Every member of the NAS Jax Water Survival Training team is a
professional..the best in the business. They provide expert water
safety and survival instruction to more than 4,000 students annually,
Insuring each student's capability to cope with any situation.
Directed by instructor-supervisor R.L. Callahan (AEC, USN, Ret.),
the team includes M. J. Clark, M.J. Harold, H.A. Parks and C.F.
Morey. They work out of, where else? The indoor pool in Bldg. 614.
4 Their primary mission is to qualify all aircrew members in first class
swimming and water survival techniques. In addition to their U.S.
Navy students, the team has also trained many foreign nationals in
water survival methods and procedures.
Versatile
Versatility is their forte.Not only must each member of the team be
capable of working with water safety training devices, they must also
WWI understand human behavior in the water. They all hold Life Saving
Senior and Water Safety Instructor certifications.Their .
curriculum includes instruction in basic swimming strokes,
floating,drownproofing.concussion swim (in the event of underwater
explosion),and surface oil swim combined with the burning oil swim
where the trainee is familiarized with coping with flammable spillageon
the water surface..
