Navy Relief Drive Picking Up MomentumJax



1973 Jacksonville Auxiliary Navy Relief Society fund-drive officials are
'
looking for the campaign to pick up momentum this week following an en-
thusiastic kick-off meeting May 3.
Nearly '300 NAS department heads, tenant commanding officers and _
designated campaign chairmen and keymen attended the kick-off which %, !
featured presentations by two Navymen and a Marine who related experiencesin
which Navy Relief helped them.
At the close of the meeting, Ltjg) Ted Brooks, Assistant Navy Exchange QL
Officer, presented a $400 check to Capt. W. G. Sizemore, NAS Jax commandingofficer
and moderator for the kick-off activities.

The money was collected from NAS Jax Navy Exchange employees, including
many civilians not eligible to use. Navy Relief.

Pat DiTursi, NAS Jax Navy Exchange office manager,,said this is the twelfthor r -
fifteenth year the Exchange has made their contribution as the campaign ir'
kicked-off.
The staff, Reserve Carrier Air Wing 20 was an early contributor, too, with a $48
donation that topped the Staff's suggested goal of$30. r

Meanwhile, contributions from "friends of the Navy"-retirees, reservists, r 2 '

Navy Leaguers-began rolling in, totalling$3400 by Tuesday morning. 4 f1;
Sparked by the kick-off activities and early contributions, campaign officialsare
hoping this year's effort will match or better. last year's which topped the

The drive is being conducted through June 6 here, at NAS Cecil Field and at _
