T a These were just a few of the reactions by the 28 people from the Naval Regional Medical Center that went skydiving for the first time last weekend. The intrepid adventures Included doctors, nurses, corpsmen and corpswaves from the hospital and dispensaries who are trying to form the first skydiving club at NAS Jax. They met on Easter Sunday and traveled to the Palatka Para Centerto jump for the first time.They took their training in the morning,but tk yd s wy ..yr, were disappointed when strong ,winds forced cancellation of anyjumps. v$ tlxA. 4 . k So,the next weekend,most of them went back. After buying your ticket and suiting up, one of the qualified jump- masters carefully checks your reserve chute;'You board the plane and up you go.Looking. down from 3,000 feet (the jump height for static line jumps) isn't too bad, but when the pilot opens the door and the wind rushes in, you can feel the adrenalin pumping at 100 miles a minute LT The jumpmaster checks your static line..it's okay. "Put your feet out," he yells-the first of three commands you hear in the plane. > 3M a You slide cautiously (very cautiously) to the open doorway.. As you stick your feet out, you're surprised at the force of the wind ya blowing your feet backwards. After forcing your feet .down on the small footstep, you receive your second command. i'Get out!" . As you slide slowly out on the footstep, clutching tightly to the wing strut, yourmind desperately trys to remember all the things you're . supposed to do. And then it comes. "Go!" The jumpmaster slaps you in the rear. All those thoughts that were rushing through your head are suddenly gone and your mind is a completely blank.
