8-year-old Gitrus Springs girl land- recording contract; preps for

release ofdebut song
Kayla was just a youngster (younger
than 8, anyway) when she started
singing at school, in church and at
home.
At a family party in December 2006,
Kayla sang. In attendance was a
woman whose niece is married to a
music producer in the Philippines.
The woman told the man about the lit-
tle girl with the amazing voice.
Dumon said the man called one day
to suggest Kayla record a few songs
with just a piano accompaniment.
Kayla did that at a Crystal River
recording studio, and her father sent
the disc to the man in the Philippines.
The man suggested that Dumon

It's not possible.
No way the voice belting out lyricS
written by a Grammy Award winner
are coming from tiny Kayla Dumon.
Yes way.
The 8-year-old Citrus Springs girl, a
third-grader at Pope John Paul II
Catholic School, is shy to the bone.
Yet, through a yearlong, seemingly
disconnected set of circumstances,
young Kayla has a recording contract
with a San Francisco music producer,
a video in the works and a Web site
ready for viewing and hearing.
She's also getting acting lessons in

Ocala from Joseph Fatone -father of
Joey Fatone, member of the boy band
*NSYNC.
If Kayla's bragging, she's keeping it
to herself. During a break from shoot-
ing a video at a home in Crystal River
on Wednesday, an interview with
Kayla went something like this:
Question: So, how long have you

songs?
Kayla: (Silence).
Question: Do you get embarrassed
sometimes when you hear your own
voice?
Kayla: (Slight smile). "Sometimes."
Her father, Armi Dumon, does most
of the talking,
- "I can't really explain this," he said,
According to Dumon, this is the
sequence of his daughter's unlikely
entry into a singing career:

O

My father always said, Son the world will always be happy to take your money". As I have grown I have become
very jaded of the world we live in. We pay outrageous rates for things like gas, insurance, utilities and cable TV If
you live in Florida your cable rates are among some of the highest in the country. After the recent rate
increase in most Florida counties, cable subscribers are paying about $ 55.00 per month for about 65 channels of
plain old over priced garbage. Did you know that 80% of what you pay for on cable you never watch? It may be
time to make a change. Few offers make sense and most are too good to be true however what you will see offered to
many Florida county cable subscribers over the next few months is nothing short of a cable revolution. This is the
deal that no cable company wants to talk about. This is the future of pay TV. ~ Brian Stevens noted author and TV critic

Have you ever asked yourself: When will a pay TV provider offer consumers an
al carte type package of channels that is entertaining and affordable?"
One call does it all 1-888-851-7283

Obviously the sheriffs office
was to target the vandals and
patrol problem areas. When citi-
zens assist with crime watches,
community alerts and citizen
patrols, that helps deter vandal-
ism and catch perpetrators.
Sheriff Jeff Dawsy said he is
sure the recent damage was
done by young people and his
investigators are actively pursu-
ing the vandals.
Next, the community has to
work with investigators to help
identify the vandals. "Somebody

Then, the parents in the com-
munity have to ask themselves
what young people are doing out
late at night. As Dawsy told the
Chronicle this past week,
"Vandalism is a crime of oppor-
tunity." If the young people had-
n't been out roaming in the early
morning hours, that particular
vandalism wouldn't have
occurred.
But moreover,

must be identified and stopped.
Most of the youngsters in the
community would never do such
destructive things. Young people
who do them for the perverse
pleasure of it or for the attention
must be identified. If their prob-

first they need to be stopped and
punished.
It takes a community working
with authorities, accountable

make the difference between a
pleasant community and a bad
