y J. J. FInley Chapter, U. 0. C, and
Mildred Lee Ohapter.
An agreeable entertainment was
eu Wednesday afternoon at the
residence of Mrs. W. B. Taylor, iu
honor of the visit of the State Presi-
dest of the United Daughters of the
Confederacy, Sister Esther Carlotta,
to the J. J. Finley Chapter.
In the receiving line were Mrs. W.
U. Taylor, Mrs. J. L. Kelley, Sister
Jfether Carlotta, Mrs. H. H. McCreary,
Mrs. J. M. Taylor and Mrs. J. W.
Owing to limited time no special
program had been prepared for the
occasion. After opening with prayer
from the ritual of the United Daugh-
ter~ of the Confederacy and singing
of the State song, 'Way Dowp Upou
the Suwannee River," the president
addressed the ladies present upon
certain memorialsi in which the
Daughters are interested. She brought
before them in a clear and forceful
manner the needs of these memorials,
and especially urged a more syste.-
latliu contribution frome the chapters
to the Okld Soldiers' Home in Jackson-
ville. Sister Bsther Carlotta told the
chapter bow highly one of ite mem-
bers had been honored at the recent
general convention of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy. In
Houst"h, Texas, in having elected
Mrs. 4. W..Tench an honorary presi-
dent. kor life.
.D behmeano of sandwiches and
coffee were served by the oestess,
after which the.chapter adjourned to
accept an Invitation to a similar enter-
tainment by the Mildred Lee Chapter,
Children of the Confederacy, at the
residence of Mrs. J. D. Stringfellow.
The bright, happy children in their
dresses of white, with red and white
badges, made a truly lovely picture.
The president addressed them along
somewhat the same lines as to the
mother chapter. The enthusiasm of
the children was shown by presenting
Sister Esther Carlotta with a souvenir
of the occasion, a handsome gold
Delicious refreshments were served,
and the little children departed to
their several homes, after many ex-
pressions of delight.
