With so many important things on Congress' agenda, /

Let's hope that was his motivation, anyway. Otherwise I

he might as well introduce a bill that says, "Anyone 1 1I
not displaying common sense should be subject to fine or I

arrest", then promptly surrender to the authorities
after introducing the bill. ;

Washington-For the first time since 1959, all active

duty Navy people will receive a new type of iden- ,
tification card.

The new cards, which will start being issued
sometime after Saturday, will combine the current ID
cards and Geneva Convention cards. -

Fingerprints, not required on the new ID's, will be

Soviet submarine technology has been delivered to VX-1, the U.S. Navy's ASW

Mrs. Leonard Anderson, installation chairman, gave the welcomeand
introduced the special guests for the evening:Capt. and.Mrs. Don
Childers, NAS Jax XO and club sponsors; Capt. and Mrs. ,Albert P. 4
Lesperance, COMPATWING 11 and club sponsors; Capt. and Mrs. 4 'sc'l''

The pledge of allegiance to the flag, led by Mrs. Childers, was
followed by the NWCA pledge,led by Mrs. Froitzheim. After an Invocation

Capt.Childers was the guest speaker for the evening. To tie in with I j
f the preparations for our country's Bicentennial, be gave an informative
talk on the history of our flag, telling of Congress'original '
directives and the creation of the Betsy Ross story. Capt. Childers :. 4'
brought a Bennington Flag, first used in the Battle of Bennington in bIa '
1777 and now the official flag for the Bicentennial celebrations. .
Points chairman Mrs. Glenn Hall presented the club jewelry and
prizes earned by the members for the hours each put in for the club
during the past year. Special awards are given to the three club i ): :
members with the most points.Top honors went to Mrs.Lyle Kissner, _.
who worked over 970 hours. Second and third places went to Mrs.

Mrs. Lyle Kissner received a plaque honoring her as the only
member with perfect attendance at 1974 club meetings. Mrs. Froit
zheim was given'a Jax 86 guard in appreciation for her work as DAC
president during the past two years.

After the presentation of the 1974 committee chairman,.this year's
officers were installed in a candlelight ceremony. '

Installed were Mrs. Harry McAllister, president; Mrs. William
Brown, vice president; Mrs. Leonard Anderson, secretary; Mrs. JjjL1IL
Richard Benjamin, treasurer; Mrs Ray Shafer, chaplain; and Mrs.
Robert Judd, parliamentarian.Mrs. .

Becker provided music for the ceremony, including a vocal
arrangement of"The Impossible Dream". In her acceptance speech,
Mrs. McAllister said, 'Tonight we begin a new year. My goal for the
year is to promote the National President's theme 'Growth Through
Understanding'. We haye only begun." '

The Navy Superior Civilian Service Award has been presented to LouisB. '

St.Petery,recently retired as NARF's top aerospace engineer and supervisorof : r
the Weapons Engineering Department. .

Signed by Commander,Naval Air Systems Command, the award is the second

highest Navy citation given for civilian service.St. =

Petery was commended for initiating and developing new technical Ktl Ri 6f i,+'
directive and informative systems which transmit aircraft maintenance data J Jl

and microfilm. The initial system, known as the Maintenance Information fr IL'S l
Automatic Retrieval System MIARS), resulted in savings to NARF of about \

$167,000 annually and has been adopted by the Navy for use in other rework. V1A !

facilities. I'
The second major prototype devised by St. Petery in data management relatesto
the timely update of technical manuals in a system identified as "Technical

Review and Update of Manuals and Publications", (Project TRUMP).
,Recently installed at NARF for East Coast facilities, the system will also be I'I'I
used on the West Coast when installation is completed at.NAS North Island.

Dollar benefits to the Navy are expected to.exceed $21 million during the first I ,

Election of officials Is the main order of business at Saturday's 23r.d
Annual Meeting of the Jax Navy Federal Credit Union at'the Civic Auditoiium.
Three members have been nominated to fill the! vacancy for a three-year term
on the credit committee: Howard L. Card,. Jr.; Edward W. Handke; and Felix

Mendel, III.
The nominees for the three positions to be fiUed on the board of directors are:
LCdr. E. Robert Clfemberlain; Samuel Demps; Master Chief Ron Garren;
Ernest F. Leslie; Thomas Mincey; Capt. Richard C. O'Loughlin, S.C., USN
I (Ret.); Cdr. Marland Ribble; and Alfred C. Seablom, Jr. The board positionsare
also for three-year terms.Each member attending,the meeting is eligible to
vote upon verification of his membership.Prizes .
at this year's meeting total $4,000 in cash. The Grand Prize for the
evening is $2,000; the second and third prize winners receive $1,000 and $500
i respectively. Civic Auditorium doors open at 6:00: p.m. and members are urgedto
I register by 7:00: to tie eligible.for the five Early Bii prizes of$100 each.
I 'Entertainment both before and during the meeting will be provided by the
Florida Junior College Ensemble and Barbershop Quartet, directed by Don
Thompson. Following the elections, Dolf Droge, assistant to the director of
ACTION, will speak on "The American Spirit". ACTION is the federally funded
agency for voluntary service.
After the meeting,members and their guests may dance to the music by the Al
Olson Band until a.m. Set-ups and refreshments will be provided for a nominal

charge.

I know that many of you are already familiar with the
aims and purposes of the Navy Relief Society. However, if f
there are some who are not and others who would like to Know F rr
more in February, Mrs. Rita Nunn from the Navy Relief Society
Headquarters in Washington will be here to conduct the Navy
Relief course. This includes a brief history of the Society
and covers its basic policies and principles, and how these .' ,
may be applied to volunteer work. In addition, extremely ,
valuable information about service benefits and the Navy will .
be provided. "

I hope that you will find it possible to join this course .,
and to help us in this tremendously important service to our
naval personnel. As you know, the work of the Navy Relief
Society is carried on by Volunteers.The ,' ,

classes will be held in the small chapel, NAS, Jacksonville \-
on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00: a.m.
