I Idea reaps $820 award for NAJtiF employee

....
By Doris M. Card NARF PAO
Jax Working in his: bench in NARF's Rotating Electric Shop, aircraft elec
trician Billy Patterson was toying with a new idea. Because he felt his idea was

worth documenting and submitting as a beneficial suggestion, Mr. Patterson is
'
now $820 richer.
The magneto Mr. Patterson was overhauling needed a new flange, a part which
a had become expensive to replace and was now in short supply. Trying to

determine how the needed part could be obtained quickly to avoid production

interruption, Mr. Patterson remembered that magnetos slated for salvage had
parts interchangeable with those on which he was working.
Rather than disposing of the used magnetos, would it not be possible to have

them routed to the shop to recover usable parts for new overhauls? His supervisor -
agreed with the idea and it was proposed as a beneficial suggestion. In-

vestigation proved that the idea was a cost-saving alternative to disposal and the

procedure is now used, projected to save the government$24,000 annually.
More than $53,000 in savings have resulted from beneficial suggestions since

.V NARF launched its Project S-A-V-E in July.

Award money to employees during the ,same period has passed the $3,200
mark, with many more suggestions in the mill.
