: Jax-What is the Army doing at a Naval Air Station?! Maybe you 1
have wondered about this.
The Army's 544th Ordnance Detachment (EOD), is here at NAS Jax ?'4A
because Jacksonville is a strategic location due to its population. The .
544th lends technical assistance in the disarming and disposingof V.i .. .
commercial dynamite, nitro, homemade bombs, improvised explosive M s
devices and renders support in explosive ordnance disposal
assistance when VIP's (President, Vice President or Foreign
,I Dignataries) are in the area.
They "Do Not Search" and "Do Not Investigate", but only render
technical assistance, making explosive devices safe and then
dispose of these devices. '
The 544th conducts classes for local police and civil defense in the
area, giving them assistance in bomb threats and improvised explosive -
devices. They also assist the FBI and Treasury department in tt
explosive ordnance disposal-a.. very dangerous business.
