New York Aug 21/61

Dear Ella,

This morning I view your favor of the 19th and also
your Mothers with it About the state room it was
"Hopkins" choice and I was aware that it was not very
pleasantly located Am glad to hear you arrived safely
at your destination and hope you all will enjoy your
stay in that pleasant place --

Joanna came up this morning and I gave her a lot of
tomatoes they are all well and Mrs. S. thinks some of
going up They had not heard from any of you We are
having warm and pleasant weather and our grass plat
looks beautiful the whole of it is green and fresh since
it has not been tread on Tell Mother I received a Telegraph
despatch from Middleton of the death of Edwin M.
Johnston formerly Book Keeper here he died very suddenly
as a day or two since he wrote down to New York -

It has been very lively here within a few days past
in Movements of Troops Some 8 Regements have left I
expect to go into Canada and out West about the 10th of
S eptember Mr. Green will not go West as he contemplated -
Remember me to Cous Edwin Hile and family tell him when
you meet him that when he was in N.Y. last I expected he*
would have stayed overnight with us but he did not -

Love to Mother and Eddie an Flossie also to all our
cous. in darlington Co. -
