A Columbia County motor-
cyclist was critically injured
in a Thursday morning wreck
when his motorcycle ran off
the road, struck a fence and
collided with a tree.
Robert D. Edwards, 48, of
Lake City, was taken by heli-
copter to the Shands Hospital
at the University of Florida
with injuries he suffered in the
wreck. No additional informa-
tion about Edwards' condition
has been released.
The wreck occurred 5 a.m.
on Koonville Road, about five
miles west of Lake City.
According to Florida
Highway Patrol reports,
Edwards was riding a 2005
Harley Davidson motorcycle
southbound on Koonville Road
when he failed to go around a
right-handed curve and the
motorcycle traveled south off
the roadway. The motorcycle
went down on its right side
and slid into a fence on pri-
vate property on the eastern
edge of the road's northbound
right-of-way.
When the motorcycle struck
a tree, Edwards was thrown
approximately 25 feet and the
bike ended up on its left side
facing east.
Columbia County EMS,para-
medics provided advanced life
support for Edwards until he
was flown to Shands Hospital
at the University of Florida.
Charges related to the wreck
are pending further investiga-
tion by the Florida Highway
Patrol.

but by Friday night's end, all of
the students had one thing in.
common - they were all
graduates of Columbia High School.
More than 400 CHS seniors took their
final walk at Tiger Stadium as "Pomp and
Circumstance" filled the air and family,
relatives and friends cheered them on for a
job well done.
'Though our high school journey ends
tonight, each and every one of us have
formed memories that will last a lifetime,"
Danielle McRae, the class salutatorian, told
her classmates during her speech. "Our
past experiences have molded each of us
into what we are today."
Valedictorian Katie Reichert said that as
each senior stepped across the stage Friday
night, they were stepping into the future.
'Tonight we write the first lines of that
future," she said.
Reichert also challenged each graduating
senior.
"I dare you to impact someone's life so
that it will forever be brighter," she said.
'To reach out and help the less fortunate
... to take part in the decisions of today ...
and to never forget your high school years,
because they have shaped us into the
young adults we are tonight."
Principal Terry Huddleston was
complimentary of the graduating 2007-2008
senior class, commending students for
their hard work and dedication.
"This class was a strong senior class with
tremendous leadership," he said.

First responders honored for life-saving actions

From staff reports

Several Columbia County
first responders were recently
recognized for their timely
actions in extricating and
saving two people who were
trapped in a wrecked vehicle.
TNT Extrication Company,
a company which produces
emergency, hydraulic rescue
tools presented Columbia
County emergency respond-
ers with the Golden Cutter
Award.
Columbia County Fire
Department Assistant Chief
Jim Cason noted the award
is rarely given. He said the
award was given to Columbia
County EMS paramedics
and Columbia County Fire
Department firefighters
because they responded to an
accident on the interstate last
year -that was considered a
remarkable extrication.
The rescue workers were
recognized for their response
and life-saving actions stem-
ming from a truck involved in
a wreck at high speeds.
Cason said the vehicle was
a Ford F-350 with oversized
tires which had a front, right

said. "The roof was damaged
and the firewall.and floor-
boards were crushed to a
point that the lower extremi-
ties of at least one occupant
were entrapped."
Cason said every attempt
to remove the objects caus-
ing the entrapment from the
occupant's lower extremities
failed and emergency crews
decided to move the seat back
to move the patient away from
the entangled metal, which
was successful.

worse," Cason said.
The extrication took approx-
imately 35 minutes from the
first arriving emergency unit
and the victims were expected
to make full recoveries from
their injuries.
"It should also be men-
tioned that the TNT Rescue
tools used for this extrication
were on loan from Southern
Rescue Tools LLC. and great-
ly contributed to the success
of the responders," Cason
said. 'The Columbia County

County firefighters Arness

Herndon, Adam McCook,

seniors were excited about
graduation.
"It feels like a journey com-

all worth it"
Many of the seniors will part
ways after graduation, some
going into the workforce,
some attending college locally
and some heading off to big-
ger universities. Townsend
said he plans on attending
Furmai University to study-
ing engineering, senior Joshua
Smith said he has intentions
to attend Santa Fe Community
College to study aviation

Five years has passed since you left us.
No farewells were spoken, no time to
say goodbye. You were gone before we
knew it and only God knows why. Some
loved ones come into our lives and
quickly go, some stay awhile and leave
footprints on our hearts, and we are
never the same. We were so blessed to
have you in our lives for those short 24
years, and are left with many wonderful
memories. We still look for you to walk
through the door and brighten our day
with that quick wit, that sense ofhumor
and your beautiful smile. There is not
a day that goes by that we don ' think
of you. You areforever in our hearts,
and will always be loved and missed

concerning
L -I the gospel,
"God's power to salvation,"
the apostle Paul gives a
doxology to the saints. These
verses (Romans 11:33-36)
of praise to God speak of
several of His qualities.
Paul begins by using
the word "oh," a word to
express great emotions and
feelings. He wants the Jews
and Gentiles to know his
deepest admoration for the
qualities of God.
He mentions "the depth"
of God's riches, wisdom
and knowledge (Romans
11:33). He is speaking
of how plentiful are the
resources of God to bring
about salvation to Jews
as well as Gentiles. He
speaks of the vastness of
God's knowledge and the
enormity of His wisdom.
When Paul considered
all the decisions that God
had to make in order to
bring about the salvation
of mankind they are
"unsearchable." They are
too numerous to count The
different "paths" that God
had to take to bring about
this act of grace for mankind
was "unfathomable."
By asking two rhetorical
questions, Paul points out
that God did not need a
"counselor" when it came
to devising man's salvation.
Neither was there anyone
qualified to understand "the
mind of the Lord" to the
point they could advise Him.
Before time began, there
was no one who could give
something to God in which
He had to make repayment
(Romans 11:35). Since time
has begun there remains
no one who can provide
the resources God needs to
accomplish this great task
of saving mankind from
transgressing His law.
Paul's final words of
praise speak of the fact that
"all things" are "from Him
and through Him and to
Him." Everything originated
"from" God. He created
everything that we see. He
has provided everything
that we need or want. It is
"through Him," through
His power, His wisdom, His
knowledge that everything
moves (cf. Acts 17:28).
And it is "to Him" that
everything is to give glory
and honor. "All things"
are for His benefit and
enjoyment, especially those
who have taken advantage
of the opportunity to have
their sins forgiven and be
saved from their sins.
This "glory" to God will
last "forever." It will never
come to an end. There will
never be a time when it will
cease.
A being, who has
everything, knows everything,
executes everything to
perfection, should be called
God. A being with these
qualities should be praised.

Site:West Allis,Wis.
Schedule: Today, qualifying, 4:45 p.m.;
Sunday, race (ABC, 4 p.m.).
Track: The Milwaukee Mile (oval, 1.032
miles, 9 degrees banking in turns).
Race distance: 225 miles, 225 laps.
Last race: Speeding back to the track after
the final round of stops, Scott Dixon came out
ahead ofVitor Meira and pulled away over the
final 29 laps to capture his first Indianapolis
500 victory, holding off Marco Andretti. The
27-year-old New Zealander started from
the pole and stayed ahead of all the trouble,
leading more laps than everyone else
combined on a day when yellow was the
predominant color, coming out eight times to
slow up more than a third of the race.
Last year: Tony Kanaan recorded his
second straight win at The Milwaukee Mile.
Helio Castroneves, who started from the pole
and led several times, had an almost certain
victory snatched away when his rear wing
collapsed and he crashed with 25 laps to go.
Fast facts: Danica Patrick and Dan
Wheldon had a brief confrontation at the end
of last year's race after bumping wheels on
lap 88, sending Patick sliding into the infield.
The two had a brief one-sided discussion in
the pits, with Patrick putting her arm around
Wheldon as she talked with him and then
giving him a half-shove as the Englishman
walked away. ... Patrick failed to finish for
the first time in four trips to Indy after she
was banged on pit road by Ryan Briscoe
with 29 laps to go.... Ryan Hunter-Reay was
selected the Indy 500's rookie of the year. The
27-year-old driver for Rahal Letterman Racing
started 20th and finished a season-best sixth.
He had seventh-place runs in the opener at
Homestead, and last month in Japan.... Helio
Castroneves has started among the top five in
all four of his starts at Milwaukee, but his best
finish was 12th.
Next race: Bombardier Learjet 550,June 7,
Fort Worth,Texas
