I believe, really believe, that your crying the blues
because you received an electric bill from the

Jacksonville Electric Authority and the personnel in

government quarters didn't (means) a hint of jealousyis V\fs\t\k

showing through. You pay. We don't. \

I've been a resident of NAS Jax government quartersfor

the past two years, during which time conservationhas

been an obligation for myself and most of my neigh

the conservation effort were the folks living in

government quarters": Unless you patrol the quartersin

the middle of the night to check on porch lights and

peep at everyone's thermostat, 1 don't go along with

your basis. P

Insofar as your statement of consolidating trash pick-

up points, unless the Navy sets up a dump in the middleof

the housing area, I still have the obligation of settingmy

trash out in front of my quarters twice a week, whichI

don't think too extravagant for sanitary purposes.As .

to the maintenance of said quarters: when you
Atlantic Fleet, signs a proclamation declaring this week as International Credit Union Week aboard

:Marine Attack Squadron (VMAM42) covered I
thousands of miles of ground and air during their recent
Annual Training Duty, but their trip ended exactly
where it began-at NAS Jax.
The 250 combat ready Marines worked around the
clock on a three-shift schedule.
According to LtCol. Frank R. Pound, Jr., thesquadron's -::: iL j
commanding officer, "The young citizen _- "
Marines of VMA-142 are more technically skilled, more
highly motivated and harder working than those of 20 ; :
years ago. L
"This hard work and dedication produced perhaps the
most successful ATD ever for this squadron." :$
Colonel Pound feels that the "Flying Gators" are
ready to answer any military call and are the strongest T'-
he has witnessed in his 22 year association' with the ___:
reserve program.
During the two weeks of extensive training, VMA-142 ,
concentrated on air-to-ground ordnance deliveries,
utilizing a variety of weapons. GETTING IT ON-Members of VMA-142's Ordnance Shop use teamwork to prepare an A-4 for take- I

MARTD, a regular unit here, assisted the "Flying __off.____h_
Gators" in the successful summer operations. .. :-: :: ;i, '1_', '

VMA-142 ended its annual training with a field meet -';..' 111"i..f-'< ,, / ...'..'', ",/' ,,";>" '\.l''\
against their friendly foes from MARTD. Last year's J',:/ ''$.i.r',;, ':
meet ended in a 52-52 tie, but this year the "Flying ..,., 1 r
Gators" came out on top, 6551. sF ;

Florida's only Marine Reserve Squadron, VMA-142 I
became the first Marine Reserve Jet Squadron to
become carrier qualified back in 1971. Last year the
squadron broke all records in total ordnance delivered.
VMA-142 is made up of Reserve Marines from
throughout the Southeastern United States who train one
weekend each month and two full weeks annually to
keep current in Marine Corps air-ground team concepts.
The '"Gators" hold numerous safety awards, in- Q
cluding the country's first 10-year() accident-free trophy.
VMA-142 flys the McDonnell-Douglas A-4L, a first line
Marine Corps jet attack aircraft.

earliest Christmas stamps of the year on Sept. 23. The 4,10,25 and 35
' cent items show typical gifts of the season here: toy canoe, toy windmill .
ATTENTION coconut ball, and boats. Each stamp has a small sailing canoe
with the star of Bethlehem overhead. On the 25 cent stamp, the three
wisemen are symbolized by three canoes gliding over the waves

The postponement will bring one big change of events and that is the
fact that last week in a race held up north the boat "Pride of Pay-n- '>
Pack" won the National Championship with Miss Budweiser finishing :.
