Terriers' Impressive

Comeback In Game

Terriers Come From Behind
in District Game
KATHY BELSER
Special To The Democrat
On Friday, The Terriers were faced with
a district opponent for the second straight
week, and the third district game of the sea-
son. The Terriers moved to (2-1) in district
6 play by defeating SW Florida Christian 57-
44.
A little after the first quarter, the score-
board showed the Terriers trailing 20 points
with a little more than three minutes left in
the quarter.
Thankfully, the Terriers, Akkua Hallback
scored a TD and a 2 point conversion in the
last 3 minutes of the 1st quarter. With 2:50
left in the 1st quarter, the Terriers continue
to reduce the lead when #34 Hunter Ward
intercepts a pass and scores another TD and

follow up with another 2 point conversion.
The Terriers quickly changed the score to
16-20 and still had 2:40 left in the 1st quarter.
The Terriers recover a Kings fumble and take
over on the 15 yard line with a little over a
minute left in the 1st quarter.
With 11:41 left in the 2nd quarter, the Ter-
riers take over on their own 47 yard line. The
Terriers A. Hallback, #9, gets into the end-
zone for another Terrier TD but the Terriers
failed to get the 2 point conversion.
The Terriers take the lead with a 22-20
score. The Kings soon take the lead once
again when they score a TD from a Terrier
3rd down turnover but failed to get the 2
point conversion with 5:39 left in the 2nd
quarter. (22-26)
The Terriers recover the Kings on-side
kick and take over on the Kings 45-yard
line. On 1st down the Terriers #9 runs for
another Terrier TD but fail to get the 2 point

Glades County Man Accused Of Child Molestation

Abuse Happened Over
Several Years
BY JUAN LOPEZ
Glades County Democrat
It was only after they were far away from
Buckhead Ridge, did two children speak of
the events that reportedly traumatized their
lives for years.

A girl, now 14 years old, recently came
forward with details of sexual abuse at the
hands of her mother's live-in boyfriend.
After their mother died, the girl and her
little brother went to live with their aunt in
Jacksonville, who was shocked to hear them
both claim the mother's boyfriend had sexu-
ally abused the girl.
The revelation came when the little boy
relayed to his aunt that he knew about sex.
When asked how, he said he had walked in

on his sister and the nearly 50-year-old man
engaging in a sexual act.
After an investigation spanning several
Florida counties, James G. Reeves, 50, was
arrested on charges capital sexual battery on
a child less than 12 years of age, and lewd
and lascivious molestation on a child less
than 12 years of age.
The Jacksonville Police Department's
report reveals that the abuse reportedly
spanned three years and grew progressively

worse as time passed.
According to the police report, the man
had been in a relationship with the chil-
dren's mother, which started in Okeechobee
County.
The man and the woman moved to Buck-
head Ridge in Glades County, where she fell
ill. His advances toward the little girl alleg-
edly grew after her mother stopped sleeping

Infant Mortality Awareness Day

You probably noticed the pinwheels covering
the lawn at the Hendry County Courthouse. To
honor babies that have died, 1,000-plus pinwheels
were placed in a "memorial garden" during a cer
emony that was held on Thursday, September
23rd. The Hendry County Board of County Com-
missioners issued a proclamation recognizing
September 23rd, 2010 as Infant Mortality Aware
ness Day. Patrick Comer, veteran newscaster and
member of the Workforce Development Board,
was the master of ceremonies.
Kyra Oliver, from the Hayes Foundation, dis
cussed the topic of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome). Cathy Cortez, Executive Director
of Healthy Start Coalition of Southwest Florida
read the proclamation and presented informa
tion about infant mortality and about the Healthy
Start program. LaSheba Travis, Program Manager
for the Hendry County Health Department was
also one of the guest speakers at the event. The
Healthy Start Coalition of Southwest Florida's
statement is: "Saving Babies' Lives through Pre
ventive Care."
They continually strive to reduce the number
of infant deaths, and the number of premature or
low birth weight babies, throughout southwest
Florida.
Healthy Start is a not for-profit agency serving
Hendry, Glades, Lee and Collier Counties since
1992. They help 17,000-plus at-risk pregnant
women and babies each year. Their goals are to
prevent infant deaths and premature babies, and
promote health and developmental outcomes
for children up to age three. The infant mortality
rate in Southwest Florida has decreased by 55%
since the program began (1992-2008). In 2008,
in Southwest Florida, 155 babies were born still
born, or died before their first birthday, and 921

Do Be Aware, Bed Bugs Are Out There!

BY PAT DOBBINS
Bed bugs are making a comeback! Bedbugs
feed on the blood of sleeping humans and ani
mals and can live several months without eating.
Research on bedbugs is limited, but they are not
known to spread any disease. The problems arise
from allergic reactions to the bites, or wound in
fections from people scratching the bite areas.
The living space for bedbugs is not specific
to beds. They can live in the cracks and trims on
the walls and floors, along baseboards, in dress
ers and drawers, in furniture, curtains, clothing
seams, books, and in picture frames.
Bedbugs have nothing to do with cleanliness,
although you should "de-clutter" your home so
that there would be fewer places for the bedbugs
to hide. Bedbugs are excellent "hitch hikers." They
crawl into personal items such as purses, hand
bags, brief cases, luggage, stuffed toys, travel pil

Lf Cyc of the

lows or they can even crawl into the flap of your
shoe or hang out in the overhead storage areas on
planes until they find their next ride! Some people
-^r-

think that hotels are the biggest risk for bedbugs,
but reports of infestations have included libraries,
offices, theaters and retail stores.
The initial bite of a bedbug is usually painless
and it usually leaves a red swollen area similar to
a mosquito bite. The bites are usually located on
the face, neck, arms and hands. If you suspect
that your home has bedbugs, inspect your sleep
ing area thoroughly, lifting up the mattresses and
checking around the framework. They can leave
dark specs (bug excrement) and you can some
times see small bloody smears on your sheets
and pillows. They also shed (leave behind) lay
ers of skins/shells. They are usually active at night
and they are large enough to be seen.
Extermination seems to be the only way to
get rid of these creepy pests for sure. There is no
quick fix and many experts say there is no "mir
acle" pesticide. It usually takes at least two treat
ments to get rid of them in your home. The best

thing is prevention. If you travel, check the hotel
bed areas thoroughly. Once you've arrived home,
put clothes, hats, blankies, stuffed animals, etc. in
the washer and dryer in case any bedbugs are try
ing to "hitch a ride" into your home. Be careful
of any items that you purchase at yard sales and
second-hand stores. Make sure you inspect the
items thoroughly!
Other studies suggest that dry cleaning, freez
ing temperatures, and high heat (washing in 120
degree water, steaming infected areas and drying
on high, 120 degrees for extended periods) can
kill the bugs.
There have been some infestations in Florida,
but these have been mainly in areas with high
volumes of out-of state travelers. Some studies
suggest that places that do not require year round
air conditioning seem to be more susceptible to
bedbugs, but please stay on the lookout for these
creepy pests!

Rainfall Delays U.S. Sugar's Annual Sugarcane Harvest

2010 2011 New

Season Starts On Saturday

With its Clewiston Refinery on pace for an
other record-breaking year, the company's first
ever September start of harvest has been delayed
due to wet fields courtesy of Tropical Storm Ni
cole. U.S. Sugar began its 2010-11 sugarcane
harvest at dawn Saturday -three days after the
scheduled Sept. 29 start.
The Clewiston Sugar Factory began process
ing the first railcars of cane Saturday as well. Both
the harvesting and processing operations oper
ate 24/7 during the sugarcane harvest season that
runs through April.
"Tropical Storm Nicole dampened our plans
for an historic September start, but we are antici
paying a good crop, one slightly larger than last
year's cane crop," said Judy Sanchez, director of
corporate communications.
"Luckily, the sun is shining and the fields are
drying and we'll be able to start harvesting and
processing cane early Saturday to feed the Refin
ery."
Sanchez said that two hard freeze events
knocked most of the crop back to the ground in
late January, but the warm, wet summer condi
tions helped. Growing conditions for the past
two seasons have been remarkably alike -hard
freeze events in the winter followed by excellent
growing conditions over the summer. U.S. Sugar
expects to harvest approximately 6.2 million tons
of sugarcane.

The Clewiston Refinery is I' i'. iii.-: another
record-breaking year, anticipated to produce 14
million cwt of refined sugar for the first time in
company history.
U.S. Sugar's 2009-10 sugarcane crop pro
duced just under 6.2 million tons of cane, yield
ing over 670,000 tons of raw sugar. To support
the Refinery's record breaking pace, U.S. Sugar
imported 46,000 tons of foreign raw sugar for
refining -enabling the Clewiston Refinery to set
numerous production records with 13.86 million
cwt of refined sugar.

In addition to sugar production, the 2009 10
crop produced over 36 million gallons of molas
ses and produced, consumed and/or sold 212,276
MWhr of electric power. Both molasses and en
ergy are annual co-products of the cane milling
process.
"Our company's energy production from sug
arcane replaces 69 million gallons of fuel oil/1.63
million barrels of fossil fuels each year, Sanchez
said. "We produce enough clean, green renew

In its fourth year of modernized, automated
and consolidated operations, U.S. Sugar's state
of the-art sugar milling and refining operations

Tigers and Blue-Devils
Continue their Losing
Streak

BY JUSTIN DIAZ
Special to INI
Glades Central Still 5-0, Clewiston 0-5
Night and day, hot and cold, Raiders and Ti
gers: what do they all have in common? They're
all complete opposites.
Last Friday's game was a perfect example of
why both teams have gone in the directions they
have this year. While Glades Central has seem
ingly flown through every game they've played
this season, the Tigers have been struggling to
put things 1I .. HI. i
While the talent, heart, and drive are all there
for the Tigers, small mistakes have turned into big
mistakes; and have led the Tigers to their dreaded
0-5 start. For Coach Roth and his Tigers, the 55 0
loss to the Raiders couldn't have come at a worse
time.
"I can promise you one thing; we're not going
to quit," Coach Roth told his team after the game.
"I know it's tough, but you've got to believe in
yourselves. You've got to believe. There's a point
where all of this is going to pay off. We've just
got to keep moving forward and put everything
behind us."
For Clewiston, all the pieces are there for them
to have a successful season; the hard part seems
to be putting them all together.
"They're a good group, no question about it,"
stated Glades Central head coach Jessie Hester. "A
bit under manned, and that's always a disadvan
stage; but you could really see the fight in those
kids.
"There wasn't a point where they gave up;
they fought to the end and that's what you want
to see in a football team. It just takes one play,
one guy, to get things turned around; so as long
as they can keep that attitude and that fight, I re
ally think it can happen for those guys.

Glades Central Raiders raise their helmets in triumph after the post-game huddle.

"It's just a matter of trying to get in the play
offs, win the games you're supposed to win, and
you never really know what can happen from
there. Just looking at the team, they've got some
big guys, a real good, mobile quarterback; so like
I said, just keep things in focus and I think they'll
be okay."
Turnovers plagued the Tigers throughout the
game, as well as a couple controversial calls by
the officials. The confusion in the defensive sec
ondary didn't help either as three of Jamarious
Rowley's touchdown passes were thrown to the
same spot; on the same routes.
While frustration filled the Clewiston sidelines,
smiles filled the faces of the Raiders; but maybe
none as much as head coach Jessie Hester. When
asked his thoughts on his team's performance he
replied:
"No question, the first half was perfect foot
ball."
And to be honest, it would be hard to argue

with him. Other than giving the ball away by in
perception in the endzone during the first quarter,
the Raiders scored on every one of their posses
sions during the first half.
The Tigers last shot at putting points on the
board came in the last quarter, with a ,i I, 1 1., i.i
goal on fourth down that floated right.
The Tigers host Labelle tomorrow at home,
and are looking for a shot at turning their season
around. With only one loss being a district game,
the Tigers still have a shot at making it to the play
offs.
While the past few weeks may have taken
a toll on the overall morale of Clewiston, they
haven't really affected their post-season chances
at all. As long as they can keep their intensity level
high and work on avoiding mistakes, they should
be able to walk away with a win tomorrow.
As for the Raiders, it seems like there's no
question about their post-season stance. As long
as they can avoid overlooking games and any up

sets, the Raiders should be playing for the state
title at the end of this season.

Pahokee
Pahokee suffered their third consecutive loss
last Friday against North Broward Prep, 27-18.
Once again, the team's inexperience showed.
Despite gaining more overall yards than North
Broward, their 16 penalties gave the Eagles 111
undeserved yards; and ultimately lost them the
game.
The Blue Devils head to American Heritage
tomorrow, in an attempt to pick themselves back
up after struggling through the past three weeks.

HENDRY COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD
Pupil Progression: Promotion/Retention

No student may be assigned to a grade level based solely on age or other factors that constitute social promotion. Florida Statute 1008.25 requires that any student who
exhibits a substantial deficiency in reading, based upon locally determined or statewide assessments conducted in kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2, or grade 3 must be given intensive reading
instruction immediately following the identification of the reading deficiency. The student's reading proficiency must be reassessed by locally determined assessments, or
through teacher observations at the beginning of the grade following the intensive reading instruction. The student must continue to be provided with intensive reading instruction until the
reading deficiency is remedied.

If a student's reading deficiency is not remedied by the end of grade 3, as demonstrated by scoring at Level 2 or higher on the statewide assessment test in reading for grade 3, the student
must be retained.

The parent of any student who exhibits a substantial deficiency in reading must be notified in writing of the following:
1. That his/her child has been identified as having a substantial deficiency in reading.
2. A description of the current services that are provided to the child.
3. A description of the proposed supplemental instructional services and supports that will be provided to the child that are designed to remediate the identified area of reading deficiency.
4. That if the child's reading deficiency is not remedied by the end of grade 3, the child must be retained unless he/she is exempt from mandatory retention for good cause.
5. Strategies for parents to use in helping their child succeed in reading proficiency.
6. That the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) is not the sole determiner of promotion and that additional evaluations, portfolio reviews, and assessments
are available to the child to assist parents and the school district in knowing when a child is reading at or above grade level and ready for grade promotion.
7. The districts criteria and policies for mid-year promotion.
8. Each school district shall provide written notification to the parent of any student, who is retained because his/her reading deficiency is not remedied by the end of third
grade, that his/her child has not met the proficiency level required for promotion, and the reasons the child is not eligible for a good cause exemption as provided by Florida law.
The notification must include a description of proposed interventions and support that will be provided to the child to remediate the identified areas of reading deficiency.

Successful Progression for Retained Readers
The 2004 Legislature amended section 1008.25, Florida Statutes, to create a new paragraph (7) that provides that all students who are retained in third grade must be provided intensive
interventions in reading to ameliorate the students' reading deficiency, as identified by a valid and reliable diagnostic assessment. This intensive intervention must include effective instruc-
tional strategies, participation in the school district's summer reading camp, and appropriate teaching methodologies necessary to assist those students in becoming successful readers, able to read at
or above grade level, and ready for promotion to the next grade.

This section also requires each school district to establish at each school, where applicable, an Intensive Acceleration Class for retained third grade students who subsequently score at Level
1 on the reading portion of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). The focus of this class shall be to increase a child's reading level at least two grade levels in one year. The
school is required to report the following:

Mid-Year Promotion
According to provisions in the Hendry County School District Pupil Progression Plan, students who were retained the previous year may be considered for mid-year promotion provided the
student has demonstrated the ability to read at grade level and shows mastery of the state standards for the grade level in which he/she was retained. The student must have the skills nec-
essary to successfully function at the grade level to which he/she is being promoted mid-year.

Good Cause Exemption from Mandatory Retention
The Hendry County School Board may only exempt students from mandatory retention for good cause as stated in Florida Statute 1008.25. According to this statute, good cause exemptions
shall be limited to the following:
1. Limited English proficient students who have had less than two years of instruction in an English for Speakers of Other Languages Program.
2. Students with disabilities whose individual education plan indicates that participation in the statewide assessment program is not appropriate, consistent with the requirements
of State Board of Education rule.
3. Students who demonstrate an acceptable level of performance on all alternative standardized reading assessment approved by the State Board of Education.
4. Students who demonstrate, through a student portfolio, that he/she is reading on grade level as evidenced by demonstration of mastery of the Sunshine State Standards in reading equal to
at least a Level 2 performance on the FCAT.
5. Students with disabilities who participate in the FCAT, and who have an individual education plan or a Section 504 plan that reflects that the student has received the
intensive remediation in reading for more than two years but still demonstrates a deficiency in reading, and was previously retained in kindergarten, grade 1, or grade 2.
6. Students who have received the intensive remediation in reading for two or more years, but still demonstrate a deficiency in reading, and who were previously retained
in kindergarten, grade 1, or grade 2 for a total of two years.

The district school board must annually report to the parent of each student the progress of the student toward achieving state and district expectations for proficiency in reading, writing, sci-
ence, and mathematics. Student results on each statewide assessment must be reported to the parent. The evaluation of each student's progress must be based upon the student's classroom
work, observations, tests, district and state assessments, and other relevant information.

Moore Haven City Manager Frank Thomas' Report

Marine Construction Continues And A Strong Decision Made

FRANK THOMAS
Moore Haven City Manager
Under regular business:
*Attached are the departmental performance
reports.
*The City Council needs to be aware of April
Britt's (our code enforcement officer) attendance

at the Oct. 11 through Oct. 15, Florida Association
of Code Enforcement Level 1 certification class in
Tampa. The cost for this training is in the budget
for the upcoming year.

New Business
*After a great deal of thought and debate I

have transferred the Water Distribution Depart
ment to the supervision of the Water Treatment
Plant effective this past Monday.
I feel that better service and coordination can
be accomplished with this change. Billy Joe Wig
gins has a serious problem with this and he wants
to set up a special meeting with the City Council.
I would point out that Section 4.01(5) of the City

Charter gives the City Manager sole authority in
matters of this nature.
On Thursday, Sept. 30 the Garden Club plant
ed flowers around the memorial to Tom Perry in
the park named after him.
Custom Built Marine Construction, our con
tractor on the seawall, began pouring the dead
men anchors for the seawall this week.

in the same room as the
boyfriend.
The girl claimed the
man would call her into
his room at night, almost
on a daily basis, from the
time she was 10 or 11 un-
til her mother's death.
Jacksonville Police
sent the case file to Glades
County Sheriff's Office.
After reviewing the case,
Detective Sergeant Ronny
Baker made contact Vicky
Whitfield of the Child Pro-
tection Team, which had James G
been asked to provide coun-
seling for the girl.
The agent for the Child Protection Team
completed her interviews and sent all the
information she had gathered to Sgt. Bak-
er.
According to the report, Reeves agreed
to meet with Sgt. Baker at the Sheriff's Of-
fice and was read his Miranda warning.
Reeves agreed to speak without an attor-
ney present.
During this interview, the suspect was

questioned about statements made against
him by the children.
He denied ever touching them in an in-
appropriate fashion and said he could only
recall one instance that had
been inappropriate.
Reeves told the officers
that when the girl was 12
years old, she walked into
the living room where he
was asleep on the couch,
grabbed his groin area and
gave him a kiss on the lips.
SHe went on to say that
since he is a diabetic, he has
no sex drive and therefore
would be incapable of do-
ing anything that the victim
stated.
s Reeves told detectives
that his condition is such that
he had contemplated suicide
because of it.
Sgt. Baker reported he had probable
cause to arrest Reeves and did so on Sept.
25.
According to the report, while Reeves
was being walked over to the jail, he re-
quested that he be placed in solitary con-
finement. Officers agreed to the request.
Reeves is currently being held in the
Glades County Jail on a $300,000 bond.

Arrest Report
This column lists arrests, not convictions, unless otherwise stated. Anyone
who is listed here and who is later found not guilty, or has the charges against
them dropped, is welcome to inform the newspaper. We will confirm the infor-
mation and print it.

Faith To The Ends Of The

Earth, And Beyond!
BY REVEREND SAMUEL S. THOMAS, PH. D.+
Saint Martin's Church, Clewiston
Newscast reported the discovery of a
planet in another galaxy in the universe
that is similar to our own Earth. The re
porter stated that it was likely to support life and
that temperatures there would be very moderate.
Unfortunately its distance from the Earth is in
trillions of miles; and it is not likely that we will be
visiting for some time to come -if ever. What is
likely, though, is that this is one of many similar

her eyes. It'd been days, and the situa
tion was getting desperate. A call went
out for a member of the hospital canine corps.
Moments later, Koyla, a 145-pound shaggy
white Great Pyrenees, crawled up on Hazel's hos
pital bed and snuggled her warm and furry body
in next to her patient, who hadn't twitched a mus
cle for days. After a short period of time, they no
ticed Hazel's hand start inching toward the dog.
She began to stroke its fur. Within the hour Hazel
was smiling and talking, calling the huge dog her
friend. What is it about dogs that evoke such a
positive response? Whatever it is, if we were to
have the kind of ministry in our churches, homes,
and communities that pet partners have in hospi
tals, what could that look like? What would faith

Satanic Principles

BY JACKIE MILLER
First Christian Church
Satan's temptation of Eve serves as a
paradigm for all subsequent methods
of temptation. If Christians are familiar
with Satan's philosophy they will be able to rec
ognize the voice of Satan as he speaks through his
children throughout history.
1. The Bible is full of lies. It is myth and leg
end. It is not God's inspired-infallible revelation
to man. Rather, it is an unreliable, uninspired,
inaccurate, sub-historical of the evolution of the
people of Israel.
2. The Word of God is vague, unclear and am
biguous. Therefore no one can really know and
understand what God has said. Everyone has
their own personal, -.,ii. i opinion regard
ing the Bible's teaching; therefore, no one really
knows the truth.
3. The God of the Bible and the Bible itself
are evil. God's laws are unfair, unjust, harsh and
mean. The Bible is anti-enviromental, racist, sex
ist, homophobic, and anti- .. ,li ,; ,i, and so on.
4. Man can only achieve truth, wisdom and
knowledge by forsaking God's Word and discov
ering truth autonomously. Beelzebub 6:16 says,
"Lean not upon the Lord God and His Word but
trust in yourself with all of your heart."
5. Freedom and blessing comes through cast
ing off God's law-Word. Breaking God's law leads
to great blessing and rewards. Regeneration

planets yet to be discovered; and with each dis
cover the chance of finding life increases. One
astronomer suggested that no doubt some of the
life will be more primitive than our own; while
some is likely to be more advanced. When I re
flected on this likelihood, I recalled a passage in
the New Testament that is almost out of context.
The Lord reminds his people that He is the good
shepherd (John 10:14ff). He is known by His
sheep and knows them; and He will lay down His
life for the sheep when called upon to do so.
Then He adds "I have other sheep that are
not of this sheep pen (or fold). I must bring them
also. They too will listen to my voice and three
shall be one flock and one shepherd(vss 16-17)."
Jesus was speaking to a world that knew noth

ful obedience to the will of God, and a willingness
to "come" to the side of others as their advocate
mean in the lives of those around us?
God put dogs on earth to remind us of some
important truths. Following are 10 dog-truths that
will help us grab the robes of sanctification and
wear them:
1. Greet loved ones with wagging tail. The wag
going tail affirms that this is our home, where we
live, where we're safe and where we're loved.
2. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Dogs know
that eating is a celebration of life. Breaking bread
together is holy. Animosities are dissipated at
meals, barriers broken down, friendships re
newed and strengthened.
3. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie un
der a shady tree. Relax, slow down and enjoy.
Give yourself a time out. Opt out, unplug, and get
lazy.
4. Run, romp and play daily. Physical exercise
is as important for the soul as it is for the body.
When we learn to play and stretch and get some

flows from chaos. Salvation and peace is attained
through lawlessness.
6. The path to power and success is not
through humble submisssion to God and His
Word. It is only attained by creating your own
law. You must become your own God and deter
mine for yourself what is good and evil, right and
wrong. Sin-mantra 3:36 says, "I did it my way."
7. Man's problem is not ethical but, metaphys
ical. Man should not try to obey God, but to be
come God. There is no creator-creature distinc
tion. Everything is on the same scale of being.
Get ii ... i ,i end and move up the scale.
8. Man deserves godhood, blessing, power,
enlightenment and salvation by right and not by
grace. Don't ask for mercy -take what is yours!
(The Biblical doctrine that says the sovereign God
gives grace and salvation is anathema to Satan
and his followers. Satan is the father of entitle
ments.)
9. Sin and rebellion against God does not lead
to judgment either in history or the hereafter.
"Don't deprive yourself of the fun things of life
because of the stupid, fictional, outmoded con
cept of judgment and hell." Believers who have
a knowledge of Satan's world view should not
be surprised to find that Satan's children reflect
his doctrine in their thinking, speech and life.
Christians are to reject all such satanic thinking
and are to think God's thoughts after Him. Bibli
cal doctrine should be the foundation of all our
thinking, speaking and behavior. "For with You
is the fountain of life, in Your light we see light"
(Psalm 36:9).

ing about the North American or South American
continents; they hadn't been discovered yet. They
were unaware of life in countries that we know
as China, Japan or the nations of the Pacific. Yet,
they were out there and when discoveries were
made, nobody raised any questions about these
"other sheep" that were not of the known sheep
pen of the day.
Now we are discovering "other sheep pens"
in the universe. Would God's activities and revela
tions be limited to just our own planet and what
we "know?" Such thinking would be very self
centered and self serving. Does God love only us?
There are always evidences of those who think
"we're the only ones" or "we're the only ones
who have it right" and then something comes

exercise, we'll feel better from the inside out.
5. Be loyal. If your dog is nothing else, he is
loyal to a fault. Loyalty's a critical element of dis
cipleship, for it speaks to our relationship with
others: our spouse, our vocation, our community,
and our friends.
6. When you're happy, dance around and wag
your tail. Thankfulness and celebration are pow
erful dynamics for successful and healthy living.
7. If someone is having a bad day, sit close
and nuzzle gently. We all have bad days. That's

along to suggest the world is wider, bigger, more
comprehensive, more inclusive than we could
imagine. I've always been piqued by those who
insist there is only one version of the Bible. Giv
en all of the languages in the world, spoken in
countries and places where God is quite surely at
work, it is illogical to believe that all of the others
must learn one language for the one translation.
This is the kind of limited thinking that handicaps
our believing and is self centered.
It suggests we have a very limited understand
ing of God and His creation. Those "other sheep"
are most likely out there and we need to consider
that they are loved by God, too. It would be dev
ilish to think we're the only ones; very devilish
indeed!

why we need encouragement and affirmation.
When depressed, we know that words are not
always needed. A gentle nuzzle will often bring
us around.
8. No matter how harshly you're scolded,
don't pout -run back and make friends. Carrying
grudges makes life a drudgery.
9. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
10. Bark with your buddies. Barking says we

the 1st half.
In the last 30 sec. of the 1st half the Ter-
riers #6 block the Kings punt. The Terriers
take over on the 26 yard line and with 14 sec-
onds left. Terriers QB A. Hallback completes
pass to #2 Keivon Bell for another Terrier
TD.
The Terriers fail once again to make the 2
point conversion but take a 34-26 lead at the
end of the 1st half.
The Terriers #7 Barrion Cohens takes the
kick off return all the way to the endzone for
the TD and makes the 2 point conversion.
The Terriers take a 42-26 lead from the
start of the 3rd quarter and increase that lead
with 8:54 left in the 3rd quarter.
The Terriers return the punt return to the
20 yard line. The Terriers Terry Hallback runs
for the Terrier endzone and get a Terrier TD
and #1 gets the 2 point conversion giving
thev Terriers a 50-26 lead.
The Kings offense takes advantage of
Terrier penalties and on 2nd down on the
Terriers 12 yard line, the Kings QB pass is
complete and Kings get TD but their 2 point
conversion fails.
The Kings reduce the Terriers led to 50-32

conduct and personal fouls.
The Terriers defense added to the score
with less than 2 min. to go in the 3rd quarter,
when #11 Maurice James intercepted Kings
QB pass and scored a Terrier TD.
The Terriers extra point kick by #50 Berto
Pardo was good and gave the Terriers a 57-
32 lead.
In the fourth quarter, with 6:16 left in the
game the Kings offense run for a King TD
bringing the score to 57-44. The score would
remain for the rest of the game giving the
Terriers a well deserved win.
The Terriers offense and defense both had
great performances. If the Terriers expect to
keep the winning streak alive they will have
to work on eliminating the penalties.
After the game this reporter spoke with
#34 Hunter Ward and asked him what they
did this week to try and come back from last
weeks loss.
Ward stated that they hit the weight room
harder and worked harder at practice.
It looks like that hard work paid off for
Ward and his teammates this week and the
hope is that they work just as hard this week
coming off a win to keep the streak alive.
When speaking with #1 Terry Hallback,
he did not think he had a really great game
because of the coverage they had on him. If
you remember he rushed for over 300 yards
last week.
"I was happy to get the win and another
