I Navy wife makes first record album I

Jax-'Tm one of the luckiest Navy wives in Jacksonville," Sherry Childers
says with a smile, "I have a wonderful husband, three children, and I love my
job. Give me a guitar and I can sing my moods, and I'm happy. It gets me out
with people and maybe I can bring a little music into their lives."
Sherry will be bringing a LOT of music May 31. That's the day her first album
goes on sale in Jacksonville. Her .

husband, Jim, was stationed at VW-4 for three years as an ADR. Then,
after changing his rate to NC ((Navy Counselor), he was transferred to the USS
Bigelow, homeported at Mayport.Jim .
often accompanies Sherry on the drums and,of course she consults him on v
booking, arrangements and the many other details.
They went to Nashville about a year ago and cut a 45 record at their own ex
pense. It sold all 1,000 copies. %
She calls the first record her "vanity" record, but she expects to sell her r .q ? r i4.\
album in earnest. She's written all the songs she's recorded.
"We'd sit around and talk and talk and dream and dream. Finally, we decided
what have we got to lose; and nothing ventured, nothing gained. We got such a
kick out of the 45-and my parents were thrilled-we thought it was time for our
'small family business' to 'produce' an album."
Songs on the album include "Drifter", "It's Wrong As Sin", "Please Say You
Love Me", "Wake Me When It's Over", "Truck Driver's Woman", "Because I
Am A Woman", and six others, all to be on her own label."I .
have thoroughly enjoyed working with my own group, The Senco Sounds," Y J yn
she says. "I have been fortunate enough to meet a great majority of the
._
population of Jacksonville through doing shows at the clubs aboard the three -- -- --- ------- W -------------_ -
local bases. Sherry Childers
Advance copies of the album may be ordered by calling 387-2055 in Jackson-
ville. Price is$5.00 plus C.O.D. and handling fee.

Commissary: stores

to "tighten belts" >' I ; _

Jax As the end of the Navy Commissary Store fiscal year approaches -
,stores are faced with some "belt tightening" in the area of
civilian staffing.
Less funds will be available for personnel costs during the last
quarter of the current fiscal year, which ends June 30, according to
Cdr.N.P. Jensen, Officer-in-Charge of the Jacksonville CommissaryStore
Complex.
This will mean some cutbacks in the number of part-time and I
temporary personnel normally employed by commissary stores and a
decrease in the amount of overtime and night hours that can be 1s
worked.As i
a result, customers may find some empty spaces on the shelves,
slightly less meat items on display and, possibly, longer lines at the e n
checkout registers. -
Navy commissary stores are taking action to minimize these in-
conveniences as much as po sible, while maintaining normal =
operating hours. At this time there is no plan to curtail scheduled

hours of operation. _
Each commissary store will make adjustments to stay within f
authorized funding and staffing for the balance of the year, Cdr.

Jensen said.Depending.
on the impact on a particular store's staffing, patron
services may vary from store to store during this period.
The Navy Resale System Office anticipates that the stores staffing
situation will improve during the new fiscal year which begins in July.THI .

.
INTO THE FLEET RESERVE-Master Chief Ships' Serviceman Nathan A. Simpson (Left) is
HAREM *: congratulated by Cdr. Nels P Jensen, Office-in-Charge of the Jacksonville Commissary Store
Complex,as Master Chief Simpson transfers to the Fleet Reserve after 20 years of naval service.
