Santa

Clausis

coming

to town

BY KELLI PEACOCK
News Editor
NORTH POLE Get ready
Calhoun County kids. The
County Record has confirmed
that Santa Claus will be com-
ing to town tonight with a
sleigh full of toys.
"Flu season has not been
kind to Santa," says a
spokesperson from Santa's
Workshop. "However, disap-
pointing millions of children
was not an option. Santa held
his nose and downed all sorts of
yucky tasting medicine to get
well for the trip around the
world. The elves have been
working overtime and have
already started loading the
sleigh. The reindeer have been
munching on corn to bone up
for the task at hand."
All little boys and girls are
reminded to go to bed early ori
Christmas Eve.

Jesus: The most unique

character of all times

BY REV. R.W. WATERMAN
Matthew 22:42
What do you think of
Christ? When I use the
word 'unique' I mean He
stands alone. He has no
equal. He is the King of
Kings and Lord of Lords.
He is the most unique char-
acter of all time because of
the way He was born,
because of the way he 'lived,
worked, and taught. Also
because of the way He died
and because, my friend, He
is the Son of God.
No man was ever born
like Jesus. He did not begin
to live when He was born.
His birth was only an inci-
dent in His life. He always
had lived. Two thousand
years ago He stepped down
from His throne and took
upon. Himself the form of a
baby. For thirty years He
appeared in human flesh.
Then He went back to the
glory He had left and there
He is today.
Jesus Christ, being the
Son of God, thought it not
robbery to be equal with
God: But He made Himself

CALHOUN-LIBERTY HOSPTIAL TO BE

A SMOKE FREE CAMPUS BEGINNING

JANUARY 1, 2009

January 1, 2009, Calhoun-Liberty Hospital will be a tobacco free campus.
This action is a decision of the Hospital Board with the full support and cooperation of the Medical
Staff.

No tobacco products will be allowed to be used anywhere on the grounds of the hospital.

The facility has been smoke free inside for several years. It is now joining a growing trend of
hospitals in Florida and across the nation, to be completely tobacco free on its entire campus,
meaning smoking or the use of tobacco products will not be allowed anywhere on hospital grounds.
This will include all entrances, including the patios on each side of the front entrance and the
Emergency Room "dock" area.

The hospital is asking all patients and visitors to cooperate with this new policy, designed to improve
the health of all. This new policy also applies to all hospital employees.

After conducting smoking cessation classes for its staff, the hospital is now offering these classes to
the public and will'provide cessation medications at no cost to those wishing to attempt to stop
smoking or using other tobacco products.

Individuals wishing to participate in these classes should call 674-5411, ext 209. Businesses
wishing to have employees participate, again, at no cost including the prescription medications
associated with stopping, may also contact us.

Even before I knew
about Christmas being
the time to celebrate the
birth of Baby Jesus, I
knew it was a very special
season. My whole neigh-
borhood, which was made
up of my large extended
family, included my
grandmother, my aunts
and my uncles and my
cousins, all on my
Daddy's side, plus my
Mother and my Daddy
and their eight children in
our own house. We
laughed a lot and all the
children romped and
played together and there
was just a good feeling of
love and fellowship and
well being. As an adult I
now know that all this gai-
ety was due, in part any-
way, to the eggnog that
some of the adults
enjoyed and the five gal-
lon jug of "corn buck", a
kind of beer, that my
uncle brewed just for the
men. Why even the chil-
dren were allowed a tea-
spoon full of peach
brandy, 'made from the
peelings of fruit that had
been canned during the
summer. (Now that was
not one teaspoon full per
day, but one teaspoon full
per Christmas season.)
We children got up
earlier than usual on
Christmas morning, way
before daybreak, and ran
into our "front room"
which also happened to
be our parent's bedroom,
where a big fire Daddy
had built was burning in
the fireplace. Since there
was no electricity in our
house all the light in the
room came from the fire-
place and our parents
could watch us from the
comfort of their bed. We
had no Christmas tree, in
those early years, and
Santa Clause did not
come to see us, but there
on a ladder-backed chair
near the fireplace, in a
small paper bag, would be
"Christmas Present" for.
each child. This present
always contained some-
thing good to eat, some-
thing we did not ordinari-
ly get, like an apple or an
orange or maybe a few
English walnuts or. Brazil
nuts and sometimes a
candy peppermint stick
too. All of this was
promptly eaten so by day-
break, Christmas was
pretty much over for us.

CHRISTMAS
By Frances Wood Price

In more prosperous
years there might have
been a small toy in our
brown paper bag like a
rubber ball or jacks or a
bolo board. Marbles were
a favorite with the boys or
a yo-yo or a small, wood-
en spinning top. We girls
eventually got a box of
paper dolls with sheets of
paper clothes to be
punched out. And once
our little sister got a real
baby doll with eyes that
would open and close and
it could cry too! It was
funny to hear it cry
"Maaa-ma" when it
would get pushed off the
bed during the night.
I said Christmas was
pretty much over by day
break, but there was the
dinner yet to come which
Mother cooked on our
wood burning stove and it
filled the whole house
with warmth and good
smells. Children hung
about in the kitchen till
they could swipe a pinch
of something to stop the
hungry pains that the
good smells had caused
but careful not to stay too
long for fear of being
asked to bring in another
bucket of water from the
hand pump on the porch
or some more stove wood,
from the wood pile.

The fattening hogs had
already been butchered
so there was plenty of
meat. Have you ever tast-
ed a fresh. (not cured)
boiled ham? When the
meat was tender Mother
would take it from the
water and remove the
skin. She would score the
fat layer into a checker-
board pattern and stick a
-whole clove into each
checker. Then the ham
was baked in the oven
until the fat was all brown
and crackly and the clove
flavor permeated the
meat just a bit.
There were fat
sausages flavored with
sage and tender pork loin,
floured and crispy fried
and a delicious stew mad
from pork liver, lungs and
the pancreas with a few
chewy boned, short ribs
thrown in. This stew was
called "hasslet" and was

all spiced up with whole
pods of dried red peppers
and the more the stew
was simmered the thicker
it got and the better it
tasted.
There was plenty of
soft baked sweet potatoes
from the potato bank and
three-legged iron pots of
greens from the garden,
usually collards this time
of year. There was always
a big pot of pig tails and
rice and if we could afford
bananas and crackers,
banana pudding for
dessert. There was pump-
kin pudding, that's a pie
without the crust, and
stacks of sweet potato
pones each separated by
large straws taken from
the sedge broom. These
tasty pones were made
from freshly grated raw
sweet -potatoes, sugar,
butter, eggs and spices.
If the weather was cold
enough to set it there
were bowls of red and
green jell-O. Remember
we had no electricity in
our house and no refriger-
ator to put the jell-0 in.
There were fluffy hot bis-
cuits and all kinds of jel-
lies and preserves and
freshly churned butter
and. thick cream and
sweet ilk and coffee for
the adults and pickled
peaches and cornmeal
hoe-cakes fried golden
brown with cracked
edges, just right for pinch-
ing.
Well, that is what
Christmas was like for one
girl some seventy odd
years ago living in the
Depression plagued rural
Northwest Florida, a little
girl whose whole world
was only twenty miles in
diameter. That was the
distance between my
.father's people and my
mother's people. Back
then people lived together
and worked together and
shared together and the
strong ones carried the
weak ones, and the lazy
ones, too.
About the only place
we ever went was to visit
our people. "But I can
never remember feeling
poor and I can never
remember feeling
deprived. After all we
had a good home with
hardworking, committed
parents, and plenty of fel-

Celebrating recovery during Thursday nights graduation ceremony at the Liberty County Courthouse
were (from left) Francine Fisher (leader), Sandy Coburn, Misty McGill, Lisa Cumbie, Lori Sansom, Tara
Tucker Reddick, Gail Ray, and Teresa Hyatt (leader).

Six local ladies put past behind

them and "Celebrate Recovery"

BY KELLI PEACOCK
News Editor

Changed lives were on the
docket in the Liberty County
courtroom Thursday night
when six ladies were honored
upon graduating from the first
women's Celebrate Recovery
program offered at the jail.
A pint sized powerhouse
known as Francine Fisher got
the program started, along with
her husband, Bill, who coordi-
nates the men's program.
Teresa Hyatt joined the team
and helped lead the women
through the study program that
helps them get to the root of
what landed them behind bars.
"This class has renewed my
\ faith in God," Gail Ray told the
packed courtroom during the
ceremony. "I'm happier and I

feel God's grace again."
She wasn't alone. Lori
Sansom recalled years of psy-
chological abuse in a destruc-
tive relationship, along with
other hurts that she soothed
with drugs. When she wound
up in the Liberty County Jail on
worthless check charges, she
signed up for Celebrate
Recovery. "I began to trust the
other girls...eventually I was
able to read aloud. The Lord
brought me to my knees," she
remarked, adding that of all the
steps she went through, "The
step that touched me the most
was forgiveness. I forgave
myself and all the people who
hurt me."
Lisa Cumbie told of spend-
ing three years with "no hope,
no faith, and no love." She said
her family tried many times to

help her, but she turned them
away. "If you didn't have
money or drugs, I wanted noth-
ing from you. Then I woke up
one morning in the Liberty
County Jail asking, 'Why?'"
Cumbie said God sent help
in the form of Francine Fisher,
"a short woman with short hair
and a glow about herself I want-
ed and needed." She wound up
joining Celebrate Recovery and
struggled to, make it through
each of the eight steps. "It's
been hard these weeks, but I
made it...WE made it."
Sandy Coburn, Misty
McGill, and Tara Tucker
Reddick each shared similar
inspiring stories as they were
presented their graduation cer-
tificates, making history as the
first in the nation to use the cur-
riculum in a women's jail.

Christmas message cont'd

other was born' or will be born
like Him. He was born the God
man, the Son of God, the Son of
a woman.. One who created the
earth before He was born on it.
He is unique, there is no doubt
about it. No man was ever born
like Jesus. ;
No man ever lived like
Jesus. He lived a sin less life.
Never once did He yield to
temptation. In fact, He chal-
lenged His enemies to accuse
Him of sin. How different from
yours and mine, for we all have
sinned and come .short of the
glory of 'God.
I He predicted His own suffer-
ing, death and resurrection and
He did it in detail.' He didn't
make any effort to escape even
though He knew what was
going to happen. How different
from us. Jesus marched direct-
ly to the cross, directly to death
and suffering, knowing He
would be brought to glory.
Can you see the future? Do
you know when and how you
will die? Do you know where
you will be when you draw your
last breath? Of course not. But
Jesus knew. He was unique.
No man ever lived like Jesus.
No man ever worked like
Jesus. He demonstrated his
power over nature and said to
the raging sea, "Peace be still"
and there was a great calm.
The wind and waves obeyed
His voice. He was in control of
the elements. Mark 4:35-41.
The nets were filled with fish at
His command, the 5,000 were
fed when there was no food,
Jesus had 'power over all
nature.
He demonstrated His power
over demons. When a mad
demon-possessed maniac came

rushing toward Him, he spoke
and some 2,000 demons obeyed
His command. He was in con-
trol of the demon world. Mark
5:1-20. Then there was Mary
Magdalene whom Jesus cast
out seven devils and on and on.
He has power over the devil
and all the devils angels.
He demonstrated His power
over sickness. Lepers were
cleansed and made clean just
by the touch of His healing
hand. Fevers left as he spoke to
the eternal Father. The blind
saw, the deaf heard, and the
lame walked. No case was
incurable. He had control over
all disease. Mark 2:1-12.
He demonstrated His power
over death. Three times He
raised the dead to life again. A
little girl and a young man their
lives were restored. Lazarus
who was dead for four days was
brought bad to life. Jesus could
even control death and life.
John 11:1-44, oh what a won-
derful Savior. -
No man ever taught like
Jesus. All through His ministry
Jesus used the Old Testament
scriptures, he gave every man
an answer. During His last
week in Jerusalem when the
Scribes and Pharisees tried to
trap Him, He always gave the
right answer. First it was the
Herodians then the Sadducees
and last of all the Pharisees.
Each had a question that they
thought was unanswerable but
Christ was never silenced.
They never caught Him once,
in fact when they had failed to
trap Him He Himself asked just
one question and they were
silenced. They could not
answer Him Matt. 22:15-46.
Even as a young boy in

Jerusalem at age' twelve He
astounded the Jewish leaders
with His knowledge and pene-
trating questions. He was
unique, He was by himself, he
stood above all others in His
teaching because he was God
who had all wisdom and gave all
truth.
No man ever died like Jesus.
He didn't have to die, He vol-
untarily gave His life. He had
no fear of death, death to Jesus
was not not death, he was sim-
ply going to return to His origi-
nal abode, He had no fear. He
also died not for'Himself but for
others. He died as a substitute,
"The Lord hath laid on Him the
iniquity of us all" Isa. 53:6. His
death was an atonement for sin
and now God can deal with man
in grace for the barrier has been
torn away. No other has ever
died like that, Moses,
Confucias, Buddha,
Mohammed these were but
men. They died like any man.
Their deaths have had no'effect
whatsoever on anyone else.
But the death of Jesus provided
salvation full and free for the
whole human race. Moreover,
He did not remain dead, no! but
God raised Him from the dead.
Jesus rose again, he is alive and
sitteth at the right hand of God
today so He can save and give
us eternal life.
When you and I look to the
Christ child this Christmas
what will we see, trees, food,
fellowship, presents or will we
see the greatest gift that was
ever given Jesus Christ the Son
of God who stands alone and
above all men and brought man
back to God. Jesus the most
unique character of all times,
thank God.

Bank cont'd
Perry entered the bank and
asked to speak with the manag-
er. A teller advised the manag-
er was not in, but the assistant
manager, Megan Shiver, could
assist her. Perry met with
Shiver in her office and told her
to close the office door. Perry
then allegedly told Shiver she
needed to do what she said or
she would be in trouble. She
further stated she had two guns
and warned her not to call
authorities. Shiver managed to
slip out of the office and told the
tellers to call the police. When
Shiver returned to her office,
Perry became angry and began
telling Shiver that her house
had been burned down. Chief
Kimbrel, Major Smith, and
Ofc. Norris then entered the
office and took Perry into cus-
tody without incident.
Ofc. Norris transported
Perry to the BPD for process-
ing and as she was stepping out
of the patrol car, she told him,
"I'm old, I'm tired, and I'm fed
up!"
Perry was later booked into
the Calhoun County Jail, then
transferred to the Liberty
County Jail where she
remained in custody at press
time.

If I could give a special gift to
someone for Christmas this year, I
would give a gift to my mom. I
would give my mom one day out of
jail to spend the time of her life with
us.
It has been one year since my lit-
tle sister and I seen her. We really
miss her and I know she misses us.
I write to her sometimes but I really
want to be with her.
If I could give my mom this day,
my sister and I would take her to
dizney world for the time of her life.
We would ride the tower of terror first.
We would eat nochos and hotdog.
We would drink milkshakes and lots
of sprite. This gift would make my
mom say, 'This has been the best
day of my life.'
I know that I can't really give this
gift to my mom because of laws and
rules but it's nice to dream.
I thinkmy mom will get to come
home next Christmas so maybe I
can give her my special gift then.
Tyreek Sumner

Some people think when you get
a gift at Christmas it's just toys,
shoes, or clothes. I wouldn't give my
dad any of them, I would give him
his grandmother back.
When my dad, my mom, my
brother, and I went to the funeral, I
looked at my dad. He was sitting
down and I- saw tears streaming
down his face. When I saw the tears
I knew how much she meant to him.
When we got home that night, he
told me all about her. He said, "She
could make good cakes.' He said,
'She could make anything and it
would taste great!'
If I could give him his grand-
mother back, I know he would be
thrilled. I think remembering some-
one should be a part of Christmas.
Bryson Home

If I could give anyone, a special
gift for Christmas it would be for my
neighbors.
If I could give them food then they
wduld not be hungry and starve. My
friends and I would get some deer
and fish for Ihem. Surely, we could
give them this food and it would not
cost any money.
If I could give my neighbor some
clothes and blankets then I would
know that they weren't cold. I would
get some of their old clothes and
blankets that they pass down and it
would not cost any money.
If I could give my neighbor a
house, it would. be nice. I could ask
my parents for some money to loan
to them so that they could pay for a
new house. Last year their house
burned down and we called 911
and the firefighters put out the fire.
After the fire, another neighbor got a
trailer for them. My family helped
them with the utility bills and the
phone bill. I would like to give them
a better house because there are four
people living in their trailer. It is cold
and they don't have a lock on the
door. They would be a whole lot bet-
ter with a new house.
Name withheld by request

If I could give any gift in the world
it would be to my cousin. I'd give her
the gift of love and care.
My little cousins mom never
stays with her so it's hard to take
care of her. Hardly anyone plays
with her. Her mom doesn't play with
her and she gets mad when she
does get attention. She cries and it
stinks. Her dad left when she was
born. It's only me and my little sister
and my nanna so its really hard to
take care of her. I'd give her the gift
of love.
Name withheld by request

Have you ever had a very close
friend? I have her name is brittany
Jones. She has been my friend since
3rd grade. I would like to give her a
webkinz dolphin. She deserves a
dolphin because we have been
friends for almost a year now. Even
though we've had our ups and
downs we still made it through to
being friends. We are friends this day
and from this day forward we will be
friends forever.
Name withheld by request

If I could give my grandma any
gift in the world it would be to have
her son, Pervis, back. Ever since he
died she has not been the same. She
has been stressed, she dosen't feel
well, and she's not going to church
anywhere else. We cry a lot and
everytime I cry my aunt wipes tears
from my eyes and sings me a lula-
by. When Purvis died I was five. He
died in a car accident. I know that
my grandma is lonely without him,
so if I could give her this special gift
it would make her very happy. I
know that only God can really give
this gift but I at least wanted to try. I

know Purvis and my grandma will
be together again, but this time it will
be forever.
Name withheld by request

If I could give someone a gift I
would give my mom a car because
the last car she had was wrecked. I
know having a new car would make
her happy because every night she
cries and walks around the house
saying that it was her fault that we
wrecked. I know it's not her fault. It
was raining and she hit. a water
pocket. It threw the car and we hit. 8
trees. My mom has given up cable
t.v. just so we can have food and
that why I would give my mom a car
if I had the power to give her any-
thing in the world.
Name withheld by request

If I could give any Christmas gift
to a special person this year it would
be to give Mrs. Tammy Whittield her
husband Mark back. Mark use to
work at Big Bend until he died. Ever
since he died, Miss Tammy has
been heart broken. When I was
smaller I use to go to Big Bend and
Mark would let me play with the fish
in the tank. He would also play hide
and seek with me. Ever since he died
it has been quiet and lonely at Big
Bend.
So this year for Christmas please
let Miss Tammy spend just this one
Christmas-with-Markfthis year,.... ..
Mackenzie Eubanks

If I could give a special gift it
would be to my cousin because she
has cancer. She is in the
Jacksonville hospital and the special
gift I would give to her is to bring her
back to her house before Christmas.
That is her favorite day that she gets
to.see her mom.
Micayla Brauwerman

If I could give someone a special
gift I would give my dad a picture of
*his family because my dad has not
seen me since the 4th of July. I want
him to see how tall my brothers and
sisters have' gotten. My dad would
be so surprised at how much we
have changed.
Tfteanna Adams

If I could give a special gift it
would be to 'my little brother Beau
Riley. I would give him my 410 shot-
gun. The reason I would give my
gun to him is because he loves
going hunting with me and Blake.
He only shoots the 22 rifle. He killed
his first bird with the black 22. Next
time I go hunting I might take him
with me. I'll let him shoot the deer so
that he can feel the joy that I did
when I killed my first deer. Thats
"why I want to give Beau my 410
shotgun for Christmas this year.
Tristen Burke

Have you ever been lonley? My.
Nana has. She lost her dad a couple
years ago in a car accident. This
year for Christmas if I could give my
Nana anything in the world I would
give her dad back for one day. That
way, she could spend time with her
dad. I want to give this gift to my
Nana because she cries a lot for her
daddy. She cries when she watches
videos that she took of him.
It breaks my heart to see her cry.
I couldn't imagine losing my dad
and that's why I want to give my
Nana her dad back. I know in real
life this can never happen. But I also
know that one day Nona will be with
her dad again and will finally have
true happiness.
Alexis Tapp

I have a very special cousin. Her
name is Hannah. She's like me and
she is so adventurous. But what I
like most is the fact she is just like
me. So I'm going to give her a very
special present. Its me!
She is very much like a big sister
to me becous she helps me up when
I'm down. She cheers me up. She
knows how to make the day better.
She is so adventurous. Once we
went to the woods she said 'Lets go
over there" altho we've never been
over there and there are bears, coy-
ote, and snakes.
We've got the same favorite col-
ors blue and green. We like to do the
same things. Like once we went to
the barn and at the same time we

Well she's just like me. She's like
a big sister to me and she is a good
cousin. So I'm going to give her the
plesher of me as a present.
Tiffany 0.

If I could give a special gift it
would be to my dod. His dad died of
diabetes. It would make him so
much happyer if he had his dad
back. My dad loved his-dad very
much. When he was alive, we used
to visit him on the weekends. We
also used to go fishing with him. We
had so much fun together and my
dad always enjoyed this time togeth-
er.
Again I wish I could bring my
grampa back.
Aaron Capps

Ring...ring...uhg what was that'?
Oh no Christmas is right around the
corner! What should I get my broth-
er!? What should I do?! If there's
anything in the world my brothers
likes but doesn't talk about is a PSP.
I would give my brother a PSP
because he is really really hard to
choose a present for, he can't buy it,
and he'll finally enjoy a Christmas.
By the way, he won't buy it (basi-
cally, he wasted it all on his electron-
ics). He's not very ecotistic or vain.
Citlali G.

If I could give anyone in the
world a gift it would be my mom.and
the gift I would give is the gift of hap-
piness.
My mom is very sad because her
granny past away not long after her
dad did and that left mom very sad.
I could give my mom the gift of
happiness by cleaning the house
and yard that would help to make
her happy.
I wish 1 could give mom that gift.
Like I always say just believe.
Christian Ammons

If I could give something it will be
my dads little brother. I would give
him back because he is all alone
because he died of sickness. It was
smallpox.

If you could give someone a special gift this Christmas, what would it be?
In an effort to teach their students that it's better to give than receive,
fourth grade teachers at Blountstown Elementary School posed this
question to their classes. Here are their answers.

My friend don't have much food.
If I give them some food they would
not starve. I would loan them some

they won't be cold and would have
something to wear to go places. I
would try to help them buy or rent a

This is why I would give them a
house, some food, and clothes.
Christmas is a time of giving to oth-

D'Montee Williams

Christmas is a special time of the
year. Its also time to help those in
need. If I could give anybody a pres-
ent I would give toys to the poor peo-
ple because they do not have any-
thing to play with. That is sad to me
so I want to help them so they will be
happy.
Let's always remember, it's better
to give than to receive.
Zach O'Bryan

Christmas gift to someone it would
be to my brothers and sister. I would
bring my dad home for Christmas,
My dad has .been gone for two years
and they miss him very much. My
dad needs a break from California,
also.
My brothers will be able to wres-
tle with my dad and will be able to
open presents with him and cook
with him. My sister is just a baby so
he might just read her some books.
I really hope I can give this gift to my
brothers and sister.
Kalei Peacock

If I had a chance to give some-
one a special gift this year for
Christmas, I would choose to give
my cousin Macy a day with her dad.
Her dad died when she was only
seven years old. The only thing that
Macy has to remember her dad is a
necklace that he gave to her.
If I could give Macy a day with
her dad they would go somewhere
and have fun together. Macy and her
dad would have time to talk togeth-
er. They would also laugh and play.
But I can't give her this special pres-
ent because I don't have the power
ONLY God does.
Colby Norris

If I could give any gift in the
whole wide world I would give my
best friend Abbi a webkinz mouse
because we have been friends for
almost two years now.
She deserves this gift because
she is a great friend and she wants
one. Abbi helps me when I'm in trou-
ble and she even shares her snack
with me.
Ellie,-Martin

If I could give somebody a gift I
would give my mom and dad a day
off of work to go cruising on a big
gigantic boat where they can get a
massage, swim and talk. My par-
ents deserve this special gift
because they work so hard just try-
ing to clothe and feed their four chil-
dren. They also need time to be
alone and to not be interrupted when
they are trying to talk to each other, I
really wish I had power to give them
this special gift. I know that they
would truly love a cruise to Hawaii.

Courtney Nowling

If I could give any gift in the
world, I will give my mom a day off
because she works hard, she needs
a rest, and she takes care of her chil-
dren.
She has to work hard at the mill
to chop trees in little pieces. She
does not come home until 5 o'clock.
When she gets home, she has to
feed her children dinner and do the
dishes. My mom needs a rest
because she has three children to
watch after.
Last week we were in bed when
she come home. We did not even
see her or give her a kiss or eat din-
ner.
My mom takes care of her chil-
dren, she feeds her children and
does laundry and cleans the house.
Last week my mom was cleaning
the house and after she was done it

that right now I can at least feed one

Katie Detweiler

If I could give a gift to a person I
would give it to my best friend in the
whole wide world, Chelsea McGee.
Her special gift is going to be a
karoke machine because she likes to
sing a lot.
I remember that she was singing
in the bathroom when she was in the
shower. Whenever we got to P.E.
and its choice day, she goes in Mrs.
Kimbrel's singing class to sing.
She's my best friend and she also
helps me with my school work. She
explains the morning work and
words that I don't know. She also
plays with me at P.E. and let's me
use her eraser when I need one.
Whenever she helps me she always
gets it right. When I do get it right I
tell her, "Thank you for being the best
friend and for helping me." I remem-
ber when Mr. McClellan told Chelsee
to tutor me on my math. When the
test came I got a 100.
She deserves this special gift
because she makes good grades,
she's a good girl, and she has
always wanted a karoke machine
with two microphones on it. She
never gets her apple pulled, she's
nice, and she's a special person to
me.

If I would give somebody a gift it
will be my mama because her uncle
Perves had past away long ago, and
it's just hard for her to stop crying.
I would give my mama some
love and respect to make her feel
much better. I'm going to make her
feel better by cleaning up her living
room, cleaning up her bathroom and
her own room. If I could get her

Amy wants to go back to school
and learn like everybody else. She
wants to see her parents; but she's at
the hospital a lot. She misses her
parents really bad. She wants to be
well enough so her parents would
take her out in public and don't
worry about her.
My cousin Amy is only three and
I want her to live a healthy life.

I would give him this gift because
he likes to take me shooting,
because he has many guns to
shoot, so I can practice getting better
at my aim, and get to spend quality
time with his son.
I know that my dad deserves a
huge black cannon safe is because
he likes to take me hunting. Because
he likes to spend time inthe woods
with me, because he likes whitetail
deer like I do and he likes to shoot
his 25-06 rifle like me.
The final reason why he deserves
a huge black cannon safe is
because he just likes to spend time
with his son. He helps me fish, he
helps me hunt, and he helps do my
homework.
Hayes Strawn

My special person is my PaPa
Allen. The gift I am giving him is my
love for him.
You might ask why PaPa Allen
deserves my love. It is because he is
the only family member that goes
hunting with me. I go to his house
every weekend. We also love each
other. One reason he loves me
because I'm his grandson and I
want to spend time with you, I love
you, and praying together brings a
bond.
We also go fishing. It is fun
because the feeling you get when
you pull in a fish is exciting because
you never know how big the fish is.
It's good to fish because it brings
together a bond.
If you read my paper you can see
why he is special to me. After all, he
goes hunting with me, he loves me,
and he goes fishing with me.

Do you have a special friend that
means a whole lot to you. I do and
her name is Briana Davis. I want to

When I am sick she makes the
best soup. One spoonful will make
my day. Also, when I am sick she
tells me jokes and when she tells me
she makes me full of laughter.
She is always there when I need
her. She keeps me out of trouble.
One time she gave me a special gift
for Christmas and it was a beautiful
pink necklace that said best friends
forever. When I was sick she came
to my house and gave me a card
with money in it. And a sweet poem.
She made this broccilli and chesse
soup with grill chesse and she told
me jokes. That's my best friend.
Sharneah Daniels
If I could give a gift to someone I
would give it to my friend Lizbeth
because she helps me with my
morning work, she has been a good
friend to me, and she also shares
her stuff with me.
She helps me find the word in the
word search. She helps me with my
math work. Lizbeth also helps me
when I study for a big test. She gives
me jewelry she doesn't want. She
plays with me atp.e. She really does
help me with the Spanish in my A.R.
book. She gives me candy for break
time.
That is why Lizbeth is a special
person to me and that is why I would
give her a special gift.
Demeteria Peterson
My special person is my friend
Demetria because she is god, she
helps me with my morning work,
and she shares stuff with me.
I want to give her a gold necklace
with a ruby heart..
At p.e. she always plays with me.
Demetria is never mean when she
plays with me. She is smart and
quiet.
When I need help on my morning
work, Demetria helps me. She also
tells me how to spell words I don't
know'how to spell and she helps me
read words I don't know. When she
brings candy she gives me some.
Lizbeth M.
My mom is a special person
because she loves me, she takes
care of me and she keeps me safe. If
I had the money I will buy a first
class plane ticket for her to go to
Hawaii where she will relax and
have a lot of her time to have fun.
I know that my mom loves me
because when I get home she will
give me a kiss on my cheek. When I
call her and say bye she says bye I
love you. And last but not least right
before she goes to bed she says
good night I love you.
She takes care of me because
she keeps clothes on my back, a
house for me to sleep in, and when I
am sick she makes me feel better.
She also keeps me safe because
when I get in any car she says for
me to put on my seatbelt, she says
for me not to play in the road, and
tells me to stay out of trouble.
Bianca M.
My mom is my special person
and this year for Christmas I am
going to give her a teddy bear, roses
and some candy because she takes
care of me by doing things such as
taking out -the trash, washing the
dishes for me and cooking meals for
me whenever I am sick.
She spends time with me by tak-
ing me bowling, skating and she
even cooks with me!! What could be
better than that?
She gives 'me everything I want
and need. She buys my clothes, my
shoes, and every else. Thats waaay
bigger than better!!
Thank you mom for everything!!
You are the best mom ever!! You are
off of this planet!! I think my mom
would be on Mercury or Mars! She
would be somewhere out there in
outer space.
Mom?? Can I have a new cell-
phone?? Please?? Please?? I'll get
you some roses, candy, and a big
fat teddy bear!!
Harmony Engram

My special person is my mom. I
would give her some dolphins for
Christmas. She is nice to me, she
takes care of me when I am sick,
she helps me get better, and she
takes me to the doctor. She is not
mean to me. She protects me from
bad people. My mom won't let any-
one get me from home.
My mom buys me stuff. She
washes my clothes for me. She feeds
me food.
Oh, I forgot to tell you. My mom
loves dolphins. I got her some glass
dolphins for Christmas. She does not
want her glass dolphins to get broke.
They are special to her.
I love my mom and she loves
me. She loves our whole family too.
Shawn Pitts
The special gift I would give my
mom is the gift of love. She deserves
this gift because she is kind, caring
and loving.
She makes me happy when I'm
sad. I remember when my dog
Jasmine died. It was the first day of
summer vacation. I was crying but
my mom said its ok. We will get you
another puppy for your birthday.
She is caring because she cooks
my favorite food. She makes sure I
have everything I need like shoes
and clothes. And in the winter she
makes sure I'm all covered up.
She is loving because she gives
me hugs and kisses. She reads me
stories at night. On the first day of
school she takes me to school
instead of making me ride the bus.
And most importantly she protects
me from danger.
Darla Weeks
My special person would be my
mom Tiisha. The special gift would
be a family get together. I have three,
reasons she deserves it. She's my
protector, she goes through a lot,
and she needs her family.
She protects me from danger like
bullies, she keeps me safe, and she
takes care of me. -
She's going through a lot of prob-
lems because my uncles are beating
her down. She has no money left
and my uncles steals from her a lot.
That's why she has no money to
spend on Christmas.
She needs to see her family
because she .misses her family. We
miss her a lot because I know she's
lonely and wants to see us.
Vance W.
My special person is my first
nephew Kuntrail. The gift that I am
going to give is a drum set because
he likes to beat on things. He likes to
beat on the table, he likes to beat on
people's legs and act like his is beat-
ing on the drums. He also likes to
beat the drums at church.
He is my first nephew, he is a
good boy, and he is my best friend.
Jayda Marlow
My special person is my 4 year
old brother Jacob because I love
him, he looks up to me, and he calls
me when he is upset. That is why I
want to get him a bike. He doesn't
have one and he's getting big
enough to learn how to ride one.
We never fight, we always share.
When I leave on a trip he always
calls me on my phone like my trip to
Alaska. He called every 10 minutes.
When I got home he gave me .a big
hug and said I love you.
Richard Faircloth
One person in my life that is very
special to me is my grandma. She is
special because she always pro-
vides me with lots and lots of things
that I need.
She is always taking me to the
doctor when I am sick or hurt. She is
always spending time with me. On
the weekends and on the days she is
off from work we go out to eat. We
also go to the movies, too.
She shows me love by giving
hugs and kisses. She buys me
clothes and shoes to wear to school.

The most important thing she does is
keeps a roof over my head and gives
me a bed to sleep on. She also gives
me a tub to both in.
For Christmas, I would give my
mom a pack of Thank You earrings,
a necklace and a ring. I would clean
the house to say thank you and to
show love to her.
Kenny Godwin
The special gift I would give to
my grandmother is a new bottle of
perfume. She needs it because last
September I was in the bathroom
and I accidentally dropped the per-
fume. All the glass broke on it. The
other bottle of perfume ran out.
Instead of getting her one bottle, I
am getting her the whole set! It has
two White Diamonds bottles of lotion
and two white Diamonds bottles of
perfume! At JCPenny's the single bot-
tle of small perfume is $49.00! The
large single bottle is $60.00! The
whole set is $45.00! That's a better
deal.
I hope she will like it with the
whole set. She will probably never
run out!
Brock Williams
Open the doors! Open the doors!
If there was one gift I could give any-
body I would give my grandaddy a
fireplace because he wouldn't buy
one for himself and he really needs
one.
My grandaddy needs a fireplace
because everytime he builds a fire
the house smokes up, the fire alarm
goes off, and he has to open all the
doors.
I think my grandaddy deserves a
fireplace because he loves me and
he wouldn't buy it for himself. He
always gives to others and never
thinks of himself.
I would love for him to be nice
and warm without him inhaling
smoke all the time.
Lana Wood
If I could give a special gift it
would be love and care to a friend of
mine because he doesn't have either
one of his parents with him right
now.
His mom and dad are both far
away from home. His mom has
been gone ever since he was three
years old. His dad is fighting in the.
war. I feel bad for him because he
has no parents and he misses both
of them. His mom can't make his
ballgames. He probably doesn't get
anything for his birthday. He doesn't
get to see his mom on Mother's Day
and his dad on Father's Day.
Would you like to hear about my
friend? Well here we go! He is fun to
be with, he is funny. He likes to play
baseball and loves having friends.
That's why I like him.
I will give him the gift of love by
taking him with us places and hav-
ing my mom and dad go to his
games.
If you have a friend with parents
or no parents, make them feel better
by doing something very special for
them. People say, "Its better to give
than to receive."
Mi'kel Engram

If I could give a gift to someone
special this year it would be to my
dad. His gift would be a new 22 rifle
because he likes to go hunting for
deer and hogs. The reason my dad
needs a new gun is because he let
me shoot his old one and he took
me hunting with him. He is the best
dad I ever had.
De'Veonte Taylor
If I could give a special gift to
someone for Christmas this year I
would give my friend the gift of hap-
piness. I would give my friend the
best gift of his life, his mom and
dad.
My friend hasn't seen his mom in
over a year and won't see her for
another year. If I could give my friend
his mom for Christmas,. that would
be the best gift for him. They proba-
bly could go shopping for clothes for
him and his sister.
Most of all, he misses his mother
so much. He needs her in his life.

EHRISTMAS GREETINGS
Whether you're home for the holidays, or on the move,
