tion. '
She found that the Florida patrolmen are using a gun manufacturedby
Speedgun X Corporation with a price tag of$2,200 per unit. The gun
shoots a radar beam across the highway, and any car going throughthe
beam has its speed digitally displayed on the receiving unit. It
makes no difference whether a car is traveling towards the gun or
\ away from it; the portable unit measures the vehicle's,speed instantaneously -
and provides the operator with reading., And the
k courts believe the gun. '
\ Law enforcement officers in all 50 states now are:equipped with
similar devices, and the next six weeks will see a concerted; effort on
their part to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities,
"November and December are historically the most dangerous
months to travel on the highway,"Sergeant Maurice R. Dupont, FlIP
Safety Officer, told SN Stewart there are two reasons."
He went on to explain that local traffic was dangerous because of
I weather conditions.Often frost and fog develop on car windshields and
drivers only clear an adequate area on windows to set ahead of them.
With peripheral vision restricted, drivers are involved in accidents

Dupont also said that all leaves for Florida Highway Patrolmen
have been canceled during the holiday period, and that patrolmen
will be augmented by auxiliary forces in an. effort to cut down on the
number of accidents and deaths.
