Thieves break into



Glades Day School


Finding shattered window,
school officials report
missing computers

School officials reporting to work this week at
Glades Day School found a window to one of the
classrooms broken. Inside the classroom, ceil
ing tiles were on the ground, leading to adjoin
ing rooms, one after another, all the way to the
yearbook staff room where 14 computers were
missing.
On Tuesday morning, students looked up at
holes in their classroom ceilings, through which
thieves maneuvered like cat burglars on their way
to the computer room. Given that they avoided
entry from the door to the room itself, and that
it appeared they made a beeline to the yearbook
staff room, it seems too well thought out to be
your average burglar.
"It kind of hurt my feelings," said Jamie
Marineau, one of two yearbook faculty sponsors,
who hated even having to consider the possibil
ity that a student of the school's may have been
responsible. "Someone had to know where the
classroom was," she said.
Dr. Robert Egley, Glades Day's head of schools,
echoed her sentiments in more precise terms.
"We feel that we've been violated," said Dr.
Egley. "It hurts to know people would come into
our building and take those educational tools

Florida Agricultural Hall



of Fame Honors local


The Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame, a non
profit organization devoted to preserving the his
tory of Florida agriculture, was created in 1980.
Men and women who have made outstanding
contributions to Florida agriculture are inducted
annually during a ceremony held each February
at the Florida State Fair in Tampa.
This year's ceremony will highlight the work
of several men, including Belle Glade's own Dr.
Joseph Orsenigo.

Joseph Orsenigo
Dr. Joseph Orsenigo was a well-known re
search scientist and professor of plant physiol
ogy at the University of Florida's Everglades Re
search and Education Center. From 1957 to 1975,
he headed up the center's research program in
weed science, developing environmentally safe
herbicide programs for sugarcane and vegetable
crops.
Orsenigo was born in 1922 in Berryville, New
York. He studied soil science and agronomy at
Cornell University, but his education was inter
rupted by World War II.
He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in
Europe. He distinguished himself on the battle
field, and in 1945 he was awarded the Bronze Star
for heroic actions during combat. r, i.i .: dis
charged from the Army in 1946, he resumed his
studies at Cornell, earning a doctorate in 1953.
Following graduation, he gained international
experience as an agricultural researcher in Ven
ezuela and Costa Rica. He was fluent in Spanish
and later helped develop national pesticide laws
for Costa Rica through USAID.
This set of laws greatly improved the safety of
Costa Rican food products and the health of the
local environment.
Orsenigo returned to the United States in 1958


after accepting a position as a horticulturist at
the Everglades Research and Education Center
in Belle Glade, Florida. At the Everglades REC he
was given full responsibility for planning and con
ducting weed control research. He worked to de
velop appropriate, environmentally safe herbicide
application and use programs for sugarcane and
vegetable crops.
His efforts in the area of weed control signifi
cantly improved sugarcane production efficiency
and helped farmers in the Everglades Agricultural
Area make the transition from raising cattle to
growing vegetable crops.
Orsenigo retired from the University of Flor
ida with emeritus status in 1975. He then went
to work for the Florida Sugar Cane League, a
non profit trade association of Florida sugarcane
growers and processors, as its vice president for
research. In this capacity, Orensigo was instru
mental in transforming the state's sugar industry
into a modern mechanized agribusiness.
For more ii i 11 1i. . he ran the Cooperative
Sugarcane Variety Development Program, a joint
project of the USDA, the University of Florida, and
the Sugar Cane League.
He participated in the development of eight
varieties of sugarcane and oversaw the distri
bution of at least 15 other varieties released for
commercial production in Florida. He also helped
the sugar industry self regulate and develop best
management practices to protect air and water
quality.
Orsenigo assumed important leadership roles
in a number of professional organizations.
He served as president of the Southern Weed
Science Society, vice president of the Vegetable
Section of the Florida Agricultural Society, and

The Pumpkin Patch
The Pumpkin Patch is coming in October. Take
a look at the pumpkins as you drive by the Com-
munity United Church in Belle Glade.
From Oct. 11 to Oct. 29, school children will
begin their field trips to the Pumpkin Patch.
They will listen to pumpkin facts and stories
read by community volunteers, experience pump
kin music with Janice Fliehs, and enjoy fun and
games in the patch itself.
On Oct. 16, there will be a Great Community
Flea Market in Jameson Hall from 8 a.m. to 12
p.m.
Join in on the fun and bring crafts, baked
goods, new, and pre-owned items to sell.

Boating Regatta
The Gator Classic High Performance Boating
Regatta will be in Pahokee this year on October
23 and 24. It will be held on Lake Okeechobee,
launching out of the Pahokee Marina. This will be
great for the community as they expect over 1,000
people to attend each day. Cost is $15 for anyone
over 12; 12 and under are free; $5 parking. There
will be a special rate for Pahokee residents that
show ID. Please pass this along via email to any
one so we can get the word out.

God's Playbook for
Life

First United Methodist Church
On the playing field of life, God's
team and the Devil's team engage in
fierce competition, each one trying
to move in directions the other one
doesn't want to go, each one trying
to score touchdowns.
God has given us a three instruc
tion team playbook for life in this
game. Follow it, and we are sure to
score.
First, leave the bleachers and
benches and get in the game. Dis
ciples of Jesus are not spectators in
the stands.
Disciples of Jesus do not sit on
the bench or park in the pews. Dis-
ciples of Jesus are players on the
field. As players in this game we are
important. So is how we play the
game. What each of us contributes
can help move the team forward to
the goal of our high calling.
Second, remember that the hud
die is not the game. Huddles aren't
bad. We need huddles to make sure
everyone is on the same page and
all signals are clear.
Even Jesus traveled and huddled
with a "team." In any contest, victo
ry is gained through a combination
of strength, skill, and good timing.
Good timing comes from knowing
when to huddle, and when to break
and run a play.
Christian life uses the huddle as
a place to check in, keep signals
straight, and confirm the play. But
the game is not in the huddle. In fact,
spend too long discussing things in
the huddle and we will be penalized
for delay of game.
We will find ourselves moving
the wrong way down the field. We
huddle up on Sunday morning in or
der to hike out into a Monday world.
That's where the play action takes
place.
Third, we need to always keep
the ball in play. Whatever happens,
don't drop the ball!
Even when our mission is tack
led by opponents or s. i ,. i. 1i .., i.
nations beyond our control, we can
keep the gospel in 1, i i. !,i, i ,;-. -: it

to others alongside us or by passing
it to those in front. Sometimes even
a "Hail Mary" might be in order, but
whatever happens, keep the ball in
play. The lions may be licking their
chops. Nero may be fiddling while
Rome burns. But the lion is not the
ultimate power and the Neros of our
world do not have the final word.
God does.
We play this game of life under
the providence and protection and
direction of the hand of God. We
score by keeping on keeping on for
Him!

Big Or Small

Years back, J. B. Phillips wrote
Your God is Too Small, character
izing the ways that people see God.
A loving parent? The Pale Galilean?
Someone who wanted to take away
everything that is illegal-immoral
fattening? He concluded his book by
noting that God may be all or more
of these things; and our image of
God may need to grow.
There are many ideas of God:
the "absentee landlord" who is dis
tant but sticks His eternal two cents
and direction into the world every
now and again.
God may be seen at the quint
essential judge; coming down on


everything and everybody because
"you sinned!" and God'll .-. i. I, i
Perhaps God is the one who goes
around saying "You've got it all
wrong!" and doesn't offer much
help in getting it right, a sort of ce
lestial film critic of the film of life.
God has also been seen as helpful,
forgiving, loving, wise, kind, gener
ous -better definition.
Early on, we find God's presence
in His world and revelation about
himself. Among the first revela
tions is the story of Abraham; God
is unhappy with Sodom (Genesis
18:16ff).
God is the angry judge, but Abra
ham intervenes when God is going
to destroy the city. Maybe there are
some righteous people there, and
Abraham reminds God, "That's not
your nature to do such a thing (v.
25)."
God concedes and apparently He
is not the harsh judge after all. When
the story goes on, God relents again,
and again; judgment is changed for
mercy and love for His beings.
Nor is He the absentee landlord;
He's with His people and in the
midst of their lives, whether good or
bad in His eyes. Is God one who says
-,; .. i. ..._: it wrong" but gives no
direction getting it right? No, guid
ance will come later when He will
give direction in the form of Laws or
the sending of a Savior.
The Laws will serve as guides;
not ways of setting up impossible
standards of perfection or ways
of waiting to entrap
people. The God who
decides early on to
spare His people, even
when they're at their
worst, is then capable
of great forgiveness.
When Sodom is finally
destroyed, there are


still those who are res
cued.
It is in the realize
tion of His nature as
helpful, forgiving, lov
ing, kind and generous
that every now and
again someone will
realize God is really an
awesome God indeed!

Around The Lake: Weekly Football Wrap Up

Anyone who bought a ticket to last week's
Glades Day blowout also bought a ticket to the
"Kelvin Taylor Show." The sophomore running
back scored four touchdowns; including a 60
yard rush, a 13-yard rush, a 93-yard rush, and a
90-yard kick return.
"I just go out and win games. I play for the
team," stated Taylor after the game. "We prac
ticed hard and played well; and we have a great
(offensive) line."
The 334 overall rushing yards for Glades
Day was all the proof he needed, as the Gators
dominated Summit Christian on the ground. The
defense was no exception to their great perform
mance; as they held the Saints to 102 total yards
of offense.
The first six Summit Christian drives resulted
in either an interception within the first three
downs or a punt on fourth. It wasn't until their
seventh drive, late in the second quarter, that
the Saints were able to score their one and only
touchdown.
Two of the Gators' touchdowns came on
special teams; including the 90-yard kick return
by Taylor, and also an 80-yard kick return by J.T.
Thornton.
The win over the Saints means the Gators
only need two more district wins to make it to the
post-season.
Glades Day suffered a loss in the second week
of the season to their "unspoken" rival Jupiter
Christian.
The Gators lost the same game last year, but
got another shot at them in the second round of
the playoffs; where they won 45-44 in a nail-biter.
Coach Walker and his Gators plan on follow
ing that same route this year, but for that to hap
pen, they'll need to continue to take it one step at
a time; starting with their tougher opponent this
week, Belen Jesuit at home.

Glades Central
Very few teams are eager to play the Raiders.
No team is eager to play the Raiders on home
coming.
Glades Central, as usual, blew out their op
ponent Boca Raton last week, 40-7. The blowout
was led by Senior quarterback Jamarious Row
ley; who was 11 of 17 for 231 yards and 3 touch
downs.


The majority of the scoring was done in the
second quarter: a 7-yard pass to Jamie Wilson, a
43-yard pass to Kevin Benjamin, a 1-yard rush by
Aaron Baker, and a 42 yard interception return by
Jatavis Brown that was seemingly handed to him
by Bobcats' receiver Keith Byars.
Boca's quarterback Kevin Anderson hit Byars
on the third down pass, across the middle of the
field, which would've given them a first down;
but instead, the inability to gain control of the ball
resulted in a "handoff" to Brown, whose touch
down seemingly ended the game late in the first
half.
The Bobcats' only touchdown came in the
fourth quarter after the Raiders' lead started mak
ing them feel "comfortable" and the inability to
close out the game left the final score at 40-7
rather than a shutout.
Outside the lines, a halftime ceremony was
held to retire the number of New England Patri
ot's running back Fred Taylor. The injured reserve
running back has been one of the most successful
NFL players to come out of Glades Central High. A
humble Taylor stated that he never expected the
ceremony; especially with all of the talent that the
Raiders produce each year.
Fred Taylor (no. 21) joins the only other two
players in G.C. history to be awarded with this
honor: head coach Jessie Hester (no. 42) and


Jimmy Spencer (no. 12).
Coach Hester and his Raiders have run through
every .i i"... ii .' played this season up un
til this point; and plan to do so once again this
Friday against Dillard.

Pahokee
For the fourth week in a row, penalties and the
inability to make plays have plagued the Blue Dev-
ils, and ultimately have led to their 4-loss streak.
As usual, when teams start losing in the area,
the coach ends up on the hot-seat; and despite
having championships under his belt, and work
ing with an inexperienced team Coach Thomp
son has been no exception.
Pahokee was held scoreless until a 90 yard
interception return in the third quarter; but 111
yards worth of penalties didn't make things any
better.
While the Blue Devils had more passing yards
than American Heritage (98 to 89), their 64 rush
ing yards couldn't hold up against American Heri
tage's 456.
The next few games for Pahokee couldn't be
more important; not only to the players and the
fans, but to the coaching staff as well. If Coach
Thompson and his staff are looking to relieve
some of the tension surrounding them, they're
going to need to have a huge game against Pine


Crest this Friday.

Clewiston
Speaking of coaches on the hot-seat, the staff
at Clewiston was at the top of the list; at least
until last Friday. The Tigers opened up their sea
son exactly the way they didn't want to. With the
talent and drive all there for Clewiston, mistakes
and miscommunications have held them back
and brought a lot of pressure on the program as
a whole.
Prior to last week's game, many fans have
been questioning the future of the program. What
used to be known as a powerhouse at Clewiston
has seemingly lost its reputation. It's unarguable
that the past few years in Clewiston have not
gone down how many fans would've liked to
have seen; and this year's 0-5 start has brought
more attention to it than ever before.
Throughout the past few weeks the Tigers
have had to fight through losses, fan-pressure,
quitting players, and even themselves. Needless
to say, tension is high in Clewiston.
But after last week's blowout, the team and
staff may have just bought themselves a little
more time.
Quarterback Andre Rios threw 7-of 11 for 142
yards and three touchdowns; excluding the 17
yard run in the first quarter. Rios also ran for 67
yards on 5 attempts, averaging 13.4 yards per car
ry; on the Tiger's way to a 60-0 blowout/shutout
over Gateway Charter. The Tigers scored through
nearly every medium possible, including: three
passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns,
a field goal, a punt return, a safety, and a fumble
recovery in the endzone.
Clewiston's offense put up a total of 289 yards:
142 through the air and 147 on the ground. The
shutdown defense only allowed Gateway Charter
56 total yards of offense.
The district win couldn't have come at a more
needed time for the Tigers.
After suffering through all of the on the field,
as well as off the field confusion, there's finally
some hope in the minds of the Clewiston Tigers.
For the team, the ability to produce another
big time win next week will help them build up
some momentum for the rest of the season.
For some of the staff, job security lies on the
result of the next few weeks. If Coach Roth can
help his team put up another win, he may be able
to silence some of his doubters; but if he doesn't,
he'll be under more pressure than ever before.

Future Farmers of America: Valerie McKee


Valerie McKee, current State Secretary of the
Future Farmers of America, believes farming is in
her blood. She spoke recently at the Belle Glade
Rotary Club and told them her story.
Growing up in Okeechobee as a child, Valerie
McKee explained that she grew up surrounded by
cows and citrus groves, but didn't have an agri
cultural background. That all changed after she
joined FFA in the sixth grade to show a hog. "I
became more interested in agriculture ad FFA ad I
asked my parents, 'Why do I like this so much?"'
Her parents, Pastor Cary and Fran McKee,
told her, "It's in your blood." She learned that
her great, great grandfather on her mother's side
farmed with Arthur Wells, one of the first farm
ers in the Glades. Her great grandfather on her fa
their's side worked for A Duda & Sons for 1 ,., II..
and her grandfather worked for U.S. Sugar and
South Bay Growers and was also an FFA member


in the late 1950s. Her grandparents are Jerry and
Pat McKee of Belle Glade.
Valarie, who attended Okeechobee High
School, graduated Valedictorian of her class. She
participated in basketball, flag football, and girl's
weightlifting during her time in school. She was
also very active in FFA in middle and high school,
and says that when she was not studying for a
test, she was studying for her next FFA contest.
She participated in speaking contests, Parliamen
tary Procedure, Land Evaluations, Citrus Judging,
Ornamental Horticulture Demonstrations, and,
her personal favorite, Meat Judging.
In 2008, Valerie was on the State FFA Meat
Evaluations Team and had the State High Indi
vidual score. She went on to compete with her
team at the national level during the National FFA
Conventions, where they placed 12th as a team.
Valerie was 13th in the nation individually.


Among other things, Valerie's interests include
attending her church, More 2 Life Ministries in
Okeechobee where her father is the pastor, hunt
ing and saltwater fishing with her dad, and scuba
diving with her grandparents.
She hopes to attend the University of Florida
in the fall of 2011 after she finishes serving as the
State FFA Secretary. There, she plans to major in
Ag Communications with a minor in Leadership.
She wants to work for Florida FFA and the Na
tional FFA during college by presenting leadership
conferences to students.
"I hope to one day become a Christian author
and speaker, but today, I'm excited to be speaking
to others on the future of Florida agriculture and
the FFAs part in developing future leaders and ag
riculturalists," she said.

"International Walk to School Day" at
Gove Elementary had over 900 students, 20
community volunteers plus teachers and
staff to encourage our students. The theme
this year was Walk to School Promoting
Your favorite Wellness Slogan."
The Gove Wellness Student Council lead
the way with all 15 members carrying signs
with their slogans: "Get your 8 hours of
Sleep, Eat 5 a Day and the "American Heart
Association" cheer You can have a healthy
Heart, It's as easy as 1,2,3! Eat healthy stuff,
move around enough and live tobacco free!
The Palm Beach Fire Rescue had fire-
men giving high fives and stopping traffic for
students to make their way (from the East
as the West) was lead by Palm Beach Sher-
iff's team of Lee and Mark Sutterfield who
assisted "walk leaders" Mickey Pender and
Principal Anne Turner to direct students off
the bus. Mr. Eddie Rhodes, waited at Mace

Park entrance to encourage the students to
make healthy choices. The Fine Arts team
and many teachers plus staff and school
police were fantastic motivators. Seeing and
hearing the smiles and glees from students
was enough to classify this event as a great
success for the Wellness Team and Student
Council who sponsored this event.
At the end of their trek, all of the students
had a free breakfast with all healthy choic-
es from our cafeteria staff. This event was
a student- lead project for the the Alliance
for a Healthier Generation "Healthy Schools
Program" and the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60!.
We appreciate your support for our Glades
Community Wellness Events. Below are
some dates to save for December's events.
Spread the word for anyone with 10 inch-
es or longer of hair that they can give for a
good cause plus get a free haircut. "Locks of
Love" with Support from Studio Salon.

survivor. Gove Elementary, Lakeside Medi-

Society of Sugar Cane Technologists.
He was widely recognized for his contribu
tions to science and agriculture.
In 1972 he won a Research Award from the
Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association, and an
Agri Industrial Award from the Belle Glade Cham-
ber of Commerce.
He received a lifetime achievement award
from the Florida Weed Science Society, and a
Presidential Gold Medal from the Florida State
Horticultural Society.


He was named a Fellow of the American As
sociation for the Advancement of Science.
Orsenigo was a vital part of the Belle Glade
community and lived there until the end of his
life. He was director of the Lake Okeechobee
Audubon Society, worked with the Boy Scouts,
sat on the local school board, and served as cura
tor and director of the Lawrence E. Will Museum,
a museum dedicated to preserving the history of
South Florida.
He was also an avid hunter, outdoorsman,
and nature photographer. Dr. Orsenigo died in
2009. He is survived by his wife Mary, two sons,
and four grandchildren.

Seniors from Across the Area Benefited from The Senior Health Fair


On Thursday, Sept. 30, the City of South Bay,
in concert with Lakeside Medical Center and
the Lake Okeechobee Rural Health Network
(LORHN), hosted a Senior Health Fair focused on
helping Seniors "Relax, Relate and Release". With
over twenty agencies participating, Seniors were
able to access free screenings such as blood pres
sure, glucose, HIV and foot care.
With all services housed in Tanner Park, Se
niors were able to go table to table and get edu
cation on services directed towards people over
55 years of age as well as get one-on-one help in
accessing food stamps, social security, and assis
tance with paying their electric bills.
"Our goal was to offer Seniors from the tri-city


area a one-stop-shop where they could bring their
concerns, place them in our hands, and Relax,
Relate and Release." explained Taneria Mitchell.
"We feel we accomplished that goal for over 150
Seniors."

New Pastor for St. Peter's Lutheran


St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Belle
Glade, is pleased to announce the Installa-
tion of Pastor Benjamin E. Schroeder. Pas-
tor Schroeder graduated from Penn State
in 1989 with a teaching degree. He was
drawn into Christian education and served
as a junior high teacher at St. Mark Lutheran
School in
Cleveland, OH for five years. Sensing


God's pulling to pursue training for the
Pastoral Ministry, he became a student at
Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. He
vicared at St. Paul's in Greenwich, CT and
completed his Master of Divinity degree in
May 2001. Pastor received his first Call to
be the Associate Pastor at Our Redeemer,
Overland, MO.
He served there for eight years, being


responsible for Ministry in the church's pre-
elementary schools, outreach into the com-
munity and visiting the sick and shut-ins of
the parish. He has served the congregation
of St. Peter's as a vacancy
Pastor since the beginning of 2010. He
is especially eager to serve and lead the
precious flock as their Called Pastor and to
have the Spirit open up a new chapter in


their lives as they pursue Christ's kingdom
plans in the Belle Glade community.

Free Workshop to Help Small Businesses in The Glades


Help is on the way for small business owners
and entrepreneurs looking to launch a business
in the Glades.
The Small Business Development Center
(SBDC) and the SBDC's Procurement Technical
Assistance Center (PTAC), based at Palm Beach
State College in Boca Raton, are hosting a free
workshop Oct. 25 to provide a wealth of informa
tion and resources to help businesses thrive.

"We feel a lot of small business advising that
is available today does not acknowledge the true
challenges of small business operation in this


economy. We're going to address those subjects
in a realistic way," said Philip Scruton, certified
business analyst for the SBDC.
"We have felt for a long time that the Belle
Glade community would benefit from a real
world approach to small business counseling.
Even though we're housed in Boca Raton, we're
very much a countywide resource. We hope the
businesses there will stay in contact with us for
one-on-one counseling and other seminars."
The SBDC at Palm Beach State is a member
of the Florida SBDC network, a statewide service
network of 33 centers funded by the U.S. Small


Business Administration. Designated as Florida's

by state statute, the Florida SBDC Network links
the state's education system with community

OPENING DATE: Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm
Hendry County is seeking engineering firms interested in providing profes-
sional services in connection with design services to improve 16th Terrace
from Wheeler Road located in Hendry County to Hines Avenue in Lee
County. Firms submitting must have expertise in construction design servic-
es. Proposers shall have all services available in-house or may propose
multiple firms, which have joined together to provide the various required
disciplinary services in order to offer a complete submission. Individuals
and firms properly registered in the State of Florida are encouraged to sub-
mit their qualifications for consideration. All submttals (see Section IV,
Submission Requirements) received in response to this RFQ will be reviewed
by a County Evaluation Committee. In order to be considered, submittals
must be received by the Board of County Commissioners at the C. E. Hall
Building (Clerk's Office) in the Hendry County Courthouse Complex, 25 E.
Hickpochee Avenue, LaBelle Florida by 2:00 p.m., October 28, 2010, at
which bme all responses to this request will be recorded in the presence of
one or more witnesses.
A copy of the Instructions and RFQ Documents can be obtained from the
Henry County Purchasing Ofice, located at 165 S. Lee Street, Suite A, La-

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD or District) gives
notice of its Agency Action for Water Use Permit 26-00176-W pursuant to
applicabon 090226-7, for the use of surface water from the SFWMD Canal
(C-43) for diversion and impoundment and agricultural irrigation use serving
31798.19 acres (10,058.52 acres of citrus, 10,440.07 acres of pasture, 11,
299.6 acres of sugar cane). The project is known as C-3 Canal Group with
an annual allocation of 56672 million gallons and a total maximum monthly
Conditions. The Project is located Hendry County in
S19,20,29,32/T43S/R31E; S32-34/T43S/R30E; S4-9,16-21,28-33/T44S/
R31E; S1-18,23-27,34-36/T44S/R30E; S13/T44S/R29E; S4-9,16-21,28-33/
T45S/R32E; S1-36/T45S/R31E; S1-4,10-14,23-36/T45S/R30E, generally lo
cated west of County Road 833, South of State Road 80, within the vicinity
of Sears Road, Collins Slough Road, Loop Road, Off Road Grade Road and

(4)A statement of when and how the petitoner received notice of the
SFWMD's decision.
(5) A statement of all disputed issues of material fact. If there are none,
the petiton must so indicate.
(6) A concise statement of the ultimate facts alleged, including the specific
facts the pebtioner contends warrant reversal or modifcabon of the
SFWMD's proposed acbon.
(7) A statement of the specific rules or statutes the petitioner contends
require reversal or modification of the SFWMD's proposed action.
8) If disputed issues of material fact exist, the statement must also in-
dude an explanabon of how the alleged facts relate to the specific rules
or statutes.
(9) A statement of the relief sought by the petitioner, stating precisely the
action the pebtioner wishes the SFWMD to take with respect to the
SFWMD's proposed acbon.
A pebtion that does not dispute the material facts on which the District's
action is based shall state that no such facts are in dispute and otherwise
shall contain the same information as set forth above, as required by Rule
28-106.301, Fla. Admin. Code. Because the administrative hearing process
is designed to formulate final agency action, the filing of a petition means
that the District's final action may be different from the position taken by it
in this notice.
The procedures for pursing mediation are set forth in Section 120.573 Fla.
Stats, and Rules 28-106.111 and 28-106.401-405 Fla. Admin. Code. The
SFWMD is not proposing mediabon for these agency actions under Section
120.573. Fla. Stat. at this time.

The Hendry County Board of County Commissioners proposes to adopt the following by
ordinance. Public hearings on the ordinances will be held by the Hendry County Board
of County Commissioners on October 26, 2010, 5:05 p.m., at the Hendry County

King, 59, is a 5'10" male with black hair and

thieves left behind.
Meanwhile, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's
Office took fingerprints at the scene and urges
anyone with information to contact them. Ac
cording to Dr. Egley, there are several leads that


law enforcement is following up with, but no sus
pects have yet been identified.
One resident of that northeast section of Belle
Glade -an area that even detectives agree has tra
ditionally been less prone to crime -said that the
crimes are getting out of control in her area.
"It is tremendous," said Anita Courson, whose
home is near the school. "You can't go to bed
and know that your vehicle will be there the next
morning."
Detective Sgt. Trevor Cayson with the Palm
Beach County Sheriff's Office hopes that the com-
munity will get involved in a more pro-active way,


reporting any suspicious activity in their neighbor
hoods and generally being good neighbors to one
another.
Referring to the northeast section, he said
there is no evidence of a surge in crime activity
to suggest that there is a problem. Crimes are
happening, but that is true anywhere you go, he
said.
"We may have had one or two cars burglar
ized, but nothing to say there is a crime wave,"
the sergeant noted.
He warns residents to keep their valuables
from plain view in cars and adds that it may be


kids from the same neighborhood targeting oth
ers.
He may be right.
"It happened before," said Dr. Egley of the
break-in. "It just shows that criminals, when they
want to get into a place, they'll get into it."
Ms. Courson hopes for the best.
"The wheels have run off Belle Glade. I don't
know what's going on."
