Jax-Have you ever been lonely in a crowd and.wished someone else would "
make the first move? ,

Ever had feelings that even you couldn't understand?

Wonder why it always happens to you? '" .,
Well, you're not alone. We all feel like that sometimes. Fortunately for us all, it :, .
doesn't have to be that way. j

The Counseling and Assistance Center here has developed a special workshop
dealing with these and other problems that rob us of the joy of being people. This 9 >f
workshop is designed to meet, the needs of a wide variety of people-militaryand
civilian-who want to better understand themselves and others. .
The reasons that people come are admittedly varied, but in over two years of -4. S,5 5--
operation few people have left without words of praise. ,
Some had an emotional or family problem. Some wanted to better manage the
men working for them. Others wanted to get involved in the counseling problems
being conducted by the Navy or ,the city of Jacksonville. Even those who were y
sent under orders from their command found enough value in the week that they

have recruited others by the score to attend. L, r .;

LESOTHO-This African nation has just issued four stamps ,
depicting four native instruments. Two of them are derived from a

are shown on four new stamps of this southwest, Pacific island
grouping. The 4,10,25 and 35 cent items look tempting enough to toss
in a pot and boUt
CAYMAN ISLANDS-Another bird series is circulating .here to
complement the January 1974 original stamp set. This sextet shows
the Yellow Shafted Flicker (3 cent),West Indian Tree Duck (10 cent),

"She knows more about tools than any woman I've ever seen,"says
Mr Robert Brooks, a coworker.Her .
Job at the hobby shop involves keeping track of the tools."You '
pay fifty cents for ten metal disks, which are numbered. The disks are
exchanged for the tools you use,"explained Mrs.Tomes. .
A disk is placed on the box the tool is taken from. She then knows

Her knowledge of automotive mechanics began at her husband's
welding and auto store. Working behind the counter handling auto
parts and bookkeeping were her main Jobs. She refers to herself as the

store "go-fer".
An opportunity tor Mrs. Tomes to put her knowledge into practicecame
S when her two sons became interested in drag racing. When they
began rebuilding cars for racing, they turned to their mother for help.It .
was not unusual to find Mrs.Tomes under the hood, doing a tune-
up by herself. She proved to be a valuable assistant in major Jobs, such
; / ,,>, : ; as pulling a transmission or changing an engine.
f" Although she doesn't weld, she helped chop a Model A Ford by
holding the parts together as her sons welded.
Due to"surgery on her right arm two years ago,she no longer works
on cars. She still does maintenance work on the family lawn-mower

daughter Noreen, 17, is following in her mother's footsteps. She

repacking wheel bearings.
A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING-Mrs. Clarlct Tome .checks .... Hobby Shop's tool assortment to Mrs. Tomes doesn't consider herself a women's libber. She Just

TORRANCE'S KITCHEN

Jax-There are times when, for various reasons we become
separated from our recipe books when it Is time to put together our
column. At those times we are especially thankful for the con r
tributions from our readers which have been assembled in neat
disarray near the typewriter in the composing room.
We tip our chef's hat this week to the Word Processing Center's
Miss Pat Crosby, who has been one of our most faithful contributors
for her recipe for...
VEGETABLE CASSEROLE
4 tablespoons (Sal stick) butter % teaspoon pepper
4 tablespoons flour V4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
ft teaspoon dry mustard 2 cups milk
ft teaspoon salt 4i

lOounce< packages frozen mixed vegetables, cooked and drained
16 small white onions,cooked and drained (or'substitute one 16ouncecan
of small whole onions rinsed well in cold water)
1 cup coarse buttered bread crumbs
V 4 pound chedder cheese grated
Melt butter or oleo in saucepan, remove from heat, blend in flour,
mustard, salt, pepper,Worcestershire sauce; stir in milk. Cook over i
medium heat, stirring constantly, until sauce thickens and boils one
minute.
". Add mixed vegetables and onions; turn into buttered 2-quart
casserole dish. Make a rim of. bread crumbs around edge of dish;
sprinkle cheese over top.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.Serves eight. .a
