the weightlifting room,a wing of the indoor pool.If .
you walk past the weight room during the exercise

hours, you hear the sound of clanging steel plates,
labored breathing and groans of agony as the final

repetition of a lift is completed.The .
people inside vary from young to old, fat to skinnyand

weak to strong. As varied as the people are their

build muscle, some are preparing for specific' sports,
some to improve health.
For the large majority of people who. remain outside,

the weight room is a mystery. The speculations range

steelThe f

stories of weightlifting being harmful and

dangerous give the majority a false feeling of relief, jhr r n
knowing they will never fall victim to those heinous P w F '
machines.

Then there are the stories of well developed athletes
turning into flab in later years. Obviously many ad I Ii i

vocate perpetual flabiness, so there is no disappointment -
if laziness overcomes the desire to maintain
good health

The NAS Jax weight room is an "L" shaped area

For those who wish a conditioning program without .

the use of weights, there is equipment for that purpose.

In spite of all this fine equipment, relatively few ,

people utilize it. This is good for two reasons, if looked : t
from a patrons standpoint. One: the existing facility v S Ufa.
isn't crowded allowing the loyal few a unique treat. ; '
Two: It makes those who do exercise look much better i ,\ ,

having a planned place for the family to meet after their
