Abstract:
The photo is from a "best beard" contest held for Gainesville's centennial celebration in 1953. The tall man in white, with the hat, is Flake Parker, former owner of Parker's Office Supplies, a longtime downtown business. He grew the beard, won the contest, shaved off the beard, and never grew one again.
