Another teacher accused of racial slur
FLORIDAN STAFF WRITER
An investigation is under
way to determine whether
a Marianna High School
teacher used a racial slur
and cursed in the class-
room as alleged by a parent
in a letter to Jackson
County Superintendent of
Schools Danny Sims.
The allegation against
American history teacher
Jimmie Green, who is
black, came to light late
last week. The alleged
incident came just days
after a white Marianna
Middle School teacher was
suspended for writing a
racial slur on the chalk--
board in discussing a rogue"
acronym for the word
Greg Howard, a seventh
grade social studies
teacher at MMS, was ini-
tially placed on suspension
while the investigation into
the allegation was being
done, and a few days later
was placed on a 10-day.
He was also required to
take diversity training,
write a letter of apology to'
the students involved, and
was stripped of his football
Green has not been
placed on suspension to
date, Sims said. He contin-
ues to teach one dual-
enrollment college course
and five classes of high
school American history.
He has worked for the
school system since July
Sims said that students
will be interviewed about
the allegation as part of the
investigation. He would
not disclose further
specifics about the allega-
tion, adding that the inves-
tigation is just getting
started and that he had not
yet spoken with Green
about the matter. He said

Library fully operational
BY DEBORAH BUCKHALTER
FLORIDAN STAFF WRITER
The Marianna branch of the Jackson County Public Library System was back to
full operation Monday, after closing its doors for a few weeks' worth of renovations.
Jackson County Administrative Services Director Pam Pichard, who has assisted
in the effort, said new carpet, fresh paint, and some layout changes have done won-
ders for the facility.
"A lot of people worked very hard on this," Pichard said, "from volunteers with.
the library board and Friends of the Library, to the inmate work crew that moved
books and shelves for us. It was a tremendous undertaking and I think people are
going to appreciate the improvements."
Book shelves were realigned so that wheelchairs can get through the aisles in
most cases, she said, improving access for the disabled.
A new book drop has been added to' the front steps at the Green Street entrance,
and a drive-through drop is slated to be installed on the Caledonia Street side in a
The 10 computers in the library were moved to two walls so that users will have ,
more room and a better atmosphere in which to work.
. The lobbies got new paint, and other parts of the library are slated for a new paint
job down the road, she said.
The children's section of the library is being reshaped, she said, with shelving
already added closer to the floor so that the library's smallest users more easily get
to the books they want. Other changes in that section will likely be ongoing, she
said. A computer for children only, with no access to the internet, may also be
added, fpr instance.
The "books for sale" racks have been removed from the front of the library and
those volumes placed on shelves farther from the entrance.
A grandfather clock which was donated to the library years ago has been moved

Michelangelo Nari. The

Michelangelo opened his

According to. BCF music

Michelangelo remained true
to his wishes throughout the

Michelangelo shared per-'

meaning of his music to the
audience. One particular
story was of his mother's
influence on his life and
music. His musical reper-

The joy and, memories will not 'depart, for we see your
