This program was established in 1964 to provide a highly select
group of young Americans with the experience of direct and personal
involvement in the governmental process.
In addition to their duties as Special Assistants to either Cabinet
members the Vice President the White House Staff or other top of.
? ficials in the Executive Branch,White House Fellows participate in an
a : educational program exploring government procedures.

Military personnel selected as White House Fellows serve in this
capacity for one year and remain on active duty status, receiving full
pay and allowances.

The outdoor cooking season is still in full swing and we have
come up with a recipe this week that is just what the outdoor cook
needs when the thundershowers move in.
This recipe is compliments of Miss Pat Crosby of the Word
Processing Center, but she in turn gives credit for the recipe to her .

Oven Bar-B-Que Chicken

Cut two 2V4 to 3 pound fryers in half lengthwise and arrange in a
single layer, skin side up in roasting pan. Sprinkle with salt and
pepper. Add just enough hot water to cover bottom of pan. Peel three
medium sized onions, slice thinkand place over top of fryers; tuck a ,&
slice under each wing. Place in heated 350 degree oven uncovered and MiS
bake 30 minutes.Turn fryers skin side down and cook for an additional
30 minutes.

Make a Bar-B-Que sauce of the following ingredients:
1& cups tomato juice .
Vi teaspoon cayenne pepper

2 teaspoons salty '

V4 teaspoon powdered mustard .' ,. I A
4Vfc teaspoons Worcestershire sauce ;

it's finally happened. I have always been worried that
some of those huge, jumbo-sized new stamp issues might become the
size of postal cards, thus forcing us to write our message on the stamp

Bhutan,a tiny kingdom in the Himalayas, has issued stamps in the
form of miniature 45 rpm phonograph records which sing the national

It's hard to imagine any type conduct more service discrediting than
the writing of bad checks. When just a few checks written by military
people have bounced in a community, the word really gets around. Soon --W: I
none of us can cash a check under any circumstances, and the community R ac _
thinks we're all a bunch of crooks. Naturally,the military service hasa ,er t :
big interest in seeing that this doesn't happen.For _

these reasons, our military law has provided some mighty severe .
penalties for writing worthless checks. If an individual passes a bad e
check with an intention to deceive or defraud,he may be convicted of an 'vb,
offense under Article 123a Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ),
authorizing punishment up to Dishonorable Discharge and confinementat
hard labor for five years, depending on the amount involved. ,

Even if the individual intends to have the money in'his account, but j'::: -
later wrongfully fails to maintain sufficient funds for payment of the
check, he may be guilty of an Article 134 disorder, which authorizes
punishment of a Bad Conduct Discharge and up to six months
confinement.

Many times,check offenses are tried by the civilian authorities,under e
laws which are just as severe. The mere fact that you are presently
overseas does not preclude prosecution upon your return to the States.

Any time a check is returned unpaid, the circumstances are going to
be investigated thoroughly. If it is clearly shown that the check was
