State to host trails

workshop here

This Wednesday, the public will
have the opportunity to voice input
about the possible location of state-
funded trailways.
The Florida Department of
Environmental Protection's Office of
Greenways and Trails will hold a
workshop on the Recreational Trails
Opportunity Maps from noon to 2
.p.m., in the Jackson County
Agricultural Center on Pennsylvania
Avenue, in Suite 3, Conference
Room A, in Marianna.
The workshop will introduce and
allow comment on the first phase of
the proposed trail network maps of
the state-wide vision for a connected
system of greenways.
The two proposed maps consist of
one multi-use trail that includes off-
road biking and equestrian trails, and
the other is a paddling trail map.
"Every four to five years, we get
the first phase of updates from local
government trail planners on what
they're doing as far aq the develop-
ment and drafting of trail maps. We
take them to the public in the form of
several workshops around the state,"
explained JDEP special project coor-
dinator Heather Pence.
Pence said workshops have been
held in Jacksonville,. West Palm
Beach and Orlando so far, and that
Marianna arid Sarasota will be the
locations of the other workshops.
The time of the 'ilk-hop .coin-
cides with a four-week public com-
ment period, and those interested in
taking a look at the- "vision maps"
and commenting on them do not nec-
essarily have to attend a workshop,
said Pence.

Famers hail a rainy spell

Farmers rejoiced when the skies
opened up to deliver a bit of rain last
weekend and Monday.
Jackson County Extension Service
Director Ed Jowers said the wide-
spread showers and thunderstorms
dropped an average of 1.5 inches of
rain on the area.
Peanuts, cotton and corn are bener
fiting from the soaking, he said.
Jowers said producers are hoping
for another outpouring of help from
Mother Nature in a few days, with
more rain predicted for later this
week and into the weekend..
"It's like ice cream; the more you
get, to a point, the better it is," Jowers

cycle for peanuts and cotton.

Some cotton plants are showing
just a few leaves now, while others
already have early blooms.

er state the plants were in, Jowers
Corn is also in the ground right
now and nearing harvest-size. Most
corn fields are irrigated and are not as
dependent on rainfall, but it'll help
keep the crop healthy for its main
harvest season of mid-to-late July.

Dr John W. Kurp
The Area's ONLY
Board Certified
Chiropractic Neurologist
"The foot bone's connected to the...head bone!"
At Dr. Kurpa's office we know how the feet are the
foundation of the entire spinal pelvic structure. Any
fallen arch or misalignment in the feet can cause pain
(now or later) in the knees, hips, back or neck and i
even cause them to wear out prematurely. Many spinal
conditions are actually the result of feet that are poor-
ly supported, and we can fix that!
We Now Have The AssociateT Platinum from
Foot Levelers. The Associate Platinum is a digital scanner that
examines your feet and each of the foot's three arches. It grants
a color photo of your feet to show where you may have issues
that could affect the rest of your body. We then can recommend
customized Stabilizers made just for you!
