A new concept in pho-

to take Jacksonville by

The concept behind
Grin City Studios,
which is owned by loe
Sleiman,brotheroflack-

Toney Sleiman, lies in
about 100 sets that cre-
ate magical and whim-
sical settings for pho-
tographs. Being three
dimensional, these sets
put Grin City apart
from other specialty
photo studios like
Glamour Shots because
they allow people to

Sleiman said. For
example, a person may
be sitting in a bathtub
that's filled with fake
bubbles, hiding out in a
treehouse or creating
chaos in a mock school
bus with a bunch of
friends. Though the sets
are mostly children-ori-

business is gearing up
to have sets for thew-

The object of this letter
is to encourage others
to believe that without
depending on the Holy
Spirit, no one can do
anything. I am not
interested in giving
glory for myself, but
am seeking to show
others what faith in the
living God can do when
we obey Him to do His
work when asked to do
so.

I was born in 1908 in
Damascus, Syria from
Syrian Orthodox par-
ents. When I was six
years old, I had a dream

Jesus of Nazareth is the
Messiah, the Christ. He
never led an army nor
held a political office.
His entire life was
devoted to proclaiming
the kingdom of God.
That kingdom envi-
sioned an end to all
domination of one
human being over an.
other, and any form of
repression.

Jesus openly disagreed
with the religious and
civil authorities of his
day. He challenged the
religious structures and
civil occupation powers
while remaining faith-
ful to the essentials of

he aroused opposition

Holy Quran has given
clear instructions to the
Muslims that .they
should be Polite in. all
walks of life:

"And speak to the peo-

And speak good
words."

Holy Quran.2:84

Politeness is an act of
charity as in indicated
by one's smile on
his/her face. The choice
of politeness, courtesy,
cheerfulness ,should,
however, be made
intentionally and delib-
erately. As such, all
mankind should be
treated kindly and
affectionately, as well
as politely. Thus speak-
ing of good, courteous

and polite words to all
mankind stands for
kind and without preju-
dice dealing with all
human beings.

Speaking 'politely to
the people' not only
means outward cour-
tesy but also the safe-
guard of the people
from being exploited,
deceived and defrauded
by other people. So the
Muslims are instructed,
as of Holy Quran, to
speak to all the people
politely and treat them
with courtesy and a
smiling face.

All Roads To Atlanta
(continued from page 1)

Atlanta Committee
promises to build on the
J ac k s o nv i l l e-
Convention's great suc-
cess. We will be featur-
ing Nabil Tohme and
Sahar who kept us danc-
ing all night last year.
They have had plenty of
rest and are ready to go.
Bobby T. Tanory will
take a break from his TV
show to keep us danc-
ing.
As anyone knows
who travels, to go any-
where in this country by
air you have to, go
through Atlanta. It's the
easiest and least expen-
sive place in the U.S. to
fly. Six interstate high-
ways go through
Georgia and you can
even take the train. We
have got great hotel
rates. So you have no
excuse not to continue
the excitement and
make new memories.
In addition to special

exciting events every-
day for children, youth
and singles we will be
featuring wonderful cul-
tural presentations.
Also, hospitality is
always the key in
Georgia:
There is so much to
see and do in Atlanta.
Stone Mountain, Six
Flags over Georgia,
White Water, CNN, The
Carter Center, at least
three Gone With The
Wind Museums and
World of Coca Cola are-
among the places and
sites that you could visit
while at the convention.
Several of these will be
on the agenda.
We know we will see
you in Baton Rouge and
then it's on to Atlanta.
Look for all the infor-
mation in the next
Bulletin and in flyers
that you will be receiv-
ing very soon.

like his idol, actor John
Travolta in the 1977
movie classic Saturday
Night Fever-

Yesterday, his
Southbank law firm
was named general
counsel for john
Travolta and his pro-
duction companies,
meaning every detail of
Travoltis movie career
will pass through
Jacksonville.

"This is rare that you
have a Jacksonville-
based attorney repre-
senting a major A-list
Hollywood star," said
Todd Robin, head of
the city's film and tele-
vision office. "It's a
wonderful opportunity
both for Mike and for
Jacksonville."

Ossi, 43, said it was a
matter of luck and hard
work that led Travolta
- who is building a
home with an airstrip in
Ocala-to Ossi's firm.

(continued on page 2)
Four years ago, Ossi
represented actor
Gregory Harrison. who
starred in the television
series Safe Harbor,
which was being filmed
in Jacksonville in 1999.
He said he has since
acquired more than 20
clients in the entertain-
ment industry, declin-
ing to identify them.

His connection to
Travolta came during
the filming of the mili-
tary thriller Basic,
which starred Travolta
and was filmed last
year at Cecil
Commerce Center.
Ossi's firm, Ossi;
Butler Najem &
Rosario, was handling
the legal work for
Basic's production
company and some of
the film's other actors.
Travolta took notice of
the four-lawyer firm,
and, after a trial basis,
decided to stick with
them.

said. Those include- a
penchant for t' buying
and flying airplanes;
managing three houses;
and overseeing his
movie career, which
includes running two
production companies,
JTP Films and
Constellations''
Production.

Travolta was in Texas
yesterday, learning to
fly Boeing 707 jets, and
could not be reached tt
for comment.

Since taking over
Travolta's account in
mid-May, Ossi said his
firm has logged about
100 hours per week
tending to Travolta's
affairs. That means
reading scripts, writing
contracts and negotiat-
ing deals for such
upcoming Travolta
movies as Love Song

"Every matter involves
high stakes; this is not
for everybody," Ossi
said. "If I make a mis-
take on even a little
matter, it could cost
[Travolta] a fortune."

Being based in
Jacksonville, which is
not an entertainment
center, is not a burden,
Ossi said. Travolta's
team is in contact every
day via the Internet and
telephone, and they still
have a Los Angeles-
based entertainment
lawyer that they use on
an as-needed basis.

Ossi's firm sends
Travolta an update of
his affairs every day at
5:30 p.m.

"He's very hands-

a partner in the law
firm, said of Travolta. i'

Travolta/Ussi
(continued on page 7)

Having Travolta as a
client has brought a
certain amount of fame
toiOssi Butler Najem &
Rosario, which built its
name on handling per-
sonal injury cases and
representing corporate
executives. People reg-
ularly ask the staff
questions about
Travolta, or ask to meet
the star.

Ossi is planning on
leveraging i' his enter-
tainment industry;
know-how to build his
firm, which has been in
business since 1986.

"Our goal is to be the
largest entertainment
law firm on the East
Coast, and I believe we
will attain that in the
near future," he said.

Najem said the First
Coast will benefit in the
process. Already, the
firm's phones are ring-
ing with other movie
stars and production
companies on the other
end.

"Jacksonville's now on
the map. People are fol-
lowing john Travolta's
lead because he's so
respected in the indus-

the country. Studios in
Richmond, Va., and
Atlanta are gearing up
for openings, and more
than 20 other franchises
are "ready to go," he
said. A deal is being
finalized with a fran-
chisee to handle the
Jacksonville market,
where about three stu-
dios are envisioned.
They will be located in
the area's malls if high-
traffic locations can be
found. If not, Grin City
will open in one of the
Slei man family's many
neighborhood shopping
centers.

All of the photographs
are taken with digital
cameras which allow
more shots to be taken
than with a film cam-
era.

"When we get to
Jacksonville we're
going to change the
way photography has
been done for 125
years," Sleiman said,
who sold an Orlando
billboard business
before co-founding
Grin City.

The price is $75 for the
first pose, and $30 for
every pose after that.
Included are four 5x7s,
10 4x6s and one 8x10.

Beside photographing
families and aiming to
capture the Santa Claus
photo market in the
malls, Grin City also
aims to revolutionize
sports photography.
The company has
mobile units that go out
and do team and player
photographs for Little
League and other sports
teams.

(continued on page 2)

"A lot of the people in
the photography busi-
ness on the national
scale have to be won-
dering if we'll make it,
with our own process-
ing plant and expensive
cameras,' Sleiman said.
"But when they see
what we do, they've got
t be saying to them-
selves. How are we
'going to make it?"

(continued from page 1)

Mohammad Al Zubair,
Advisor for Economic
Planning to Oman's
Sultan Qaboos and
founder of the giant Al
Zubair Corporation,
has become deeply
involved in efforts to
revitalize interest and
further develop the vast
potential the sultanate
possesses. Sheikh
Mohammed talked to
The Middle East's
Caroline Carpentier in
Muscat.
TME: Oman is perhaps
the least known country
of the GCC although
the sultanate has a pres-
tigious cultural and his-
torical heritage com-
bined with amazing'
landscapes. What has
the Al Zubair
Corporation's contribu-
tion to the country's

tourism industry been?

MAZ: Unfortunately,
the current political and
economic situation is
not encouraging. visi-
tors to come to the
Middle East region. But
Oman is a beautiful
country with a lot to
offer. His Majesty
would like our big
companies, such as the
Al Zubair Corporation,
to develop projects that
will attract visitors and
boost the tourism
industry. That's what
we did.

TME: Today the devel-
opment of the tourism
industry is a priority.
Do you expect this
industry to become a
major source of income
for the country?

MAZ:. Yes, Oman has
everything to become a

first class tourist desti-
nation. As you know,
we are building a very
big *resort (Barr Al
Jissah) which will open
around 2005. This
resort will really
upgrade our country at
a tourist destination,
providing top hotels
and very high quality
services. Additionally,
there are other projects
such as the Al Sawadi
Beach under develop-
ment and yet more in
Dhofar, Salalah and the
Batinah Coast regions.

TME: What type of
tourism will you be tar-
geting?

MAZ: The idea isto set
a standard of luxury
that will target top of
the range visitors. We
will shortly begin a
serious campaign to
promote Oman as an

us, a pilot-project. The

developing tourism in
the sultanate.

it will be important to

tourism. So you see,
this is not a new idea.
However, it was agreed
long ago that before we
launched any large-
scale international pro-
motion, we wanted to
be in a position to
accommodate visitors.
Now, we are. Most of
our projects have been
undertaken with local
investment, both from
the private and the pub-
lic sector. Nevertheless,
international investors
are welcome if they
bring with them a good
project.

TME: Oman already
has a very good infra-
structure to attract
tourists, with luxury
hotels, outstanding
physical attractions,
first class restaurants,
an international airport
and the like. What do
you plan to create to
make Oman a first
choice destination?
Will there, for example,
be entertainment cen-

tres, festivals or sports
events?

MAZ: We hosted the
Muscat Festival earlier
in the year. The event,
which ran for a month
was a big success
which we plan 'tO
repeat annually. We are-
also considering a proj-
ect to build a cultural
centre for international
exhibitions here. The
museum I have created,
Bait Al Zubair, which
reflects our unique
Omani culture, our his-
tory and traditions, will
be expanded. New
areas will be opened
and we plan to establish
a library. Step by step,
archaeologists are
unearthing pieces of
our unique history. We
wish to create a litHe
museum in the souq
area of dhe city to
exhibit these wonders.

TME: You are a suc-

Qaboos for economic
planning and you are
also a great photogra-
pher (Mohammad Al
Zubair has published a
book of photographs on
his homeland, Oman,
My Beautiful Country
in English, French,
German and Japanese).
What is the personal
contribution to Oman,
you are most proud of?
MAZ: I am grateful His
Majesty has given me
the opportunity to play
a 'role in the economy
of our country and-
proud of what I have
accomplished. But I
always wanted to be an
artist and that desire
has, never left me,
which is why I continue
to get so much pleas-
ure from photography
and design work. For
instance, I have re-
designed the govern-

ment logo. However,
my priority now is the
promotion of Oman. I
am directing my efforts
towards placing Oman
among the world's
quality tourist destina-
tions, that is now my
big challenge. I want to
continue raising inter-
national awareness of
the people of Oman. I
am currently working
on several books on our
forts, our mosques, our
architecture, and on the
Dhofar province. I
enjoy what I am doing
and I want the best for
Oman.

group's St. Louis chap-
ter visited the Daar-
UIIslam mosque in
west St. Louis County
and a mosque on the
campus of Saint Louis
University.

American Muslims
have grown especially
concerned about pro-

tecting their civil rights
following the federal
government's scrutiny
of the community after
Sept. 11, 2001, said
Nihad Awad, executive
director-of the Council
on. American-Islamic
Relations.

"To create a balance
between safety and
security and civil liber-
ties is critical for our
nation,". Awad said.
"Our community has
suffered tremendously
from civil rights abus-
es. Employment dis-
crimination, detentions,
surveillance, the policy
of counting mosques.
These are important
issues that we bring to
the table."

My education was not
even through high
school. In 1927 after
we suffered from the
was I tried to be
employed in the rail-
road between
Damascus, Jordan, and
Palestine. With the help
of the Lord I was
accepted to work
among all Muslim
employees for 12 years.
The Lord made me a
good example of the
believers while I did
not know anything
about the Bible.

To make the story
short, I came to the US
in 1938 and the Lord
kept showing himself
to me in unusual
dreams to show me my
position in Christ since
1950 and to the end of
my life. In 1968, even
without a college edu-
cation, I was accepted,
along with my wife, to

be a missionary with
North Africa Mission.
In 1969 we were sta-
tioned Marseille,
France. With three lan-
guages, French, Arabic,
and English, the Lord
was directing my life
day by day.

I am going to mention
three important mira-
cles to prove to you the
presence of the Lord
Jesus was with me.
First, I had a dream that
I was with Jesus in a
very bright room and
He was preparing a
table before me. When
I approached to hold
Him, He vanished.

The next miracle
occurred when my mis-
sion ordered me to go
to North Africa to
encourage believers. I
did not know that there
was a drought there. We
came to a crossroads
with no sign and we
stopped. In a few min-

utes a highway patrol-
man came to help us.
When I spoke to him in
Arabic, he was happy. I
asked him for direc-
tions and he showed us
the way. Then I asked
him why the ground
was-dark and cracking.
He replied that here had
been a drought for two
and a half years. i asked
him if the religious
leaders had prayed.
many times, he said,
but still not rain. I
asked him if he
believed in jesus, our
Lord. He said no. Then
I said, If he brings
down rain from heaven,
will you believe in
-Him? he said that if he
saw rain with his own
eyes, he would believe
in Jesus. The three of us
held hands and I said in
a loud voice, "Lord
Jesus, prove yourself."
I turned to the police-
man and said wait for
the rain. I praise the

name of our Lord who
was present and put His
words in my mouth. We
left without any further
word. After 40-45 min-
utes, the rain came so
hard that I had to drive
my motor home on the
white center line to be
sure that we were on
the highway. Along
with the rain, millions
of frogs were coming
down as a plague on
Morocco.

The Lord took from my
mind, and from my
wife's mind, the mira-
cle of the rain, that the
glory will be His for
what He is going to do
in saving souls. while
we were in Morocco
and France, we never
thought of this miracle.
It wasn't until we came
back to the US to tell
the churches what the
Lord had done in
Morocco that the Lord

returned it back to our
minds. What a great
God we have.

The third miracle
occurred in 1972 while
we were stationed in
El-Bccaa, between
Damascus and Beirut.
It was in the winter
time. Even though we
were very friendly with
the Syrian officers who
were stationed there,
some Muslims were
warning us not to
preach about our faith. I
a way we were afraid. I
had to check my car to
see if they had put a

bomb in it.

I called a taxi to take us
to Beirut. Instead of
coming before noon, he
came a 4:30 and said
that he didn't know if
we could climb the
three summits to Beirut
at night. I said let's go.
We reached Mrajat, a
small town before the
climbs. I noticed that
more than 50 vehicles
were standing still on
the ice. No one was
moving and there was
no way for our taxi to
go through. I said, Lord
help us. As soon as I
said it, a small French
car was trying to climb

It became dark. When I
looked back i saw no

death. Jesus refused to
submit his divine mes-
sage and actions to
human judgment. He
remained true to his
mission from God. The
Romans and Jews
brought him to death by
crucifixion.

Three days after his
burial in a borrowed
tomb, Jesus rose from
death to glorified life.
The reality of Jesus
Christ for us is based
on the fact that when
his death and resurrec-
tion are proclaimed
today, those who hear
this proclamation are
faced with a moment of
decision: a choice
between an authentic
life rooted in faith, or
an empty life of sin.

The footsteps of Jesus
left a unique imprint on

the holy lands of the
Bible, which endowed
them with an ineffable
blessing transcending
their physical endow-
ments and human diffi-
culties.

The contemporary
nations of Palestine,
Israel, Lebanon,
Jordan, Egypt, and
Syria, Iraq, Tran are all
holy lands of the Bible.
In those areas Jesus and
Abraham lived; also
Mohammed.

The cities and roads of
these countries date
from antiquity. The
modern highway in
Jordan from Aqaba to
Amman is the same
route followed by
Moses and his people
on their way to Canaan.
The road from Tiberias
to Bet Shean in Israel is
that used by Paul on his
return from Damascus.

Within a short distance
of each other in
Jerusalem are struc-
tures marking the sites
of the Temple, the cru-
cifixion and and sepul-
cher, and Mohammed's
journey to heaven.

Geography accounts
for this rich' historical
legacy. Palestine,
Israel, and Jordan are
on the land bridge
between Africa and
Asia. The Jordan River
Valley is the area's out-
standing topographical
feature. It is part of the
deep rift that stretches
from northern Syria to
East Africa. The word
Joran comes from a
Hebrew verb that
means to descend. The
Jordan River's path
drops more than 2200
feet from Mount
Hermon to the Dead
Sea, the lowest point on
earth.

A pilgrimage to the
holy Jands makes one
more aware of the
geography and history
of salvation. Pilgrims
experience an identifi-
cation with the history
of salvation. The names
of persons and places
no longer remain only
names. Reading the
Scriptures anew, pil-
grims experience the
living God in a new
way that enlivens their
faith.

For Jewish, Christian,
and Muslim believers
Jerusalem is a holy city.
Yet it remains a disput-
ed and contested city.
Religious division and
violence still exist
there. How long will
religion be the cause of
wars, violence, strife,
and disputes among
believers? Not for that
reason has God

It nonetheless is lost in

With 69% of Iran's
population under the
age of 30, the tradi-

mentary elites are
acutely aware of the
potential political
dynamism of these
upcoming generations.
Most young and edu-
cated Iranians are keen
to emulate western
fashions, but reconcil-
ing such desires with
the social responsibili-
ties required by a life
under an Islamic polit-

be frustrating. Reza is
a 20 year-old student
of veterinary medicine.
He lives with his fami-

Tehran. "Most young

did are now unhappy

Iranians can freely
view western websites
containing information
on issues ranging from
politics to Picasso,
Shakespeare to
Shakira. It has also
become a playground
to meet and socialize.
Levels of social and
sexual restraint upon
Iran's youth are
notably high; Internet
chat rooms provide an
outlet for young people
feeling stressed by the
laws and social mores
that govern their lives.

such changes are not
representative .of
Iranian society as a
whole. Kaaveh, who is
24, lives in Esfahan.
Arguably Iran's most
beautiful city, it is an
immaculately well-
kept tourist attraction.
He feels the climate of
control has strength-

degree: "Where you

they're making up here

Kaaveh has many a
tale to tell of how
friends have suffered
at the hands of this
strict control: "some of
my friends have been
approached by the
Commiteh... and told-
off for wearing the
wrong clothes. It hap-
pens a lot in this city",
he confirms.

"Increased freedom
has also' widened the
gap between rich and
poor", says Kaaveh
and this is a visible
across Iran. It is now

easier for rich Iranian
families -to show off
their wealth because
western goods are
more readily available.
The wealthy enjoy hol-
idays to Dubai, satel-
lite TV and four-wheel
drive cars, whilst the
poorest families con-
tinue to exist close to
the breadline as they
have pretty much since
the revolution. Kaaveh
feels the Iranian gov-
ernment is to blame.
He feels that too much
money is being spent
outside Iran, that char-
ity should begin at
home. "They keep giv-
ing money to causes
which have nothing to
do with Iran. We can't
afford that and I don't

Dubai goes on the rai

sections that by 2020
the population of
Dubai should reach
3m. This research
was undertaken
against the backdrop
of the predicted
number of active
vehicles on the roads
reaching 350,000..
When compared tO a
figure of just 5,000
vehicles recorded on
Dubai's road in 1991,
this shows the extent
of the growth in traf-
fic and the inevitable
strain on the existing
transport infrastruc-
ture. "We cannot
keep widening roads
to cope with the
pressure of traffic. If
we do, we will dis-
turb the character of
the community.

The municipality
wants to put priority
on people, not cost,"
said Dr Abdelgader
0. Elshbani, a trans-
portation planning
specialist in the
Dubai planning and
survey department.
The study also
compared passenger

(continued from page 26)

capacity per lane per
hour across the roads
for cars and buses
and along rail
lines for trains. The
capacity for cars
ranged between
2,000 to G,OOO pas-
sengers, buses
achieved 10,000 pas-
sengers, while trains
proved to be most
efficient with a score
of 20,000 passen-
gers. This compari-
son of figures,
according to
Elshbani, proved to
be a conclusive fac-
tor. Long-term bene-
fits will outweigh the
initial investment, he
believes.

The new rail transit
system will have two
lines: the Green Line
will run from Dubai
International Airport
to Al Ghubaiba and
the Red Line will
begin at the Sharjah
border and will run
through to Jebel Ali.
Each-line will be 50
km long and will be
supported by 37 sta-

tions. There is a fur-
ther option, still
under consideration,
to build a circular
railway in the centre,
of town, which
would be, 8 km long.
It is not yet known
when the conclusions
of this study will be
published.

The track line will
run partly under-
ground stretches will
run at ground level,
while several lengths
will be elevated over
developed areas. The
elevated areas, the
most expensive sec-
tions of the line, will
cost DhlOOm
($27m) per km to
construct and Dh51m
($13.6m) to maintain,
each year. The capi-
tal cost will be
spread over 12 years
at an average of
D h2 2 0 2 5 m
($59.4m) per year..

The study estimates
that at peak hours the
network will support
27,500 passengers,
which rises to
275,000 for each
day, and a total of

88m journeys will
have been made per
year. The fare will be
Dh2.75 (75 cents)
per journey. This fig-
ure will cover the
maintenance cost but
will not go towards
paying for the origi-
nal capital expense.
However, Elshbani
predicts that Dubai
will save Dh425m
($116m) each year
from improved
mobility on the roads
and shorter travel
times in general.
There are also likely
to be fewer accidents
and less pollution.
