** A4 Saturday, July 21, 2018 | Santa Rosa Press Gazette OPINION It is good to see Putin and Trump meet. Between our two countries, we have 90% of the worlds nuclear weapons; it is best we get along. An isolated and angry Russia would not be good for the rest of the world. Obama or Hillary would have gotten another Nobel Peace Prize for meeting with North Korea and Russia this soon in their presidency but, according to the press, Trump doing it is the worst thing to happen to international relations„ever. Obama was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize just for showing up to work. Just weeks after invading Crimea, Putin was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Jimmy Carter and Al Gore, of course, both have one. Hit ler was nominated for one in 1939 but didnt win. He blamed it on the Jews. Id like to have seen the faces of the Nobel Peace Prize judges when Putin didnt win and KGB officers asked for their names, addresses and brief descriptions of their cars. As we know, Nobel prizes are only for Democrats. Reagan brought world peace without firing a shot by bringing down the Berlin Wall, and he didnt even get a Daytime Emmy. Joe Biden was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for helping Sino/American relations by having a nice conversation about China with the help at a New Jersey Panda Express. Socialists and communists (a.k.a. the media) and their benefactors in the Democrat Party suddenly are Cold War warriors and are taking a hard line against Russia. They point to the corrupt KGBs bullying tactics in framing political opponents. Have they been watching Comey/Strzok/McCabe/Page/Orr/Rosensteins FBI? We did the same thing under Obama. NSA spy (which Obama officials Brennan and Clapper lied about) and whistleblower Edward Snowden feels safer in Russia than in the U.S. Thats telling. For two years, Putin played chess while Obama was playing checkers. It has been said that negotiating with Obama is like playing chess with pigeons. They fly in with great ceremony but wont make a move when its their turn. Then they leave, come back and knock over all the pieces, mess on the chess board, and strut around like they won. Trump is different. He was in Helsinki to do a deal. In my award-eligible column, Putin, and Blaming Others,Ž I explored Obamas feckless relationship with Putin. Putin just went in and took Crimea under Obama, whose only reaction was a sternly-written UN letter. Putins response to Obama: "Crimea a river." Russia caught Obama off guard. Prior to the invasion of Crimea, in Obamas mind our nations biggest threats were the Koch brothers, the Tea Party and health care providers. Obama famously laughed at Mitt Romney when he said Russia was our biggest geo-political threat.Ž To be fair, Putin did allow Crimeans to vote to join Russia. The ballot only had an "Opt-in: Yes" block; there was no option to vote "No." Putin got the idea from the Facebook "User Agreement."Trump said a few positive things about Putin, and the Obama FBI and DOJ manufactured the DNCs fake Steele Dossier into an investigation. To Trumps point, we should listen to the clairvoyant Putin; he can predict with 100% certainty which of his political opponents will "kill themselves" in the coming weeks. And Putin is putting a happy face on Russian tourism. Their new slogan: Visit Russia before Russia visits you.ŽTrump„and Putin in a small room ANOTHER VIEW Address: 6576 Caroline St., Milton, FL 32570 Online: srpressgazette.com Main Of“ ce Fax Number: 850-623-2007 Classi“ eds: 850-623-2120 Publisher Jim Fletcher j” etcher@srpressgazette.com Executive Editor Jason Blakeney jblakeney@nwfdailynews.com Editor Aaron Little alittle@srpressgazette.com Staff Writer Keven Boyer kboyer@srpressgazette.com Staff Writer Ramon Rios rrios@srpressgazette.com Of“ ce Manager Carol Barnes cbarnes@srpressgazette.com Advertising Debbie Coon dcoon@srpressgazette.com Advertising Tracie Smeltoystsmelstoys@srpressgazette.comCONTACT US Call 623-2120 to report news, subscribe or learn about our classi“ ed and display advertising options. Gazette Santa Rosas PressDear editor, I dont wonder, Im sure President Trump socked it to Putin warning him to not meddle in our election. Even Obama is guilty of meddling in Israel to keep Netanyahu from victory. Shame, Shame! Thank God President Trump had the guts to tell the UN were no longer going to foot the bill. He confronted NATO for their default in financially supporting the Alliance. Theyre paying now! Obama and Bush said so, too, but never followed through! President Trump also executed moving our embassy to Jerusalem, a Biblical happening! His predecessor should have, but didnt! Shame on the bad guys who say: Trump knows little or nothing about anything; a child; not fit to be president; imbecile; incompetent, out of control president; insults our allies." Taking no salary, this patriot handles with grace the vitriolic attacks (since day one) of those hell-bent on destroying him. I love his stick-to-it-ness!He loves and cares about making America great again, praise God! As for insulting, the anti-Trumpers are insulting God„who is in control„ who orchestrated Trumps presidency. Hallelujah! Why the shock at his comment on intelligence agencies? Many Americans justifiably question, knowing Hillary got away with murder. Should she be prosecuted? Only God knows of other cover-ups or shenanigans like producing a Comey urging vote for Democrats. How did John Brennan, a former communist, get hired by the CIA? He dares to call President Trumps behavior at Helsinki treasonous."Scarborough (et al) said, We all know Putins got something on Trump."We allŽ dont know it. They dont speak for me!Impeach-ment activists better think twice! They should read two terrific books: The Case Against Impeachment of TrumpŽ by Alan Dershowitz and Liars, Leakers, and LiberalsŽ by dynamic Judge Jeanine Pirro.God bless us all as only He can. Maranatha!Chrys Holley MiltonTrump-Putin brothers? Dear editor, I think the recent meeting between Trump and Putin was a perfect time to see that Trump is one clever man.The last time I saw two people look like these two on stage was when I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito together in the Movie Twins.Ž But, Arnold and Danny surprisingly were real brothers in the movie and Donald and Vladimir are just pretending to be in real life. Oh yes, it looks like they both want to discredit NATO, and both want to generate infighting among the members of the G-7, and they both agree that Vladimirs word is truer than our US justice departments. But we all know thats just a show of pretend unity by Trump.Im pretty sure that this is all just a fantastic ruse that Trump is using to butter Putin up. Trump, I feel sure, is just optimizing the Art of the Deal with poor Vlad. Ive seen these sibling rivalries before. You just never know how they will end.Jim Moore PaceLETTER TO THE EDITORGeography counts in diplo macy, as well as military and other more tangible occupations. The Helsinki summit between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Donald Trump of the United States has sparked controversy. As usual, context helps. Reflecting location bordering Russia, Finland traditionally encounters relations among larger nations, including war and Cold War along with diplomacy. President Ronald Reagan in 1988 spent three restful days in Helsinki before going to a summit meeting with President Mikhail Gorbachev of the Soviet Union. In September 1990, President George H.W. Bush met with Gorbachev in Helsinki, following up an earlier meeting in Malta. Iraq had just invaded Kuwait, and Bush wanted to use Moscows considerable influence to reverse that armed aggression. At the time, there were several thousand Soviet military advisers in the Mideast. Nations invading other sovereign nations is unusual since World War II. Ultimately, a broad international coalition led by the U.S., and fully authorized by the United Nations, liberated Kuwait. The Soviet Union supported the effort. Washington and Moscow also were allies in 1956, in the UN and elsewhere, in the assertive … and successful … leadership of President Dwight D. Eisenhower to thwart the joint British-FrenchIsraeli military attack on Egypt. Egypts nationalist President Gamal Nassers seizure of the Suez Canal prompted that invasion. This is another example of nations violating national boundaries. Britain spearheaded the effort to return to the methods of 19th century imperialism. Ike demonstrated forcefully that the world had gone beyond tolerating that behavior. In 1997, President Bill Clinton met with President Boris Yeltsin in Helsinki. The encounter further underscored Finlands role as useful meeting ground for principal leaders of the Cold War superpowers. Beyond these two nuclear weapons powers, in 1992 the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) convened in Helsinki. This inclusive diplomatic body had grown to 52 nations, focused on promoting stability and transparency among the European nations. In 1975, the 35 nations comprising the CSCE signed the important Helsinki Accords to confirm the legitimacy of Europes national borders. This was a major diplomatic victory for the Soviet Union, as well as worthwhile generally for stability. The Trump administration overall has been consistent in giving emphasis to secure borders for Finland and the Baltic States, traditional targets of Russian aggression. "We are with you, we stand with you on behalf of freedom." Vice President Mike Pence made that statement in July 2017 in Estonia, the first stop on a trip that included Georgia and Montenegro, also pressured by Russia. President Sauli Niinist of Finland visited the White House in 2017. On April 3 2018, the United States hosted a Baltic Summit, underscoring commitment to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. In 1940, the Soviet Union annexed the Baltic States, which had achieved independence in 1918. The U.S. government continued to fly the Baltic States flags throughout that occupation. Exile groups from the Baltics become influential in the United States, and elsewhere. All three nations became NATO members in March 2004.The summit … Finland, Russia and the USPresident Trump did what his predecessors didnt Arthur Cyr Ron Hart

They stood at the Walmart entrances greeting customers and explaining the need for school supplies for needy children. Pensacola country music radio station Cat Country 98.7 provided music. A van decorated with stickers of school supplies was parked right out front of the store so donators could conveniently drop off theirgifts.According to Ronald Densen, campaign director for the program, in 2017 the event supplied over 1,000 book bags to children filled with items like flash drives, calculators, headphones, construction paper, and pencils. We clearly know that there is a shortfall in the kids going to school every year not having the appropriate tools in hand,Ž Densen said.He said the event is made possible by United Way SRC and its partners: WEAR TV, Sandy Sansing, and Cat Country. Our goal is kind of to feed that real strong need in our community,Ž Densen said. He said that after the event they will use the cash dona-tions to fill the book bags with the school supplies. Their goal, he said, is for children who are in need to come to the United Way and choose a bag and be ready for school just like any other child. When they walk into school day one, they are no different than any other stu-dent whose parent has the affordability for required school supplies,Ž he said. They are...equal.ŽPetty Officer 1st Class Brian Clark, responsible for coordinating Whiting Field volunteers for the event, said they were always looking to be involved in the community. We are just showing a representation from the command to give back to the community in any way we can,Ž Clark said.Applications for Cram the Van will be accepted until July 31. The school took the case to the appeals court after a district judge upheld a decision by the association that blocked the offering of a prayer over the loudspeaker before a championship game in 2015 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The school argues that the association, which governs high school sports in Florida, violated First Amendment rights by barring the prayer. But U.S. District Judge Char-lene Edwards Honeywell, in ruling against the school last year, wrote t hat the association had procedures that included allowing a designated public address announcer to use the loudspeaker for approved announcements. Honeywell wrote that open-ing the loudspeaker for a prayer would be perceived as state endorsement of Cambridge Christians religious message.ŽThe case focuses on a 2015 championship game between Cambridge Christian and Jack-sonvilles University Christian School.
