Maloy, new skipper for the "Eagles" of VP-16, ;'rf , led the squadron home to NAS Jax last week after a five-month " deployment to Sigonella, Sicily. Cdr.Maloy relieved Cdr. Ronald G.Castle April 30 and the new XO, Cdr. Charles C. Pease, joined the "Eagles" here. Cdr.Maloy joined VP-16 as Executive Officer last April after a tour of duty on the Staff of Commander,Patrol Wing (COMPATWING) . He and his wife, Marie, have three children, Jennifer, Lisa and Victoria, and live in Orange Park. Cdr.Castle reported to the squadron in February 1972.He served as XO during the first year, which included a five-month Bermuda . deployment,and had been at the helm since last April.He g'M.wt tkf will be joining the COMPATWING 11 Staff as Operations Officer. .-., : Cdr.Castle and his wife, Maurine,live in Green Cove Springs with $ their children, Christopher and Lisa. ' Jacksonville Area Shore Patrol operates as a division of the I 'flfliPI Security Department under the direction of LCdr. Charles A. Taylor, a _ with its Shore Patrol Headquarters located at 350 E. State Street in iiiI downtown Jacksonville, under the direction of Gunnery Sergeant Robert D. Kane. The Jacksonville Area Shore Patrol is assigned that part of Duval County lying north of the St. Johns River and west of the Inland I vt 1r Waterway, plus 24 other Florida counties and three counties in southern Georgia. + r The Shore Patrol does not punish violators of military law, nor does it permit mistreatment or abuse of personnel in its charge. Whenever placed under apprehension for military charges, the in dividual taken to Shore Patrol headquarters, advised of his rights, searched and detained while a report is prepared and his duty officeris notified of his apprehension. Female offenders are searched only by another woman of appropriate - status. Male apprehending authorites may, if such action is reasonable and proper under existing circumstances,search a female offender's handbag,luggage,coat (after removal)or parcels.As . soon as possible the individual is transported to his or her com- mand and turned over to the duty officer with a handwritten copy of the Shore Patrol report. (1 -i The Shore Patrol visits transportation centers to offer members of _ the Armed Forces assistance and to check for uniform violations. They also check eating establishments offbase at the noon hour for personnel wearing an improper uniform (dungarees). Members of the Armed Forces charged with civil offenses take,up most of the Shore Patrolman's time. Having well coordinated liaison established with the civilian authorities, the Shore Patrol is able to negotiate a face bond for military personnel under civil arrest for misdemeanors when Commanding Officers will guarantee their ap pearance in court. ..RR Personnel selected for Shore Patrol duty today are chosen on the basis of their natural aptitude for the duty: maturity,high qualities of leadership, tact, and sound judgement. Only mature petty officers, E- 5 and above, over 21-years old are selected. Good petty officers and an effective NCOIC make a strong Shore Patrol Team. They are proving that with properly trained men and good public relations, servicemen will show their appreciation. .
