Navy Parachute TeamJax t .

The Navy Parachute Team from the Atlantic Fleet Inshore Warfare Command in Norfolk,
Va. will present a free-fall demonstration. .
The jumpers are all fighting men from the Navy's elite corps of Underwater Demolition and. SEAL
Teams.
SEALS are the Navy's counter-guerrilla warfare experts and derive their name from the mediumsin
which they operate-SEA, Air and Land. UDT specialists reconnoiter approaches to hostile ;
beaches and clear them of natural and man-made obstacles prior to amphibious landings.

Parachuting plays a vital role in the accomplishment of many missions assigned to the Teams.
The Navy Parachute Team was organized in May 1969 in order to comply with the numerous .
requests directed to Commander Naval Inshore Warfare Command, Atlantic, to provide parachute
demonstrations for civilian and military organizations.Team .
members volunteer for this collateral duty and perform demonstrations on a nottointerferebasis

with regularly assigned responsibilities. -.: .
The demonstrations encompass a variety of parachuting maneuvers. Basically, when a man jumps .
from a plane, he falls in one direction, straight down But while obeying ,the laws of gravity, the
parachutists take advantage of other natural laws while executing controlled turns and acrobatic "

Fornof ,

Jax-"Corkey"Fornof is the youngest high performance acrobatic pilot in the United States.
Corkey's only 27 years old, but he's no newcomer to the air show circuit. He started thrilling
audiences back in 1968 with his P-51 "Mustang"and In 1969 moved to the F8F "Bearcat". :
With the help of his father, he formed the "Bearcats"-the world's first High Performance Civilian
Flight Demonstration Team-in late 1969.
He has performed in every major air show in the United States, Canada and the Bahamas, usuallyon .
programs with one of the military flight demonstration teams.
The F8F Corkey will be flying lathe last of the propeller driven fighters built in the United States.
Designed as"a shipboard fighter for the Navy,it was not completed soon enough to see action in World :
War II; however,it served with the Fleet from 1946 until 1951 as a first-line Navy fighter.,
The F8F "Bearcat" still holds the propeller-driven aircraft record for climb from a standing startto
10,000 feet in 92 seconds.
