Yandell 0 Brown. .It was redesig Co 7 Ist f 'a on 3 Jan 1921; Capt Bernard
L Rhodes-wasa&ptd CC 18 June 1921; the unit was redesign E 154th nr on 7 Jec 1921;
Robert G. White aptd CO 26 Feb 23; and unit again redesign E. 12lthinf on 2t May 192h. The
"unit served cn active state duty in 1929-30 for the Mediterranean ruit ily '.,uarantine-
"Mahone Rees was aptd Capt 29 Jan 35. In 1940 C- E won the National (State) Trophy for
Riflery, and was mobilized into active federal service for JWII under Capt Rees, lstLt
FM Greene, Jr, IstLt Paul 0 Langford, IstLt Samuel.J. White, and 2ndLts Louis Wadsworth,
Albert E Durell, Benjamin C Price and LeRoy F. Ray. beforee ceing inducted this unit won
Sthe Remington Trophy for Riflery twice-)- (Also see historic listing in jacket).
During WTII the unit trained intensively with the 124th Inf (31stInfDiv) in southern
camps, and served on New Guinea, Eorotai Island, Luzon & Mala in the Philippines. The
124th Inf is entitled to battle credits for participation in the Southern Phillippines &
New Guinea Campaigns, and the 2ndBn was cited for outstanding performance of duty in action
Against the enemy on Mindanao, PI, and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for its
action.
Co E was reorganized in LiveCak after WiII as HoHaColstBn 124thInf on 8 Oct 19L6; under

Daytona

The Halifax Rifles existed early in the 1880's in Daytona but no official records exist.
Lt Charles M Bingham was aptd IstLt on 22 Mar 1888-and was promoted to Capt on 9 July 1809.
-Upon the passage of a state law in 1893 organizing the militia of Florida into 5 Separate-
Battalions, this unit was designated Co D 4thSepBn (Halifax Rifles)* Capt JS Herbert and ..--
--IstLtJD Maley were aptd on 15 May 1893 and 2ndLt WH Carter is listed as having been aptd

-The battalion attended encampment at Camp Dunn, Ocala in 1893; Palatka in 1891; and Camp
"H niaerson Tallahassee in 1895. Charles M Bingham was aptd IstLt 26 April 1896, and Captain
--Dec 1896. -W Carter was promoted to IstLt, & JB Parkinson aptd 2ndLt s/date. The unit--"
attended encampment atCamp Bloxham, Jacksonville in 1896; and on 4 March 1897 the unit _

-E M Veeks -was -aptd -2ndLt -10 May -1898.--The -unit attended encmapment at Camp-Bloxham-Jax in-
:-1897 and upon the advent of the Spanish-American War in 1898 was ordered with all Florida---

:-was disbanded on 23 May 1898- and its members mustered into federal service as part of the

At the close of the Spanish American war Co D was reorganized and redesignated Co K 2ndFlalnf

Co K 2ndFlaInf was disbanded in Daytona on 2 December 1913.
In 1919, after tthe first world war, the 1+SpCn TnnfFXIr was organized in Daytona. This unit
won the Taliferro Trophy in 1920; & again in 1922,and in 1924 won the Canopus Cup for the
Best Drilled Unit the the regiment. The unit went thru a series of redesignations: in 1921
redesig Co A IstInf; A l15thInf; & in 1924- A 124hInf. Officers in command during this time
were Captain Chester H Wilson 15 Oct 1919; WS Snead 13 Nov 1919; HG Pollitz 1 June 21;
HC Dohm 13 Nov 21. The unit was disbanded in Daytona 9 June 1926..
(1 Jul 29)
In 1929 Battery D 265th CA Bn (HD) was organized/at aytona. It was redesignated D 265th
CA Regt (HD) 20 Nov 1929; and redesignated Battery C and assigned to the IstBn 1 Jan 1930.
The unit served on active state duty in aid of civil authorities during mob violence at
Daytona 4 Dec 1933; Guarded President of US on 21 March 1936; and aided civil authorities
again on 1 Jan 1937. The unit won the CNGB Trophy for Indoor Rifle Matches (P) in 1936.
The unit was redesignated Btry D 265thCA 15 April 1940. Officers in command during this
period were: Captain JO McNamara 1 Jul 29; Heber Couchman 19 May 33; WK Ballough 2 Jul 37;
Felix VB Couch 1 Oct 40... Battery D inducted into active federal service for WWII on
6 Jan 1941. Unit served with Regt, trained extensively in US and served in Alaska.
Upon the reorganization of the FNG after WWII, Btry D was reorganized and redesignated
Btry D 692nd AAA AW Bn on 20 Sept 1948; reorg and redesig again on 1 Feb 19l9 as Btry D
ihfth AAA AW Bn and allocated to the 48thInfDiv. (See card: Btry D l18th for current history
