Flight pay bill signed

'Jax-President Nixon has signed into law a Bill which gives pilots
and flight officers a raise in flight pay during their most active years

r of flying.
The Bill is expected to encourage experienced young aviators to
remain in the service. i
In the past,aviation pay started at $100 a month for student aviators
and rose in steps to$245 a month after 18 years. The new plan makes
aviators eligible for the $245 after the sixth year of aviation service.
Pay scales for the first six years of service are basically the same as

the old rates
The Bill also sets certain requirements pilots and flight officers
must meet to receive continuous aviation pay. '
At the end of 12 years of aviation service, they must have had at
least six years of operational flying (including flight training) to
qualify for Aviation Career Incentive Pay (ACIP) for six more years,
i.II # regardless of assignment.At .
the end of 18 years of aviation service, nine years of operational
flying will be required for ACIP through the 22nd year.Eleven years of
flying at the end of 18 years will qualify an individual to

duty military personnel has been increased from $15,000 to $20,000 bya
1.' Bill signed into law May 24.
h } All active duty personnel are automatically covered in the amountof
$20,000 unless they decline participation or elect a lesser amount.
The additional coverage will result in a monthly premium increase,
{ the amount of which has not yet been determined, but which is ex
pected to be less than one dollar extra.
The cost of the$15,000 SGLI coverage is$2.55 a month.
Personnel not desiring the additional coverage will have the op-
portunity to decline it.
D Service academy cadets and midshipmen will also be entitled to the

SGLI increase.
e -':- The law also provides that on Aug. 1 the following new insurance

r benefits will become :
.. /: 1. Ready reservists and National Guard personnel can have up to
$20,000 insurance coverage full time if they perform at least 12 periodsof

2. Ready reservists and National Guard personnel who complete 20

$20,000 coverage until they begin drawing retirement pay or reach the
age of 61, whichever comes first.
+) 3. The SGLI policies of persons on active duty can be converted to a
newly-enacted"Veterans Group Life Insurance"policy 120 days after
their separation or release from active duty.

Jax-VP-56 has completed its participation in"Dawn Patrol 74",a
combined NATO exercise conducted by air and sea forces from
France,Greece,Italy,the United Kingdom and the United States.
VP-56 aircraft from NAF Sigonella, Sicily were used in ASW and
surface surveillance roles in two theatres of operations.The first wasa
simulated amphibious assault staged in Southern Greece and the
second involved support of French, Italian and U.S. Task Groups
located west of the island of Sardinia.

Sloppy Joes
1.1lbs lean ground beef few dashes tabasco
1 tablespoon fat
1 teaspoon salt
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup catchup
1 tablespoon sugar :
Pepper to taste y '
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon vinegar
Brown meat and fat until crumbly; drain off grease.Add remaining .
ingredients to meat and simmer 30 minutes.

Serve over cooked rice or open-faced hamburger or hot dog buns.
Serves six.
