the Navy Exchange is due to higher cost prices from the

manufacturers, according to Exchange spokesmen.All .
cigarette suppliers have been charging more for
their products since Dec. 9. However, the Navy Resale
System Office delayed raising Exchange prices until
Dec. 26 to let customers buy cigarettes at the old prices
during the holiday season.
In CONUS, including Alaska and Hawaii, regular and
king size filter cigarettes are now selling for $3.15 per
carton. Non-filter king size and 100mm cigarettes are
selling for$3.25 per carton. This represents and increaseof

-. .warty 15 cents per carton.
y Single packs of cigarettes cost 35 cents per pack.
Navy ships stores afloat and overseas Navy Ex-
changes are also affected by the supplier price increase,
requiring an upward adjustment in the selling price.

eruptions here will appear on two Icelandic stamps issued this month.

the lava from the volcano is shown on the 25 kroner adhesive.
Most extraordinary about the five month long series of arth
shakings and lava eruptions Is the fact that a new mountain 706 feet
high (the Eldfell)was formed as a result of the disruptive activity
Nearly half the town was covered with volcanic lava as the total
population of 5,000 people was evacuated. The earth split open for
almost a mile in an area about 400 yards from the houses on the eastside

TORRANCE'S KITCHEN



Jax-The holidays and their bountiful meals are now things of the
past. For many of us the only reminders are the memories and a
snugness around the middle that was not,felt before.
Just a reminder that we still accept contributions of recipes from
our readers for inclusion in our column and give credit to the con
tributor for those used.
We don't have contribution for this week so we have selected a

recipe for... .
AnnOZ CON POLLO
(Rice with Chicken)

1 Large fryer, cut up >/& teaspoon black pepper
1 cup olive oil or salad oil Pinch of saffron

1 medium onion, chopped /i,medium sized green pepper, {
2 cloves garlic, chopped sliced
6 ounces canned tomatoes 1 % cups uncooked rice
3 pints water 6 ounces canned green peas r
1 bay leaf 1 pimento, cut in strips
3 teaspoons salt
Fry chicken in oil until well browned. Add onion, garlic, tomatoes,
bay leaf, salt, black pepper, saffron, green pepper, and water. Stir
thoroughly and let simmer for 20 minutes.
Place chicken in a covered casserole dish add rice and liquid, and
cook in 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until rice is tender. Heat peas

Some people would probably assume,'and quite naturally so, that
she would be somewhat"taken"by the mounds of publicity and public
attention being a "first" acquires.Or that she would carry a portable
'( soapbox around, ready to attack male oppressors and defend the
woman's cause. Actually,Judy is neither of these extremes, but has
somehow struck a harmonious chord between the two.
Naturally, the publicity has taken affect on Miss Neuffer's life,but
not adversely so. She is more or less paying the price of being one of
the first Navy aviatrixes.The publicity is not sought after, but, on the
.' contrary, she is the pursued. This fact itself speaks well of Miss
Neuffer's accomplishments.She .
o has successfully integrated a totally male environment,yet she

PNCS Watson of VW-4,The squadron Miss Neuffer is attached to,
remarks about the amount of ribbing she has taken and how well she
accepts it. PN3 Roger Gilbert says of Miss Neuffer, "She is the only
woman I have ever worked for and she is one of the best officers I have
ever served with." VW-4's Commanding Officer, Cdr.Siren admittedhe
had a preconceived image of a "tomboy"or"Libber",but actually
Judy was shy at first but was well accepted by the crew.
Cdr.Sirch says,"Her knowledge of the aircraft is above average and
she is a good pilot, a pleasure to have along". d.I
Miss Neuffer enjoys doing things in her apartment. She likes to cook r
and sew (very domestic for a woman pilot). She has two cats which '
keep her company when her hectic schedule allows her a quiet eveningat : ;: _

While in college Miss Neuffer was not a member of any "in- rowd"or _
sororities.She was not a participant in the then popular drug sceneor
campus radical movements. She majored in computer' science,
graduated in June 1970 and was commissioned ensign in June 1970. :

as a person. She is flying because "it is in her blood" and she is .
satisfied with her status.She has no desire to fly combat. Miss Neuffer .

Jax-Military and civilian personnel interested in
preparing for the High School GED exams are invited to
attend review classes starting Tuesday, Jan. 14.
The 14-week course will review the basic skills
necessary to pass the exams and the fee is only$2.
