A Blountstown woman is in
critical condition after being
assaulted by her brother
Friday night.
Tammy Whitfield, 37, was
flown to TMH with three stab
wounds to her face and a
severe head injury. Her broth-
er, Dan Albert Collins, Jr., 41,
has been charged with aggra-
vated battery. Other charges
are pending.
According to Sheriff David
Tatum, an argument erupted
between Whitfield and Collins
around midnight at her home,
resulting in him stabbing her
with a kitchen knife and
assaulting her with a lamp.
The six-year-old daughter of
.Tammy's friend was present
and ran next door to the home
of Linda Whitfield, Tammy's
mother-in-law, for help.
Collins fled in Tammy's car
and was apprehended in
Hosford a short time later. He
underwent surgery for a stab
wound he apparently inflicted
on his leg during the assault.
He will be booked into the
Calhoun' County Jail upon
release from the hospital.

Calhoun Co. Sheriffs Office hosts

Little ones from across the county converged at the
youth leadership camp inside Sam Atkins Park
Tuesday night for the Christmas for the Children
party sponsored by the Calhoun County Sheriff's
Office. Throughout the year, the Sheriff's Office rais-
es money through cookouts, car shows, and other
events to make sure every child in the community.
has a merry Christmas. At the Christmas for the
Children celebration, Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the
elves stop by to distribute gifts. Churches and
organizations sponsor cabins at the camp, offering
all sorts of fun activities and holiday treats for the
children. For more highlights from this event, turn

Mossy Pond man acquitted

in shooting, child abuse case

Christmas came early for a
Mossy Pond man accused of
shooting into an occupied
vehicle and child abuse. In less

. The incident that brought
40-year-old Tommy' Hitt to
trial occurred back on
Superbowl Sunday, Feb. 4, a
day that ended in a suicide in
the woods near his home.
On that afternoon as Hitt
was preparing to host a cook-
out, an argument erupted
between Tiffany Hagans, the
grown foster daughter Hitt
and his wife had raised since
she was 12, and her boyfriend
of two years, Ronnie Sims. At
one point, Sims allegedly com-
mented to Hitt that he was
going to kill himself.
When the argument
between the couple escalated,
Hagans asked Sims to leave.
Sims then grabbed their six-
month-old daughter who was

sleeping at the .time and
reportedly remarked, "You'll
never see 'either one of us
again." Hitt said he told Sims
he was not taking the baby in
his state 'of mind. Despite
repeated pleas, Hitt, Hagans,
and two other witnesses testi-
fied that Sims put the infant in
his truck in an unfastened car
seat then began to spin out of
Hitt's yard. Hitt said he did
the only thing he could do to
stop Sims: he pulled a double
barrel shotgun from his truck
and shot at Sims' rear tires.
His quick action kept Sims
from leaving after both tires
went flat before he reached
the end of the driveway.
Sims then stormed off into
the woods and sat. in a tree-
stand the rest of the day. Hitt
said he could see him from his
grill while he was barbecuing
and even invited him to come
down and eat dinner. "He
looked at me and turned his
head." The next morning, Hitt
discovered Sims had hung
himself from the treestand. An
autopsy revealed he had both

marijuana and cocaine in his out the tires. He told the court
system. he was in the middle of a cus-

'The Snow Queen' to be

Congressman Allen Boyd
(D-North Florida), a member
of the House Appropriations
Committee, has secured
$34 000 for the construction of
a r dical center in Liberty
Co uty.
Cinding for the Liberty
Co trvt, Medical Center was the
top priority of the District
Healthcare Council, which
Congressman Boyd formed in
2005 to help meet the critical
healthcare needs of North
Florida's communities. This
funding was included in the
Omnibus Appropriations bill for
Fiscal Year 2008, which com-
bined spending for 11 of the 12
appropriations bills into one
large bill. The Omnibus
Appropriations bill passed this
week in both the House of
Representatives and the
Senate, and the President is
expected to sign this bill into
law when it reaches his desk
later this week.
"I am so proud that I was
able to secure federal funding
that will help the people of
Liberty County have better
access to healthcare," said
Congressman Boyd. "The con-
struction of a medical center in
Liberty County has been a top
priority of mine and the District
Healthcare Council, and I am
so pleased that this medical
center is becoming a reality.
There is no doubt that the clin-
ic will fill an enormous health-
care void in Liberty County and
surrounding communities."
Congressman Boyd's
District Healthcare Council
focuses on regional problem
solving and coordination among
neighboring counties to better
address the healthcare concerns
of North Florida. The District
Healthcare Council is com-
prised of 25 representatives
from 16 counties across North
Florida. Johnny Eubanks, the
publisher of the Calhoun-
Liberty Journal, represents
Liberty County on the council,

Dear Robert,
I want you to share with
your readers my appreciation
for the great care my mother
received at Calhoun-Liberty
Hospital during the last days
and weeks of her life. I've
Never seen more compassionate
and courteous people and I
want all our citizens to know
that kind of care is being deliv-
ered right here in our local hos-
We're very fortunate our
hospital has been "saved" by
the Hospital Association and
it's greatly improved in all
areas. It needs everyone to
support it by using it for the
many services it offers. They
also have a new group of doc-
tors working in the Emergency
Room and helping to take care
of patients in the hospital. I
was very impressed with all of
them. Like the hospital staff,
they are top notch!
I'm so grateful for the kind-
ness and professionalism the
staff gave to my mother in her
last days. She could not have
received better care in any hos-
pital, anywhere. I will always
be most appreciative, and
again, wish you to share this
with your readers.

In Loving Memory of
Mama & Grandma
Hazel Bailey
Dec. 25, 1925 -
Nov. 19, 2007

I still hear the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love
on cold wintery nights

I still share your hopes
and all of your cares
I'll even remind you
to please say your prayers

I just want to tell you
you still make me proud
You stand head and shoulders
above all the crowd

Keep trying each moment
to stay in His grace
I came here before you
to help set your place

You don't have to be
perfect all of the time
He forgives you the slip
If you continue the climb

To my family and friends
please be thankful today
I'm still close beside you
In a new special way

I love you all dearly
now don't shed a tear
Cause I'm spending my
Christmas with
Jesus this year.

Arrow of Truth

All From Christ
Romans 5:15
God's provision for all cre-
ation is abundance if nothing is
allowed to stand in the way,
abundance is everywhere:
mountains, oceans, rivers,
trees, flowers, food. In fact,
everything we will ever need is
already present. All we need to
do is take it!
Nowhere is God's abun-
dance more clearly demonstrat-
ed than in the overflow of His
grace in salvation.
Reconciliation is one of the
supreme gifts of God. It puts us
back on the track of completing
the destiny to which Adam had
fallen short of. It, is now possi-
ble for us to become all God has

in mind for us to be!
What a vast contrast
between the fall of Adam and
the grace of God through
Christ. The human effect, "the
many died," was exceeded by
the divine effect, "the
gift...grace." God's grace
touched every situation with
authentic joy.
Jesus takes away the sin of
the world. He does not merely
try, compromise, or do the best
He can under disastrous cir-
cumstances. he could actually
save the whole world if each
person in it would only let Him.
What a Gospel!
And it all starts with recon-
ciliation, a new experience for
us, but not for God.
