Relocating from Kentucky where she worked as a hospital supervisor, she said she and Robert set out to find a new place to live by heading to Phoenix, Arizona and traveled eastward until they landed in Milton. We found a house where Robert could drive his golf cart to play golf. We liked the area and the small town. I found a job,Ž she said. Pearl Ann said after her hus-band died in 2009, she spent a period of time adjusting and decided to become more social. She joined a knitting group, bowling league, a fitness and dancing club and someone told her about Sassy Senior Singles. She made friends and visited the Guy Thompson Community Centers senior program to play cards in 2011.She has since began volunteering on the activities committee and enjoys playing Bingo. Her favorite program is the lunch and learn. I enjoy learning about senior subjects,Ž she said.Pearl Ann said she has to keep herself busy since being retired is a big change for her. She said shes been in accounting her whole life. I began in a bank in Buffalo, New York; a Kentucky hospital business manager. I learned most of my accounting skills under Danny Walters. I appreciate him for teaching me as its opened a lot of doors and challenged me. Ive lived in a lot of places and had many adven-tures. Coming to the senior center has helped a lot.ŽTheres so much to do in Milton. Theres more to do here than any place else I know of so I decided to stay. I enjoy being around people. I try to help out whenever I can.One adventure Pearl Ann remembers most is when she and her family left Buffalo, New York in a 35 house boat to move to Florida.ŽWe put the boat in at the Erie Canal and traveled through the locks to the Hudson River, out through the Intercoastal Waterways, through Chesapeake Bay and back out to the Inter-Coastal. We lived in Fort Myers for a year and a half. It was a good time in our lives. We would stop in at places to gas up and buy food. It was an adventure Ill never forget.ŽMarried to Robert, her best friend for 48 years, she has one daughter and two grandchildren. Her motto is Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow is unknown. Could she make more money than the $130,000 she agreed upon, and do more damage to Trump, by violating her non-disclosure contract and speaking? In another historic first, Trump becomes the only man to ever pay a porn star to keep her mouth shut. Anderson Cooper did a surprisingly good and fair job of interviewing Stormy on 60 MinutesŽ this past Sunday. Daniels lawyer, a Democrat hitman for the likes of Rahm Dead FishŽ Emanuel and others, was creepy. He reminded me of a lookout for a Staten Island massage parlor. His legal theory of advising her to break her contract was that Trump did not put his name on it. That makes no sense; Trump puts his name on everything. To be fair to Stormy, she says she wanted to set the record straight,Ž a record that -by a legal contract -was already not public. So that also makes little sense. But small details matter. It was first reported that she was a hooker, but the public record was later corrected by her family when they insisted she was a porn star.Ž It may not mean much to you, but the distinction is important to her family and we need to respect it. I am not here to say Trump did not have the affair or to defend him like some right-wing hyperpartisans. He did it, or some variation of it. Stormy passed a polygraph test, and they are 99.3% accurate. Thats a fact. Only unfeeling, unrepentant, disillusioned liars like California Democratic Rep. ShiftyŽ Adam Schiff could pass such a test by being in the top .7 of one percent of congenital liars. But the real story is that few folks care. Trump has long been known as a philanderer, just like Bill Clinton. Hes a vain New York billionaire whos a regular on The Howard Stern Show.Ž What troubled me was that Stormy said he did not use protection. Based on Trumps tariff policies, hes very protectionist. It makes him seem hypocritical. One key thing that Trump had in his sexual affairs, and Clinton did not, was consent. Realize that then, and for most his New York life, Trump was a Democrat. He is a perfectly prototypical New York politician in the mold of hooker enthusiast Eliot Spitzer and sex scandal specialists Rudi Giuliani and Gov. David Paterson. The only New York politician not involved in any sex scandal right now is Hillary Clinton. That makes her the third most powerful woman in politics, right behind the D.C. MadamŽ and Stormy Daniels. The only way out for Trump is to revert to being a Democrat or become a Muslim. In both cases, the woman in the affair, Stormy Daniels, would get publicly stoned by fellow followers. In either case, the continuous Trump three-ring circus is eligible for a Kennedy Award next year. But this sleeping with Trump for publicity will only burnish Stormys porn reputation, and she can now add clown fetishŽ to her resume. It makes you kind of feel for the Trump boys, Eric and Donald Jr; there is nothing like memories of your dad sending you off to boarding school at age twelve and shaking your hand goodbye with stripper glitter still on his face. Charlie Sheen, the drunken womanizer who starred in the sitcom Two and a Half Men,Ž (which, if I am not mistaken, was also the name of an adult film Stormy Daniels starred in), once showed political ambitions. Nine years ago, I said that I would vote for Charlie Sheen and ignore his personal peccadilloes if hed reduce the size of government and run it efficiently. In short, like most people, I am not a values voter.Ž We all ultimately vote our pocketbooks. In the only recorded good deal by a lawyer in history, Trumps personal attorney, Michael Cohen, gave Stormy $130,000 out of his own pocket eleven days before the election. Like most of us, he just likes giving more than $100k to porn stars for no reason. I hope he paid her in crumpled $5 bills. Such loyalty in the Trump Organization can only mean one thing, my friends: We are looking at Michael Cohen as our next Attorney General. Maybe Trump, a self-professed very religious manŽ on the campaign trail, can rely on his favorite Bible verse (when asked, Corinthians TwoŽ) to get him through this. As we know, Corinthians Two was a second Tweet from the Apostle Paul to the Corinthians. The Bible tells us that man was made in just one day, and it shows. Ron Hart is a libertarian op-ed humorist and awardwinning author. Contact him at Ron@RonaldHart.com or @RonaldHart on Twitter. Whats your view? Write a letter to the editor. Its going to be a Stormy summer Ron Hart Dear editor, This tribute to the Rev. Billy Graham was presented to the Santa Rosa Writers Guild and it was suggested that I submit it to Letters to the Editor. Although it is not a poem, I wrote it in stanza formation. Billy Graham As long as he was alive He represented hope for the world Through the Savior he proclaimed. Thousands upon thousands received The messages bought by radio, Television and personal appearances. Today we grieve his passing, Although his admonishment was, Dont believe I have diedƒ,Ž Rev. Grahams reference to a home In Heaven, which was freely offered In his Crusades time and time again. This message told how God loves us and sent His Son to die in our place for Our sins, begun in the Garden of Eden. Many believed and accepted, Joyous in the fact that a New Life Had been given them through the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. So now the Rev. Billy Graham Will receive the prize set before him, He will see loved ones, and, as he Had preached, recognition will be only One of his many joys.Jane Hutto MiltonDear editor, I could easily bow down for want, but Id rather stand and be recognized and White America rejection, as I dip my finger in a watered-down America to quench my thirst for justice and equality. The cup of hate runneth over. Still yet, my struggle is of old as I age out of another generation my hope is that America will be a gracious midwife to the next generation. People of color have always been immigrants in America even though they were brought here against their will by evil white men. A black mans work has always been a load and his pay of hate has been much of the same no matter how much he bows down in need of equality, but I will stand in the gap of bigotry and justice, and I will plead my case to a falling America and pinch its racism for attention. I am of the same man in a white Constitution and all of its amendments, as my fellow white brethren. Except, you fail to recognize me in them, but I will keep looking up to a God of passion and not a white America that still harbors hate for no good reason. I will stand fast at the gate of justice and equality and beckon for all rights as a human and a man of color journeying through this barren land of hate and strongholds. I know and see what youre doing but yet youre still in denial of what youre doing and saying and its evil. And if guns are the god that you worship then hell has a place and lots of assault on waiting for you, as you do have a right to bear arms and torment.Raymond Johns MiltonWhats your view? [ALICIA ADAMS | PRESS GAZETTE] The Milton City Council will discuss options to repair the Trojan T-28B static aircraft display at the April 2 Executive Committee meeting. [ALICIA ADAMS | PRESS GAZETTE] vice regent of the local DAR chapter, said. When I realized that April marked the 100th anniversary of the Creed, I wanted to highlight that fact.ŽThe national DAR orga-nization had the leaflets available, so the organization saw it beneficial to educate students on the document. This task aligns with the objectives of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, according to Takeuchi, as laid out in their first meet-ing in 1890.The organizations objectives are:€ Historical: to perpetu-ate the memory and spirit of the men and women who achieved American Independence€ Educational: to carry out the injunction of Washington in his farewell address to the American people, to promote, as an object of primary impor-tance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge, thus develop-ing an enlightened public opinionƒŽ€ Patriotic: to cherish, maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, to foster true patriotism and love of country, and to aid in securing for mankind all the blessings of libertyThroughout the year, the DAR gives back to local students in other ways.Every September, we donate pocket Constitutions to students during Constitution Week,Ž Takeuchi said. We also annually award a DAR Youth Citizenship certificate and scholarship. Additionally, we present one JROTC medal at each of two schools every year.Ž PACKETSFrom Page A1The Americans CreedI believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacri“ ced their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its ” ag, and to defend it against all enemies.Ž … William Tyler Page The city is to submit a scope of work and estimated completion date to the NNAM within 90 days, which ends April 30.According to Watkins, the first priority is to conduct the engineering study on the concrete pedestal and mounting bar. The city will then need to decide how to move forward with the repairs. Having the aircraft repaired on site will cost approximately $50,000, Watkins said, while relocating it will double or triple the cost. Its not going to be cheap no matter what we do,Ž Watkins said. The last option would be to give it backƒ but we will have to deliver it to them.ŽCouncilman Jeff Snow said he spoke to people who may be able to volunteer their time and knowledge to help maintain the aircraft. The City Council will discuss options at the April 2 Executive Com-mittee Meeting.AIRCRAFTand dont fall for fake.ŽThe representatives discussed ways to spot potential scams and dem-onstrated how quickly information can spread on the web.Google created the program in partnership with principals and child safety groups, National Association of Secondary School Principals and iKeepSafe, to develop a digital literacy assembly that could be shared across the country, according to a press release. The veterinarian estimated Penny was approximatelyfour months old, weighed almost seven pounds and had severe parvo. The treatment would cost nearly $1,000 or more. When I received the initial estimate for treatment from Milton Animal Hospital, I admit it was a big pill to swallow,Ž Jennifer said. I immediately began thinking of different resources I could call upon. I was determined to do everything possible to give Penny the chance she deserved.ŽJennifer said she received support and kindness from the staff at Milton Animal Hospital. She paid up front for 24 hours of parvo treat-ment, but once she started a GoFundMe page, the donations started pour-ing in. Some even donated directly to the clinic.I couldnt have asked for a better team to care for Penny,Ž Jennifer said. Our pets have been with Milton Animal Hospital since 2014. Dr. Husted, Dr. Loring and the staff at Milton Animal Hospital are top notch and I wouldnt trust my pets with anyone else.ŽWithin five days, Jenni-fer reached more than half of her goal of $846.I was very overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of support from my friends and family,Ž Jennifer said. The support started flowing in from all over the U.S., and Pennys story was spreading like wildfire.ŽJennifer plans on keeping Penny until she is com-pletely healthy. According to Jennifers latest update, the GoFundMe campaign closed on Friday since Penny is progressing quickly. She thanked everyone who donated for all of their support.A few friends have already reached out, wanting to give her a forever home,Ž Jennifer said. As much as I would love to keep her, I have to do whats best for her. In the meantime, we are just focusing on getting her well and giving her all the love and cuddles she deserves. It truly takes a village, and I am so proud of and humbled by mine.ŽCanine parvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease that attacks a dogs blood cells and most severely affects the intestinal tract. The virus can produce a life-threatening illness.I hope Pennys story inspires others,Ž Jennifer said. I hope it helps educate others about the dangers and seriousness of parvovirus and how vaccinations are so important for our pets, but also that in some cases it can be treated.Ž PENNYFrom Page A1

Representing the state of Florida, Stanley Harper of Milton met with offices of Senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio and Represen-tatives Neal Dunn and Matt Gaetz. The advocates, including adults and children living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, family members and caregivers of people with diabetes, researchers, phy-sicians and diabetes care providers participated in 179 meetings with their members of Congress and urged them to address the diabetes epidemic, now the nations most costly dis-ease according to the ADAs newly released Economics of Diabetes in the U.S. in 2017Ž (Economic Costs of Diabetes) report.Harpers message to Con-gress centered on making diabetes medicines and technologies affordable.I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes in November 1978,Ž Harper wrote in a press release, and have been an active ADA volunteer/advocate with over 18,000 volunteer hours. First, to use home blood glucose monitoring in 1978. Since 1978 technologies and insulins have improved greatly, thanks to past fed-erally-funded NIH research. We need to make sure those advancements continue. And we need to make sure people can afford the technologies and insulin they need to manage diabetes. Congress, join me in this fight.ŽIn addition to people with diabetes and health care providers, advocates included nine members ofTeam Tackle„an initiative to engage professional foot-ball players and members of the NFL Players Association to raise awareness of diabetes and prediabetes.During the press conference at the Dirksen Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill, the ADA released the sobering numbers around the economic burden outlined of the diabetes epi-demic and called on Congress to make diabetes a national priority and invest in critical diabetes research and programs. According to the report, the economic costs of diagnosed diabetes increased 26 percent from 2012 to 2017, due to both the increased prevalence of the disease and the increased cost per person living with diabetes. These costs include $237 billion in direct medical costs for diagnosed diabetes and $90 billion in reduced productiv-ity. The largest contributors to the cost of diabetes are higher use of prescription medications beyond diabetes medications ($71.2 billion), higher use of hospital inpa-tient services ($69.7 billion), medications and supplies to directly treat diabetes including insulin ($34.6 bil-lion) and more office visits to physicians and other health providers ($30 billion).Every 21 seconds, another American is diagnosed with diabetes, and this devastat-ing illness continues to be a harsh economic burden on the people living with it and our nation as a whole,Ž LaShawn McIver MD, MPH senior vice president of government affairs and advocacy of the American Diabetes Association, said. Our Diabetes Advocates play a crucial role in telling leaders in Congress that they must act now to turn the tide on this epidemic.ŽThe co-chairs of the Senate Diabetes Caucus, Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), also spoke at Thursdays press conference, sharing their efforts to support people with diabetes and their continued commitment to ensuring federal funding for diabetes research and programs. ADAs 2018 President of Sci-ence and Medicine Jane E.B. Dr. Reusch is Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry and Bioengineering and Associ-ate Director of the Center for Womens Health Research at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Martha P. Clark, MBA, the ADAs interim CEO, who has lived with type 1 diabetes for more than four decades, echoed Reuschs urgent call for the nations leaders to take action and change the trajec-tory of the diabetes epidemic. In meetings with their representatives in Congress, advocates asked legislators to:€Provide $2.165 billion to the National Institutes of Health National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the primary federal agency that conducts research to find a cure and advance treatments for diabetes €Allocate $185 million for the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions Division of Diabetes Trans-lation, which spearheads essential efforts to reduce risk, complications, treatment and management of diabetes while also continu-ing innovative translational research and surveillance €Support $25 million for the National Diabetes Prevention Program, an evidence-based lifestyle intervention program proven to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes €Increase transparency, affordability and access to insulin so no one who relies on this lifesaving medication ever has to worry if theyll be able to afford it.
