Judge Mason's Court.
James Dawson, a well known and
prominent young man of Newberry,
was arraigned in Judge Mason'se ourt
Thursday upon a charge of assault and
battery, the charge havlug been pre*
erred by Class. Hodge.
Ii appears that more than a year ago
the defendant and Mr. Iodge had
some difficulty, in which is is alleged
Mr. i)twon slapped the plaintiff.
Nothing f'irther wa thought of the
matter, and it was supposed all dif.
ferenees had been settled until Mr.
Lodge caused the arrest of iMr. Daw-
son.
The case was continued by request
of the defendant, owing to the inabil-
ity to etrne witnesses. The incident
happened so long ago that the witness.
or have scattered to the four winds, so
to speak, and it is doubtful if they man
ever be gotten together, or if they
could remember the exact circum-n
stance even should they be secured.
Mr. Dawson and his friends anticl.
pate no inconvenience from thil trial.
