Despite federal judge's ruling, Chipley

CHIPLEY-The recent rul-
ing of a federal judge that
the National Day of Prayer
was unconstitutional did
not appear to deter local

organizers. The annual
NDOP was celebrated by
a large crowd at the Wash-
ington County Courthouse
on Thursday. The Chipley
Ministerial Association
sponsored the event.
On the NDOP prayer is
offered for a variety of orga-

nizations, including state,
local and national govern-
ment; emergency services
and others. The Chipley
event was no exception,
and the court ruling was
addressed by one of the
speakers.

SPECIAL TO THE NEWS
The 2010 Washington
County Relay For Life will be
held on May 14 and 15. The
18-hour event will begin at 6
p.m. on May 14. The event will
be held at Pas Park and there
will be convenient handicap
parking on Rustin Drive.
The philosophy behind the
18-hour event is simple. It is
about empathy, understand-
ing and learning from peo-
ple with cancer who don't
have the luxury of escaping
their sickness, even for one
night.
A new addition to the
luminary ceremony will
be a slide show, which will
honor the true relay for
life heroes those who
have or are currently bat-
tling cancer. To do this, a
special display is being pre-
pared for this year's event.
To contribute to the side
show, provide the name and
picture of someone you want
to honor. Please e-mail infor-
mation to annieoakley7810@
