CHAMPUS beneficiaries who use civilian hospitals can assure FAi
themselves of maximum savings and program benefits by notifying ,
hospital officials on admission that they are entitled to the benefits of 1
the Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services
(CHAMPUS).
I. Under the provisions of CHAMPUS,retirees and their spouse and-or
.' dependent children are responsible for only 25 percent of the healthcare
bill when they are hospitalized. Authorized dependents of active
I duty uniformed service personnel pay $1.75 per day with a minimum
charge of $25 for inpatient civilian hospital care.
\ Although CHAMPUS Hospital Contractors in each state are con b
tinually briefing civilian facilities on program details, a recent study a
has shown that beneficiaries should remind admissions clerks and "
t
hospitals billing offices of their CHAMPUS eligibility. \
r i Questions on payment procedures by inpatient facilities should be
@, referred by the beneficiary to the state hosoital contractor. l

I t Their primary assignment has been fulfillment of U.S. and North
Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) requirements for surveillanceof :.
Soviet naval surface and subsurface activity in the North Atlantic
and Norwegian Sea. I
In addition, the squadron's P-3C "Orions" collected data for
weather scientists through surveys of ice field build-up and migrationin .
the Greenland Straits, and were on call for search and rescue {laxr ,,
medical evacuations as well.

Coordinated operations with other NATO patrol forces resulted in -< L Le
