I .Other commands urged to jump in too INorth I

Florida Region of the United States Parachute Association He .
has over a thousand jumps to his credit
Training includes classroom instruction from approximately 10 to i
11:30 a.m. and about 30 minUtes to an hour jumping from a four-foot f 5
platform, depending on how quickly you can learn to fall properly.
Then comes the hour of truth.
After buying your ticket and suiting up, one of the qualified jump-
masters carefully checks your reserve chute;'You board the plane and
up you go.Looking.
down from 3,000 feet (the jump height for static line jumps)
isn't too bad, but when the pilot opens the door and the wind rushes in,
you can feel the adrenalin pumping at 100 miles a minute LT
The jumpmaster checks your static line..it's okay.
"Put your feet out," he yells-the first of three commands you hear
in the plane. > 3M a
You slide cautiously (very cautiously) to the open doorway..
As you stick your feet out, you're surprised at the force of the wind ya
blowing your feet backwards. After forcing your feet .down on the
small footstep, you receive your second command.
i'Get out!" .
As you slide slowly out on the footstep, clutching tightly to the wing
strut, yourmind desperately trys to remember all the things you're .
supposed to do. And then it comes.
"Go!"
The jumpmaster slaps you in the rear. All those thoughts that were
rushing through your head are suddenly gone and your mind is a
completely blank.
Falling for a few seconds before your chute opens seems like a
million years, but it's over so quickly. The chute opens and you look up
with relief to see a round, full canopy catching the wind as you float so Y
seemingly slow above the earth.
You can yell and stream, take pictures, pull your toggles and float to
the right, now to the left. It's the most exhillerating experience you
have ever had. THERE'S TURNING, BACK.HM3 Kim Young I.avtlthtplneonhlsflrstlump.

starts coming at you fast. 2-S ACRES

Red Cross Se

I iiwL-d'i __ By Margaret A.Nelson

The involvement of volunteers in Red Cross servicesat
the Naval Regional Medical Center has created an
impressive essence of flexibility making them most
'-
meaningful individuals.The .
x American Red Cross has been identified as "The
'1 f { S yy i Good Neighbor" and, in keeping with this tradition,

4 MN volunteers are ever ready' to',meet, with a variety of
situations each day.
J
j i At all of the"special clinics",such as NAMICFamilyPractice
,; Surgical Clinic, etc., the "lady in blue" is
A.io there to lessen the work-load of hospital personnel. How .
N s"3 F S' !s is a 200 pound Marine like a 100 pound WAVE? If
you expected this to be asjoke, it isn't. Both can be blood
donors. It doesn't hurt, it doesn't cost anything, and a
,a f,;, sF a Red Cross volunteer will serve you coffee, juice and
cake as well
A special class for "Expectant Parents" is held at
NRMC. Each session lasts for six weeks and tells you
everything you always wanted to know about babies, but
were afraid to ask. Fumbling fathers participate in all
aspects of caring for baby.
Taught by Red Cross Volunteers who are not only
I mothers themselves, but R.N.'s as well, the course
emphasizes both the physical and psychological aspectsof
pregnancy and parenthood.
National Volunteer Week for 1975 is Aril! 20 to 26. The
"MISSY"SHARP,Coordinator Recreation, serves punch to NRMC patient Duane Staetyel. Red Cross volunteers at NRMC were recognized for
their thousands of hours of service Thursday at the
Annual Awards luncheon.
"Six things you can give so we can giveHELPBLOODLOVEMONEYCARINGSKILLS. -
