My Dear Wife

The Roanoke leaves today for New York and also the
no letters from New York by either of these
steamers and conclude they were left by some cause We had
unfavorable weather here for some time had a long time
of dry weather and for three days had rains and within the
last week I hear of much sickness just now and several
deaths from Diptheria and is very wari at present Thermometer
not lower than 80 and frequently 90 in the shade, I am now
boarding at 117 Calle de Sol with Mr. Riley. Walter is there
also- I have been in Havana all this week but go to
this P.M. Fred is fat as a bear and looks very nuch Spanish -
I expect in a few days to go to Puerto in the interior
of the Eastern section of the Island to make proposals for
Gas Works I don't think Eddie better come out this spring -
but to wait and be here in Dec and Jan. then there is no
risk comparatively Write by next steamer and tell the
children that I am under many obligations to them for their
letters and presents and hope in good time to repay them
amply remember me to all and write often
Yours

B. S. Hile
