Police Search For Bus Stop Flashers

Jacksonville, FL Police are looking for two
d.,i Ei. men suspected of exposing themselves to young chil-
dren at bus stops on Jacksonville's Westside and
=o. Northside.
Police say one of the suspects is an older white
-.. man who may be driving a green minivan with the back
dented in. Reports about this man exposing himself
started coming in to the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office in early August. They have
received more than a dozen reports.
The other suspect is described as being a light skinned African-American man
driving a red Toyota truck. At least three reports have come in on him since early
November.
One of the school children's mother said her daughter told her something she
couldn't believe. She said he was naked and waved at us.
The kids said he came over to that comer (Burs Street and Kingsbury), got
out of his car naked, and waved at the kids with his private parts.
They say it happened Tuesday morning. One parent said she can't believe this
suspect has been doing this since August. She says she worries about what could
come next. "He could just grab them and put them in his car and drive off," said one
of the parents.
"He came out butt-naked and told us to come over to him but we didn't," said
a seven-year-old.
The school is working with transportation to make sure busses arrive
for the kids on time. A letter was sent home to the parents explaining the situation.
Police say they need your help in finding these men.
If you have any information about this or any other crime, call our partner,
First Coast Crime Stoppers, at 1-866-845-TIPS. You will remain anonymous and
could be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.

thugs who have an odd penchant for stealing pants.

a passenger pointed a gun at him, while a second passenger demanded the man's
trousers. The victim \x as then shot several times, police said.

Woman Tells Cop She Bought 'Bad Crack' Remains Wash Up Along St. John's River

HAWTHORNE, Fla. A North Carolina woman
was arrested after complaining to a police officer that the
crack cocaine she had just purchased wasn't very good, I : '
authorities said.
Eloise D. Reaves, 50, approached the Putnam
County sheriffs deputy at a convenience store Friday,
telling him that another man had sold her "bad crack" .
that contained wax and cocaine.
She pulled an alleged crack rock out of her
mouth and placed it on the deputy's car for inspection,
the Palatka Daily News reported for Tuesday editions.
The deputy told Reaves that she would be arrested if the crack tested posi-
tive for cocaine.
She was charged with possession of cocaine and bonded out for $1,504.

Houston County, GA If you break the law
you may be sentenced to tell the entire com-
munity. It's a new form of punishment from
the Houston County District Attorney's
office, one that turned hundreds of heads
Wednesday.

It's called the Personal Responsibility Program. District Attorney Kelly Burke is tired
of people lying to police and thinking they can get away with it.

Downtown Gets an Upgrade to Help Visually
Impaired

Jacksonville, FL A simple
Sting like crossing the street isn't always an
: easy task. especially when you can't see what
is out there.
ig u there" ar I had to change my whole
So l: mind set and learn how to do things differ-
ently," says Dan O'Connor, president of
Jacksonville Council for the Blind.
Dan has been legally blind
since his early t aenties. He gets around fine with his cane, but soon there may be an
extra voice of help for him and others that are visually impaired.

The city is working on a he%\ pilot project to. install automated pedestrian.
crossings at downtown intersections.
"It helps people that have vision impairment to be able to navigate and be
able to get around more independently like anyone else would." O'Connor says.
Right now, there are only four automated crosswalks in the city. The new sys-
tems would replace regular push button cross\valks.
When pressed. you would hear a series of beeps that warn you not to cross.
When the way is clear the automated \oice says the name of the street and will let
you know it's okay to cross; for example. "State Street walk sign is on to cross State
Street."
"That message is continually repeated as long as the \%alk signal is showing.
When the walk signal goes off then that message goes off," says Rick Ball \ ith the
city's traffic engineering department.
Once traffic begins to move again a series of beeps would sound to caution
the pedestrian from crossing. A raised arrow on the push button also points in the
direction of the crosswalk.
Six intersections near the Hemming Plaza area would receive the first install-
ments.
"It's not going to be something that's going to solve all the traffic issues that
someone with a vision impairment has but it can be an added tool," O'Connor says.
Each intersection would cost around $5,000-$6,000 for the equipment. The
Automated systems will be installed around the end of February and beginning of
March. -

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Police say they aren't sure whether the remains spot-
ted behind a home in Arlington came from an animal or a human.
The remains were found Wednesday evening in a marshy, wooded area near
Los Santos Way and Matanzas Way.
"As you can tell, it's dark out here. It's a little hard to tell just what we've got.
But, they have found something back there. At this point, we really don't know what,"
said Dwain Senterfitt, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief of Detectives.
Police say some folks doing work in the neighborhood spotted the remains
behind a house that backs up to the river. It's not clear if they're from an animal or a
person.
Police won't go near the remains at night, but they say those workers did.
"The people that first found this -- moved part of it," Senterfitt said.
That created a second scene a few blocks away for investigators to study.
"They need to be sort of meticulous about what they do in case it does turn out that
it's human. And that if there's any possible criminal activity involved, we obviously
want to preserve that," Senterfitt said.
Eventually, investigators rolled out for the night with no answers yet. It will
be a while before we know exactly what's behind the house. Police say they'll have
to wait until daybreak before they can get out into the wooded area where it was
found..

The D.A.'s office recently created the. .-I
program, which lets defendants choose an
alternative punishment proposed by the D.A. I .S, Tr t
instead of a traditional sentence. Wednesday .Po i;
the first convicted criminal to choose this ;
program walked out of jail time on Watson I
Boule vard in Wamrer Robins. .. ,
"I think that's great, I love that, that is ..,'
awesome, I meah that is actually a punish- i l n. .ot ,
ment that could be a deterrent, I think it's ter- I .
rific," said Penny Turtle, onlooker.
Houston County Assistant District Attorney Jason Ashford says Breuwet lied
to police when he reported he was robbed in the Books-A-Million parking lot in
August.
He adds Breuwet is convicted of false statements and writings as well as false
report ofa crime. The possible penalties range from five years probation to five years
in prison. The PRP is a pre-trial diversion order.

SUNS ANNOUNCE COA CHING STAFF FOR 2007 City of Jacksonville Unveils New Negro League Statue

Jacksonville, FL The Los Angeles
Dodgers announced the on-field coaching
staff for the 2007 edition of the
Jacksonville Suns. John Shoemaker will
return for his third consecutive season,
and fourth overall, as the Suns manager,
Danny Darwin returns for his second sea-
son as Suns Pitching Coach and Luis
Salazar will join the team as hitting coach.
Yosuke 'Possum' Nakajima will join the
Suns as the team's athletic trainer in 2007.
John Shoemaker has quickly become
John Shoemaker one of the most fan-friendly and popular
managers in Suns history and can easily be
mentioned in the same breath as the legendary Ben Geraghty as one of Jacksonville's
all-time greats. He originally managed the team to a Southern League co-champi-
onship in 2001 while being named Manager of the Year. He returned to Jacksonville
in 2005, taking the Suns to the title once again while earning Minor League Team of
the Year honors as well. In 2006, "Shoe's" team once again made the playoffs, tying
a team record with 86 regular season wins and earning his second Southern League
Manager of the Year honors. He also achieved a career milestone in 2006, winning
his 1,000th game as a manager.
Shoemaker, 50, served as the Dodgers' assistant minor league field coordina-
tor in 2004 and managed the team's Class AAA affiliate in Las Vegas in 2003. He
has worked in the Dodgers' minor leagues for 29 years, as a player, manager and
defensive instructor. In his 16 seasons as a minor league manager, Shoemaker has
posted a 1020-993 (.507) record and has won three league championships while
reaching five league finals. In his three seasons with the Suns, he has managed the
team to a combined 254-172 record, giving him the highest career winning percent-
age of any Jacksonville skipper in the SL era. The Vero Beach, Fla. resident played
baseball and basketball at Miami (Ohio) University and was drafted in the sixth
round of the 1978 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls.
Danny Darwin returns to the Suns as pitching coach for the upcoming sea-
son.
Darwin, 51, spent 21 years as a big league pitcher, appearing in 716 games,
which ranks 62nd on the all-time Major League list. He led the National League
with a 2.21 ERA in 1990 when he went 11-4 for the Houston Astros. Darwin won a
career-high 15 games while pitching for Boston in 1993 and finished his career with
a 171-182 record.
Luis Salazar will enter his first season with the Suns in 2007. A 13-year
Major League veteran, Salazar spent the last two seasons as the manager of the Vero
Beach Dodgers (Single-AAdvanced) of the Florida State League. Prior to his stint in
Vero Beach, he spent three seasons at the helm of the Gulf Coast League Dodgers.
An infielder/outfielder in the majors, Salazar spent time with the San Diego Padres,
Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs. He played every position
except catcher during his big-league career. He was a member of the National
League Champion San Diego Padres in 1984 and the NL Eastern Division Champion
Chicago Cubs team in 1989.
"The Dodgers have put together an incredible staff for this year's team," said
Suns President Peter Bragan, Jr. 'Shoe is the best manager the Suns have ever had,
both on the field and off, and having Danny Darwin back and adding Luis Salazar to
work with him give me a lot to look forward to this season. With this staff, I feel con-
fident that we can make it back to the top of the Southern League.
The Jacksonville Suns, the Double-A Southern League affiliate of the Los
Angeles Dodgers, open the 2007 Southern League season on April 5 vs. the
Tennessee Smokies. Season tickets, sponsorships and group tickets for the Suns' 70-
game regular season are currently on sale.

Jags Expect To Have Drew Unsure About Taylor
December 18, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- The
Jacksonville Jaguars expect to have rookie running
back Maurice Drew back in the lineup Sunday
against New England. They're not sure about Fred
Taylor.
Drew and Taylor, the duo that has the Jaguars
ranked second in the league in rushing, were hurt in
Sunday's 24-17 loss at Tennessee. Taylor reinjured
his right hamstring on his second run of the game --
a 35-yard gain in the first quarter -- and did not Maurice Drew-Jones #32 -
return.
Running back.
"The word I got from the training staff was Running back
that he was better (Monday) than he was last week the day after the game," coach
Jack Del Rio said Monday. "It's just a matter of whether or not he'll be able to go this
week or need to wait."
Drew jammed his knee in the fourth quarter on a 37-yard reception. He hob-
bled toward the sideline and was helped off the field. X-rays were.negative.
"The news that I got back was that he was feeling better than anticipated and
that we expected to have him this week, so that wvas good ne'%s," Del Rio said.
Taylor has 1,120 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Drew has 764 yards on
the ground, 379 yards receiving, 731 return yards and 13 total touchdowns.

ssSHHHH!

The

(Aries March 21st thru
April 19th) Holidays
Aside, this is a
weird week for
you, and Mon
and Tue are typi-
cal. Nevertheless, they have
some typical Mon and Tue
traits: slow, quiet, unclear.
Nothing really happens until
Wednesday, which is a
whirling fireball of activity
and light. Thursday is the
same. Expect lots of people,
lots of noise, small adven-
tures, sudden discoveries
and the like. Friday and
Saturday are more staid --
you're focused on money
and how much of it you
have or don't have (the holi-
day season often spurs this
type of thinking). Sunday,
however, is marked by flirt-
ing and ease.
(Taurus- April 20th thru
May 20th) Take the oppor-
tunity, on
Monday and
Tuesday, to con-
sider your goals.
A good time is during holi-
day festivities (or, if you're
not celebrating the holiday,
during the odd quiet ,when
everyone else is). If at all
possible,, the consideration
of 3our goals is a conversa-
tion you should have with
someone. With the first of
the year only a week away,
goals are on everyone's
minds. Wednesday and
Thursday, you're plagued by
indecision and a weird
desire to shop (which is the
last thing you should do).
but Friday and Saturday find
you feeling better than you
have 'in a while. Sunday is
crazy in a great way.
(Gemini May 21st thru
June 21st) It makes sense
that you would
spend the first
part of the week
thrown off (are
you thrown off by the holi-
day season?). Or you may
just be in an abstract state of
mind. It's the time of year
for thinking about your
future and making personal
decisions you might not
' share right away with oth-
ers; some alone time is
probably in the stars.
Nevertheless, Wednesday
and Thursday your friends
would love to know what,
you're thinking, and talking
about it might feel very
good. Friday and Saturday
you get a flurry of late holi-
day cards. Or you send
some. Communication is a
major theme on Sunday, too.
(Cancer June 22nd
thru July 22nd) You have
no head for
details on
..... Monda\ and
Tuesday. The
holiday has likely turned:
your brain into something
resembling scrambled egg.
Chances are high that you'll
say something very pedes-
trian and someone will
wildly misunderstand it.
Wednesday and Thursday
are challenging in the com-
munication department as
well. What's up? It's weird!
Stick to the facts, speak
carefully and avoid the eas-
ily misunderstood issue of
emotions at all costs. Do
this at least until Friday or

Saturday. A party appears at
the end of the week, and it
will be entirely pleasant, dr
- even inspiring.

(Leo July 23rd thru
August 22) Spirits -- and
L tensions -- are
high on Monday,
and someone
might say some-
thing in another room that
sounds to you like some-
thing else. That could cause
you to respond badly. You
might even fly off the han-
dle. It's in the stars.
Forewarned is forearmed.
Tuesday is the same way.
You aren't yourself until
Wednesday and Thursday,
when, true to form, you're
able to see everyone for their
personal strengths, and you
can have a good time any-
where. Friday and Saturday,
your plans for a New Year's
celebration are taking shape
and you're starting to feel a
bit glamorous. A party fig-
ures on Sunday. No kidding.
(Virgo August 23rd
thru September 22nd)
SThe best thing
you can give peo-
Sple'on Monday
and Tuesday isn't
gifts or money or. anything
material, but total respect.
Provide them with all the
space they need and all the
sympathy you'd want. The
urge to be critical comes
from a good place, but it
inevitably comes out sound-
ing sour and dark. The same
holds true Wednesday and
Thursday, when you literally
won't have anything to give
people' except your respect
(resources will be tight).
Friday and Saturda\ see a
loosening of the cosmic
purse strings. On Sunday. in
a social situation, put your
energy toward communicat-
ing well.
(Libra September 23rd
thru October 22nd) As
much as you're
trained by the
world at large to
se the holiday at
the start of the week in broad
(and very commercial)
terms, you'll be much happi-
er if you, notice its smaller
aspects. Even just having the
day off is a beautiful thing.
A day to do whatever you
like! The rest of the week,
leading up to the New Year,
is entirely within your
hands. Focus on people
other human beings.
Everything else will take
care of itself. Friday and
Saturday, indulgence is in
the stars, but watch out. You
run the risk of going over-
board, and you want to save
going overboard for Sunday.
(Scorpio October 23rd
thru November 21st) It's
no wonder that
your mind is a
S, loose collection
of images and
feelings at the start of the
week -- the dreamy quality
of the holiday does that. You
have a hard time separating
real life and fantasy at this
time, which isn't a bad thing.
It could become bad, how-
ever, in the middle of the
week, when you have some
serious things to get done.
Going for a jog might wake
you up a bit to physical real-
ity. Toward the end of the
week (Friday and Saturday
especially), you will likely
go head-to-head with some-
one over something you

don't consider a big deal. It's
possible that the year com-
ing to a close is stressing
pec le out.

(Sagittarius November
22nd thru December 21st)
The holiday sea-
son leaves you
w without a penny in
Sour pocket at the
start of the week. It happens
to everyone this time of
year, but that doesn't make it
less annoying. Plus, you're
in'a serious looking-back-
on-your-life mode, which
- also happens to everyone.
By the middle of the week,
you are fully focused on the
future: You're having fun
thinking about all the stuff
you want to get done in the
coming year. Romance
enlivens ThurSday, but Fri
and Sat are almost entirely
filled with tasks -- things
you need to get done so you
can have a great New Year's
celebration. Expect a philo-
sophical Sunday.
(Capricorn December-
22nd thru January 19th)
Giving a card to
someone at the
start of the week
may mean a lot
more to them than giving a
nicely wrapped gift would.
You have a talent for
expressing yourself in writ-
ing, and someone's in the
mood to be the subject of
that expression. Wed and
ThurSday, as much as you
feel like you should be get-
ting excited about the New
Year, you find ,yourself
oddly worried. You're cling-
ing to this year with all of
your might. Thankfully, this
is a passing thing. Fri and
Sat are good, happy days. If
you can spend the weekend
in nature somewhere, that
would be fantastic for you.
(Aquarius-January 20th
thru February 18th)
Well. you're out
of money. That's
your first
thought once the
holiday season inds down
and you begin thinking
about the rest of the week.
That's okay. E erynone else
is out of money, too. (Well,
not everyone. If you need to
borrow some, don't feel bad
about asking.) Wed and
ThurSday are brilliant illus-
trations of all that life has to
offer that isn't related to
money whatsoever. You feel
freer than you have in a
while. Paradoxically, you
feel more connected to oth-
ers. Fri and Sat find you
bogged down for Various
reasons, but on Sunday you
have someone to kiss as the
clock strikes midnight.
(Pieces February 19th
and March 20th), The
close of the holi-
day season treats
S you well. If you
aren't showered
with gifts from other peo-
ple, shower yourself in
gifts. Really get into it or
get your engines going on
a .new creative project. On
Tue you have energy to
burn. Wed and ThurSday
are all over the place it's
likely that the coming New
Year is affecting your out-
look in ways you don't
realize (you're simply con-
fused about everything).
Fri and Sat, sending cards
to friends and family gives
order to your thoughts. On

Sun, if you don't feel like
going to a party, by all
means, do your own thing.

NOTLOVING ENOUGH- FEW of Sutton Park Drive called JSO because she said
her boyfriend, JD grabbed her around her neck and choked her. She said that JD
also punched her with a closed fist wherein she sustained a swollen left eye.
According to FEW, she and JD got into an argument when he told her that she does
not show him enough affection.
In the beginning, they argued but then he became upset and started the physical
confrontation where he hit heron her face. When the officers arrived, JD admitted
that he started the fight and struck her in her face. He said that he also pushed her
and that he was sorry but, they have had problems the past months. He was taken
to jail and she was issued the Domestic Violence paperwork.
CLUB FIGHT LEADS TO THE SHOOTING -- It all started at a club on Adams
Street when two men got into an argument. The victim, JMS and suspect, whose
name is not known, got into a confrontation while at The Real Ting Cafe. Because
they were arguing, they were escorted out of the club, according to witness. JS, the
victim, said that he and a witness were walking west in the 200 block of West
Adams on the sidewalk, enroute to their car when the suspect, which was the same
man he had had the disagreement with inside of the club, stepped out from behind
a building at the corner of Julia and West Adams Street, and started shooting at the
victim, JMS, with a chrome semi automatic handgun. After shooting a few rounds,
the suspect got into the passenger side of a vehicle as the car fled southbound on
Julia. The victim, JS, realized that he had been shot in his' left leg. When
Jacksonville's Sheriff's officers arrived, they found JS laying on the sidewalk with
blood coming from his leg. JS explained to the officers what had happened as they
searched the neighbor hood. One witness said that she was in the club during the
argument. She also stated that the suspect is a former classmate but she is unable
to remember his name and so, the search continues for the shooter.
HE FOUGHT UNTIL HE WAS LOCKED UP-- LDG called for an officer to come
to the 9500 block of 103rd Street because her husband and father of her children had
physically abused her while she was trying to comb their daughter's hair.
According to the 6-year-old victim, AG, her mother was combing the tangles out
of her hair when she started crying because it was hurting. At that point, her father,
who had recently moved back with them, jumped on top of her mother and starting
pulling on her hair, shouting, "How do you like it?"
The suspect, CLG was contacted and when the officer asked him for his driver's
license, according to the officer, he just sat on top of the hood of a car and began
staring "a 1000 yard stare." The officer asked him severaltimes for his identifica-
tion and he refused to answer. The suspect then stood up and attempted to walk
between the two officers. At this point, he was handcuffed. Once handcuffed, CLG
began to resist by walking away pulling both officers with him. CLG was then
wrestled to the ground as he continued to try to stand up while both officers were
holding him. One of the officers gave the suspect, a clear command to calm down
and to stop trying to get up. The officers called for back up, support and the suspect
continued to try to get up.
The suspect. CLG is about 6'4" and weights about 300 pounds at 27 years of age.
After several attempts to get the suspect to calm down, one officer gave a loud
warning "Taser, Taser." The officers gave the victim, three warnings and used the
taser gun three times. Each time when they warned him, they used the taser on him
and he would not cooperate. After dry stunning the suspect and giving the same
command. one officer finally said, this will not work. After several loud and clear
commands.to calm down and stop resisting, the suspect was eventually placed in a
Hobble position. However, CG continued to kick and bite at the officers. He
would not get into the police vehicle and would continuously
kick and bite at the officers, and lock out his joints so that the door would not close.
Once they were able to get him into the car and on the back seat CG was taken to
the jail where he had to be physically removed since it was observed that he had
"super human strength). The victim refused to cooperate with the officers.
MAN TRIED TO CASH A COUNTERFEIT CHECK-- DJ went to Banner Food
Store on Cleveland Road in an effort to cash a check. Management recognized the
check as a counterfeit check and immediately called JSO. DJ advised that he
worked for a company on Phillips Highway and they paid him with the check. He
therefore provided a valid ID and was very cooperative when he was taken to JSO
for questioning where he later advised that he had been approached by a young
black female who said she would give him $70.00 to cash the check. He said the
female was with a black male accomplice and that he had talked with the man when
he was looking for the female. The female advised him that she would meet him
outside of Banner's to get her share of the money once the check was cashed. DJ
said-that he tried to follow through with getting the check cashed because he need-
ed the extra money to get his girl friend out of jail.
After the interview with the detective, DJ was arrested.

The Dreamgirls Beverly Hills Premiere Sold The Sizzle But

Not The Steak
By Rych McCain,
feedbackrych@
sbcglobal. net
The hype had been
building for weeks:
Press and fans alike
were jockeying for
position. Premiere
tickets were the hottest
item in town. The film
was swirling with
"Oscar Buzz." Who
was going to shine the
most, Beyonce or new
comer Jennifer
Hudson, fresh off of
"American Idol?
Would the film match
or equal the fire, sold
out status and popular-
ity of the phenomenal,
original Broadway
stage play? Would the
actors and singing
measure up as well?
You'll have to read my
WASSUP IN HOLLY-
HOOD review to read
my take on those ques-
tions. However, the
Beverly Hills Premiere
of DREAMGIRLS
basically sold the "siz-
zle" but not the steak!
.My first observa-
tion was that the cast
was not unified at all
the entire night. This
leads me to believe

that either the publicity
people failed to coordi-
nate the appearance of
cast unity or there had
been friction on the set
that carried over. None
of the principals posed
together for a group
photo which is an
uncommon occurrence
on red carpets. Beyonce
and Jamie Foxx did
make a couple of poses
together. Eddie did his
entrance separate and
individually with his
new fling Tracie
Edmonds (Baby Face's
ex). Jennifer Hudson
came down solo as did
the other dreams and
cast members. We of the
press were asking
Beyonce and Jennifer
about the friction
rumors and both were
professionally gracious
to deny and side step the
issue. This reporter
never saw either lady
embrace or hug or even
come in contact with
each other on the carpet.
In fact, my sources said
Beyonce walked the

inside the theater, she
slipped out of a side
door and left. There was

no after party to boot!
The other main point
was the lack of superstar
support. If a film has a
serious Oscar chance,
the heavy-hitters will
show up in droves to see
and be seen while cash-
ing in on the publicity
and photo ops. A perfect
example was the red
carpet for the film RAY,
(which we covered for
you), when Jamie Foxx
and the film were in
serious contention for
the ultimate prize. That
carpet was crawling

talent! This didn't hap-

SThis movie does
capture the look and
feel of the Motown era
of the 1960s and early
1970s. Back then,
entertainers dressed- to
the hilt and looked like

pen with DREAM-
GIRLS! So is there a
message here that
Oscar night (if it hap-
pens), won't be what
we have been hyped to
expect it to be?
The stars who did
show up were looking
beautiful as always.
The onlookers across
the street on Wilshire
Boulevard kept the
spirit of the chilly night
up by screaming and
yelling to their favorite
personalities.

Whassup continued from D-1
and stomped real good.
Hopefully, this movie
might inspire a return to
glamour amongst our
black youth.
Even though
Beyonce was as
.superfine and glain-
orous as she has ever
been (to the men's
delight), she was clearly
not the main star. Infact,
she was in the back-
ground throughout most
of the flick until her
character (Deena Jones)
was put out front. On
the other hand, Jennifer

Hudson (Effie White)
sang her can off but her
acting is not Oscar cal-
iber yet. She was a real
singer, playing a singer.
She will have to devel-
op a varying body of
work to really become
legit. Eddie Murphy
was a bit flat as a seri-
ous actor. He wasn't
funny, which is a plus,
because he wasn't sup-
posed to be. Jamie Foxx
was an OK Berry Gordy
type but he was no way
near on the mark like he
- was in Ray.
Sharon Davis stole

the show with those
incredibly, breath taking
gowns she designed for
the girls. The best
wardrobe design Oscar
should be a slam dunk
for her is justice is
served. This is the one
undeniable awards cate-
gory for this film. The
music was top of the
line as well It doesn't
get any better than this.
Henry Krieger's origi-
nal score mixed with
the updated sound track
from The Underdogs
(Harvey Mason, Jr. and
Damon Thomas), kept

the film jumping from
beginning to end.
Danny Glover (Marty),
Keith Robinson (Effie's
brother) and Jaleel
(very much alive) White
(the Apollo back stage
manager), all had excel-
lent supporting per-
formances.
Whereas Dreangirls
does not live up to all of
the hype, it is an enjoy-
able movie and worth
seeing. You will be
moved by the music and
the ambiance of the 60's
i.e., the conked hair,
sharkskin and contenital-

suites, the tight skirts,
big hair bouffant wigs,
the Cadillacs and the
whole nine yards.
