For all employees

Bonuses approved by county

County employees--who
have not received a raise in the
past three years--will get an
extra holiday gift this season.
The Taylor County
Commission unanimously
agreed Tuesday to give a one-
time, "end of year" bonus of

$500 to all full-time employees
and $250 to regular part-time
employees.
The board held a special
meeting to consider the
bonuses. According to County
Administrator Jack Brown, the
bonuses were recommended by

the county's budget committee,
which consists of Brown,
Assistant County Administrator
LaWanda Pemberton, Finance
Director Tammy Taylor and all
constitutional officers.
Brown said the committee
made the recommendation after

the county received
approximately $1 million in
unanticipated funds, including
$800,000 in unused money
returned to the county by the
constitutional officers for the
past fiscal year which ended
Sept. 30.

Fellow drivers helped gather personal items from the crashed log truck.

Employees who do not
qualify for either of the cash
bonuses will receive a $25 gift
card, which has been the
county's traditional bonus for
the past several years.

308 cars

stopped

at DUI

checkpoint

Some 308 vehicles were
checked during a nearly three-
hour DUI (driving under the
influence) checkpoint set up
Saturday, Nov. 27.
"The Perry Police
Department (PPD) opened the
checkpoint at 10 p.m. on U.S.
19 South. At 10;32 p.m., Sgt.
Gina Deeson had our first
DUI," Sgt. Dodd Franklin said.
A total of three DUI arrests
were made and one of the
drivers was found to have three
bags of cocaine.
Also issued were two open
container citations, eight
seatbelt citations, five no valid
drivers license violations, two
drivers licenses not exhibited
on demand, one expired tag,
one expired drivers license,
one learner's permit violation
and one failure to obey
command to stop.
"We did not want the
average driver passing through
to experience a major delay, so
we had a person monitoring
traffic and timing a random
vehicle every 15 minutes. The
longest delay was around three
minutes and 40 seconds. The
shortest delay was only 35
seconds," Franklin said. "If
you were one of the drivers
who experienced a minor
delay, I hope you agree it was
worth it to get the three DUI
drivers off the road before
someone was hurt."
Assisting were officers from
the PPD, Taylor County
Sheriff's Office, Madison
County Sheriff's Office and
Florida Highway Patrol.
"I would like to thank the
officers as well as the
personnel from the Florida
Department of Transportation
and the City Fire Department
who helped and braved the
cold that night. I don't know
the exact temperature during
the time, but it was 33 degrees
around 4 that morning."

Roof ripped

off log truck

Massive cypress logs pierced the cab of a semi-truck that
overturned Wednesday morning on Mt. Gilead Road, some seven
miles west of U.S. 19 North.
The driver, an out-of-state resident, Gerald Rheaume, was
transported from the scene by Doctors' Memorial Hospital
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and then flown to Tallahassee
Memorial for treatment of "non-life threatening injuries," the
Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The loaded log truck, which belonged to Slack Trucking out of
Shady Grove Fire Department volunteer Gary Williston, was traveling east on Mt. Gilead Road when it rounded

pierced safety barriers and tore off the roof. ,* Please see page 3

'Get your blues on'

at Dec. 10-11 festival

Blues musicians and bands
from around the region will be
in Perry for two days during the
third annual Southern Pines
Blues & BBQ Festival.
The festival, which will be
held at Forest Capital State
Park, takes place Friday and
Saturday, Dec. 10-11.
Admission is $10 for the
weekend.
In addition to five different
barbecue events, almost 12
hours of blues music will fill
the park over the two-day
festival.
The entertainment line-up
this year includes Johnny
Marshall, Deidra Hurdle & the
Ruff Pro Band, Steve Arvey,

King Cotton, Franc Robert &
the Boxcar Tourists and the
local band Alibi.
"We're proud to once again
bring a wide variety of blues
from some of the best
musicians in the region,"
festival board member Dawn
Taylor said.
"Come out and enjoy great
food, great music and a great
time."
Johnny Marshall, born and
raised in Whigam, Ga., has a
touch of that early Robert Cray
styling in his songwriting,
guitar work and his vocals.
His songs are "captivating to
watch and pleasing to hear. A
show that includes Johnnie

Marshall is a must see."
Diedra Hurdle, who will be
here with the Ruff Pro Band,
was recently nominated for two
2010 Blues Critic Awards: Best
Soul Blues Music Album and
Best Soul Blues Music Song.
Born and raised in Norfolk,
Va., Hurdle has been singing as
long as she can remember.
She was raised by her
maternal grandfather, who
wrote and sang songs in The
Church of God in Christ.
In June 2007, Keithen Ruff,
owner of Ruff Pro Productions,
signed Hurdle to Ruff Pro
Records.

Festival to feature electric guitar workshop

FESTIVAL
Continued from page 1
Steve Arvey started playing
music seriously when he was
18 years old while in college.
He and a friend began backing
up musician Robert Hunter and
then Bo Diddley.
Arvey eventually returned to
Chicago, Ill., where he worked
as a sideman on the Chicago
Blues scene playing bass guitar,
guitar, and drums behind such
blues legends as Hubert
Sumlin, Jimmy Rogers, Big
Smokey Smothers and

Homesick James.
Throughout his career, which
spans three decades, Arvey has
performed all over Europe,
America, Canada, Australia and
New Zealand.
King Cotton was formed in
Tallahassee in 1996 around the
nucleus of vocalist Tony
Young, drummer Tom Corbett
and bassist Todd Bevis. During
the early years, the band
experimented with several
different guitarists and even a
keyboard player.
But the band's goal has
always been to take traditional

blues and put a modern spin on
it.
The band logged more than
600 shows during 1997-2003,
while sharing the stage with
national acts including the likes
of B.B. King, Styx and George
Clinton.
After taking a short hiatus
from 2004-2006 and then
making some recent personnel
changes, a new line-up of King
Cotton has been formed.
Newcomers Frank Jones on
guitar and Clyde Ramsey on
organ and harmonica have
given back the group its

The cash bonus amounts will
be "grossed up," in which the
total amount of money given
will be increased so that the net
amount after required tax
withholding will be equal the

amount the employee is
intended to receive.
According to an analysis
provided by Taylor, in the case
of the $500 bonuses, the total
amount will be approximately
$800, which includes $46.02
for FICA, $10.76 for Medicare,
$185.60 for federal

destroyed its roof. Rheaume was out of the vehicle when units
from Taylor County Fire-Rescue arrived.
One of the truck's fuel tanks ruptured, spilling an estimated 50
gallons of diesel fuel onto the dirt road.
Members of a county work crew who were in the area assisted

Safety Jeff Manning, firefighter Dan Cassel and firefighter Marcus

regulations for supplemental
income) and $56.79 for the
employer's required
responsibility for FICA and
Medicare.
The total cost for the
bonuses is expected to be
around $175,000, which
includes 213 full-time
employees (county and
constitutional officers'
employees) and about a dozen
part-time employees.

Season of Thanksgiving continues

By SARAH HALL
The season of Thanksgiving
continues...every day should be
a day of thanking. Take time to
say "thank you" today.
Thought: As you pray, pray
fervently for the safety of our
nation. Blessed is the nation
whose God is the Lord.
Prayer for Peace
By Saint Francis ofAssisi
Lord, make me an instrument
of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me
sow love; where there is injury,
pardon;Where there is doubt,

faith; where there is despair,
hope; where there is darkness,
light; where there is sadness,
joy. 0, Divine Master; grant
that I may not so much seek to
be consoled as to console; to be
understood as to understand; to
be loved as to love. For it is in
giving that we receive; it is in
pardoning that we are
pardoned; it is in dying that we
are born to eternal life. Amen.
Prayers of comfort and
healing are extended to Jenny
Miller and Louise Robinson
(home); Leola Glenn at

Marshall Rehab; Helen Smith
following surgery in

recovering from hip surgery.
Condolences and sympathy
are extended to the families of

Fishing Report

Don't let the cold keep

you away from the fish

BY PAT MCGRIFF
onemorecast@gtcom.net
Don't let the cold weather run
you off as one of the best boxes
of fish I have had in a month
came Saturday (our coldest day
this year).
Our top 10 trout weighed just
over 24 pounds for Dan, Lee
and Jordan Crowe of Bogart,
Ga. Our 20 trout limit weighed
39 pounds! We caught fish
on MirrOlure's Catch 2000's,
Assassin's five-inch shads
(rigged un-weighted) and on
live shrimp under Cajuns. All on
board took good fish including a
26-inch red for Jordan Crowe.
We fished two hours Saturday
morning without a strike then,
when they decided to turn it on,
it was on! We caught our fish in
2.5-3.5 feet of water.
Sunday, I took Amanda
Eldridge and Michael Delk of
Tifton, Ga., out and again fished
almost two hours without a fish,
then began catching what turned
out to be a limit of trout with
three over 20 inches. Amanda
caught the biggest one on an
Assassin five inch shad in the
"goldfish" pattern.
I had limit of trout most every
day from Nov. 19 through Nov.
28 (we were rained out Friday
after only seven keepers). Most
anyone who could fish caught

their limits this week and the
better anglers had some really
impressive stringers. Check out
these reports from the Marina:
Archie and Lonnie Davis
of Lee had their limit of trout
Tuesday, Nov. 23, with a 23.5
and a 26-inch trout to top
the box. They fished a red /
white MirrOlure and some soft
plastics. They also had one
flounder and a 24-inch redfish.
Ray Carlilie of O'Brien
had his limit every day he
fished from Monday through
Sunday (oh, he did go home for
Thanksgiving). He caught some
on a gold Redfin and the balance
on live pinfish. He had one over
20 inches every day.
Glyn McAllister, Barney
Spivey, Will Spivey and Walker
Caves of Douglas, Ga., had 31
trout for two days last week
with 8 over 20 inches. They
were fishing with the 16MR
MirrOlure. Walker took top
honors with a 26-inch trout.
Ron Bailey, Bob Emmett and
Claude Mathis had their limit
of trout Sunday and Monday
fishing jerkbaits and live shrimp
under Cajuns from 3-3.5 feet
of water. They had a real
impressive stringer Sunday, with
three trout over 21 inches long
as I was there when they came in
and cleaned them.

Proposed rule would require hunters

to report all harvested deer to FWC

The Florida Fish and Wildlife
Conservation Commission
(FWC) directed its staff on
Wednesday to advertise new
rule proposals requiring all
hunters to tag harvested white-
tailed deer and report the harvest
to the FWC.
However, the commissioners
directed staff to provide a menu
of options regarding exempt
hunters, showing how those
hunters would report their
harvest. Exempt hunters include
individuals 65 and older and
under 16.
Tagging and reporting game
harvests is commonly done in

many states, and FWC staff
reviewed several other states'
harvest-reporting systems to
see what might work well in
Florida.
The FWC, along with its
stakeholders, continues to craft
a system where hunters would
report their harvested deer, to
better track where and how
many deer are harvested in
Florida.
FWC staff presented a draft
proposal at five public meetings
across the state and gathered
input and feedback through an
online poll.
The proposed harvest-

reporting system would utilize
a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week
telephone and Internet system,
and tags to attach to harvested
deer.
Some of the information
hunters would have to report
includes their customer number,
date of harvest, county, method
of take, hunting with or without
dogs, type of deer (antlered
buck, button buck or doe) and
number of antler points on
bucks. All compiled statewide
harvest data would be available
to the public online and updated
daily, but would not include
hunters' personal information.
"We want to make this
system as friendly as possible
for Florida's hunters," said

Cory Morea, FWC biologist
and deer management program
coordinator.
"We need the data to give
Florida hunters what many
of them have asked for--that
is better management of the
state's deer herd, and at a more
local level. This will give'us one
of the tools to enable us to do
that."
The new rules could be
approved for final adoption at
the February 2011 Commission
meeting and would become
effective July 1,2011, and apply
to the 2011-12 hunting season.
For more detailed
information on the proposed
harvest-reporting system, go to
MyFWC.com/Deer.

Disney releases a new classic

out of the tower in 'Tangled'

Adaptations, sequels and remakes

fill much of December's calendar

The month of December traditionally features a
ix of family films along with the final handful of
award hopefuls, and this year is no different.
Although there are a few big-named releases
in store this month, nothing will compare to last
year's "Avatar." Still, there's plenty to choose from
long with November's holdovers.
SThis weekend kicks things off with two movies
from opposite ends of the theatrical spectrum.
First up is "The Warrior's Way," a very stylized
martial arts film about an assassin
(Dong-gun Jang) who must go on
the run and hide in the American i
,West. Also featuring Geoffrey '
Rush ("Pirates of the Caribbean")' .
mnd Kate Bosworth ("Superman
returns) the movie appears
o be another one of those films
sing almost entirely green-screen
Backgrounds such as "Sin City" or
'300." If you enjoyed those, you'll
probably enjoy this one, at least
based on the trailer.
SThe movie is rated R. .
Expanding into a wider release
ihis weekend is "The Nutcracker
in 3D," a very loose retelling of
rhe classic ballet, one which is sure
o send purists running away in
ears. Starring Elle Fanning ("The
Curious Case of Benjamin Button")
in the lead along with Nathan
Lane ("The Producers") and John
urturro ("Transformers") as the
tat King, this version of the tale
features helicopters, jet packs and a
Citywide war between the prince's
followers and those of the rats. Oh,
It's also in 3D.
S The film is rated PG for themaric
material, scary images, action and
4,rief smoking. -
Next weekend we have the third
ilmbased on C.S.Lewis'acclaimed
fantasy series, "The Chronicles of
Nardiia: The Voyage of the Dawn
'reader." This time around, Lucy
(Georgie Henley) and Edmund .
rSkandar Keynes) Pevensie return
lo Narnia along with their cousin
justice. The trio discover King
Caspian on his way to find the lost
lords of Narnia. Along the way.
they will all be tested by a series
pf mysterious islands. The Narnia
franchise returns to the holiday-
season (which served the first
ilm well) with an adaptation of
probably the best book in the series. ;
The film is rated PG for some XI
Frightening images and sequences
bf fantasy action.
In "The Tourist," Johnny Depp
t"Pirates of the Caribbean") is a IN a-
Inan who finds himself embroiled
In international intrigue after JEF B
pneeting a woman (Angelina Jolie, p Hp
'Salt") on a train. Soon people MATT
lave not only mistaken him for T 1
Somebody else, they're trying to
1 him because of it. After so many '"*
'secret-agent-drags-the-clueless-
woman-around-the-world" movies
dhis year, it's nice to see the gender
ioles reversed here.
t The movie is rated PG-13 for
violence and brief strong language.
SOn Dec. 17, three more movies
)pen along with a fourth expanding
nto wide release.
"How Do You Know?" is a romantic comedy

featuring eese Witherspoon ("Walk the Line") as
twenty-something in an evolving love triangle
vith her baseball player boyfriend (Owen Wilson,
'Marley & Me") and an old friend who is in a heap
)f corporate trouble (Paul Rudd, "I Love You,
Man"). The movie comes from writer/director
James L. Brooks, who was responsible for "Terms
pf Endearment."
SThe film is rated R for some language.
S"TRON: Legacy" comes 28 years after the cult
ci-fi classic "TRON" first arrived in theaters. In

the new film, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund, "Four
Brothers"), son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) from
the original, is trapped in a virtual world, a place
that has imprisoned his father for the past 20 years.
"TRON" is a classic and from the looks of the
trailers, "Legacy" could be in a race with "Naria"
for the box office crown for the month.
The movie is rated PG for sequences of sci-fi
action violence and brief mild language.
Meanwhile, Hollywood's strip mining of classic
cartoons continues with "Yogi
Bear," the latest title to find itself
become a live action/computer
animation hybrid. Yogi (Dan
SAykroyd) steals picnic baskets,
"', Boo-Boo (Justin Timberlake) helps
i and Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh)
scolds. I'm sure there's a plot, but
the trailers don't tell us much.
The movie is rated PG for some
mild rude humor.
Expanding into wide release is
"The Fighter," which tells the true
story of "Irish" Micky Ward (Mark
Wahlberg, "The Lovely Bones").
Helping to train him is his brother
Dick Eklund (Christian Bale, "The
Dark Knight"). This is director
David O. Russell's first film since
his celebrated "I Heart Huckabees,"
and Wahlberg and Bale are near
the top of their profession. This is
probably the most buzzed about
wide release of the month as far as
award potential.
The film is rated R for language
throughout, drug content, some
violence and sexuality.
Opening up early on the
Wednesday of Christmas week
are the final three wide release
mo. ies of 2010 (there are no films
scheduled for the last week of the
month).
"Gulliver's Travels" is an
updated version of Jonathan Swift's
tale with Jack Black ("School
S of Rock") in the title role. In this
version, Gulliver is a travel writer
sent to the Bermuda Triangle only
to find himself on the island of
Liliput, home to a race of tiny
People who see him as a visiting
king. Black is funny with the right
material. Whether this is the right
S material remains to be seen.
SThe movie is not vet rated.

"Little Fockers" returns the
whole gang from "Meet the
Parents" and "Meet the Fockers"
10 years after the second film,
with Greg (Ben Stiller) and Pamela
(Teri Polo) the parents of twins
and another on the way. Robert
De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Blythe
Danner and Owen Wilson are back
as suspicion and misperceptions
once again threaten to destroy the
family. Of course hilarity ensues; at
least that's what the trailers would
have us believe.
The movie is rated PG-13 for
mature sexual humor throughout,
language and some drug content.
And in what most John Wayne
fans will consider tantamount to
sacrilege, the Coen brothers ("No
Country for Old Men") have taken
it upon themselves to remake
"True Grit." The movie features

Jeff Bridges in the Duke's Oscar Award-winning
role of Marshal Reuben J. Cogburn, Matt Damon
as La Boeuf and Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross,
the 14-year-old girl who is determined to find her
father's killer. Supposedly sticking closer to the
book than the 1969 classic, the movie also stars
Josh Brolin as Tom Chaney. The trailers look very
promising, if you're willing to set aside the whole
sacrilege thing.
The film is rated PG-13 for some intense
sequences of western violence including disturbing
images.

Disney has a long and cherished history in
producing some of the most memorable animated
features of all time.
The last decade, however, has not been terribly
kind to the studio, which, aside from Pixar's long
and growing streak of successes, has not been able
to string together very many hits.
After dropping traditional animation for the
computer generated kind, Disney finally returned
to its bread and butter last year with "Princess
and the Frog." That film was a solid addition
to its collection, but the box
office returns did not live up to
expectations, with much of the
blame being laid upon the word
"princess" in the title, which
was thought to have turned
away the young male audience.
Now Disney returns to
computer generated animation,
but keeps much of what made
its past films such classics, with
"Tangled."
Most of Disney's best work .
has come when it's adapting
fairy tales, and that tradition
continues with "Tangled,"
which is a retelling of the
classic Rapunzel, with a few
twists. The filmmakers go out
of their way to retain the feel
of traditional animation, both in
the visuals and the storytelling,
and their accomplishment captures the best of both
formats.
In this version, Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy
Moore) is stolen as a baby from the king and queen
by an aging witch (Donna Murphy, "The Nanny
Diaries") because the girl's hair has been imbued
with magical powers of healing. Kept trapped her
entire life by her "mother" in a tall tower, Rapunzel
is about to turn 18 and longs to see the outside
world, especially a fleet of floating lights that
appear each year on her birthday.
Meanwhile, the thief Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi,
"Chuck") is fleeing the castle's guards after his
latest heist when he comes upon Rapunzel's tower.
Soon they are off on a wild adventure in the classic
Disney sense.
Although one could accuse Disney of pandering

to the young male audience it lost the last time out
by changing the story's title and focusing mostly on
Ryder in the trailers, the film itself is a delight that
is sure to entertain and captivate boys and girls...
and their parents too.
Levi and Moore are great in the lead voice roles.
Levi, best known as the goofball spy in NBC's
"Chuck," has already proven his comedic timing in
that role, and continues it here, where he provides
many of the film's laughs. Meanwhile, Moore
is quite believable as Rapunzel, who is literally
experiencing the world for the
first time.
It also helps that both carl
sing, since that's the movie'Q
other big secret...it's a musical
too. Moore's talents are obvious
on this count, but Levi has also
recorded a single with American
Idol alum Katharine McPhee,
SThe songs are suitably cute and
catchy, although it's doubtful
any will become long-lasting
classics.
As mentioned before, the
animation may have been
accomplished in computers, but
it really does have the feel of cei
animation. The backgrounds are
stunning, while the animators
are able to make use of the
benefits of computer animations
especially with Rapunzel's hair:
Where "Tangled" really shines is in its story,
which combines adventure, romance and humor
in just the right proportions. Rapunzel's new
backstory is sweet and provides the emotional
backbone to the tale.
Disney's usual animal companion quota ir
fulfilled by Rapunzel's lizard and the castle
horse Maximus, who is pursuing Ryder. Neither
talk--thankfully--but they add a great deal to the
film's comedy.
Just about everything works in "Tangled," and
it all combines to make the film the best non
Pixar Disney offering in quite some time. Fans of
Disney's classic along with anyone looking for a
good family film this season shouldn't miss this
one.
The movie is rated PG for brief mild violence.

THE TACO TIMES
December 4 & 11, 1975

IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK
A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS...
It was December, 1975,
and the Perry Kiwanians
had established a Christmas
tree lot with brisk sales
reported.
Florida Power Crews were
putting up and turning on
Christmas decorations up and
down Jefferson Street, with
the City Park Tree expected
to be in full glow by the
weekend.

NOT SO HAPPY NEWS...
Funeral services for
three members of the
Jerry Bowersox family,
missing since Aug. 30, 1974,
were scheduled for Thursday,
Dec. 4, at First Baptist
Church.
The skeletal remains
of the Taylor County family
were found over the
weekend near Lebanon, Va.,
by two hunters in a
thickly wooded mountain
area.
A accompanying UPI wire
photo showed the scene of
the wreckage.

Remember

when...

By ANTHONY L.WHITE

Heel-clicking only

works for Dorothy

I made it home on a wing and a prayer.
It took my Uncle Sonny to realize he
didn't want to spend Christmas hundreds
of miles away from my Aunt Wilma, two
all-night writing sessions, a slow-moving
blizzard and a 26-hour bus ride.
All Dorothy had to do was repeat the
lesson she had learned from being so far
from home, "There's no place like home.
There's no place like home. There's no
place like home." Then click her Ruby
heels tree times. And just like that, she
was back home in Kansas.
've never been to the Emerald City, but
I have been a few places that made me
wish I was back home. A few places I
lived, I don't even care to visit again.
Detroit is one of those places. And, to be
fair to the city that birthed Motown, it's
mainly because my uncle and aunt now
live in Florida. A couple of places where I
took temporary residency, I wouldn't
mind returning to for a lengthy visit or
short stay. New York City readily comes to
mind. And then there was Gainesville,
where I lived off and on for nearly 10
years. It was my destination when I
wanted to get away, but not too far away,
from home.
It's true. There is no place like home.
That is, at least for me, when itucopes to
the holidays.
No matter what my address and zip code
was, or how much I was enjoying life and
work elsewhere, whenever the holidays
rolled around, I excused myself from
holiday-related activities with co-workers
and friends, wrapped up loose ends, and
planned my trip home. The weeks leading
up to Easter, Mother's Day, the Fourth of
July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas were
spent counting down the days and calling
family and friends back home so I would
be up-to-date on everything when I got
there.
Once, I tried to stay away and spend a
white Christmas in the city.
It was December 1993 and I was living
in Detroit. Normally, my aunt and I would
have been planning our trip home for
Christmas, but my aunt had left for
Florida two months earlier because her
mother had been hospitalized. My Uncle
Sonny grew up in Detroit, so there was no
one around to constantly remind me of
home. Maybe that's why I decided to
spend my first Christmas away from
home. To strengthen my resolve, I signed
on to work with a co-writer to complete a
screenplay by the first of January.
It was five days before Christmas, and
my writing partner, Alex, and I were more
than halfway through the script. A slow-
moving blizzard was on its way, so I was
going to get my white Christmas. And,
there was nothing new going on back
home, so I wasn't missing anything.
Everything was going great. That was
until my uncle came in from work and
told me a friend of his was driving to
Florida the next day and he was going to
ride with him so he could spend
Christmas with his wife.
The next day my uncle left for Florida.
As I watched him and his friend drive
away, I realized I'd be spending my first
Christmas away from home alone. I knew
what I had to do.
After two all-night writing sessions to
finish the script, hourly prayers to keep

the slow-moving blizzard from closing the
roads leading out the city, and a 26-hour
bus ride, I stepped off the bus just after
sunset Christmas Eve bearing two
important lessons that I will never forget.
There really is no place like home for the
holidays.
And the heel clicking only worked for
Dorothy.

"My family's been fishing for eight generations. It's just a way of life.
That's why we've got to get this cleaned up."
Pete Floyd
Commercial Fisherman,
Pascagoula, Mississippi

When the spill hit, a lot of people said it would be the end. BP said
they would try to make this right. But how was an energy company
going to help a fisherman?

Putting People to Work
The first thing they did was rent my boat and hire me to help with
the cleanup. They made up my losses so I could pay my bills. And
they worked with all kinds of people here from fishermen and
shrimpers to restaurant owners. It helped us keep our businesses
open. And it helped us make ends meet so we could support
our families.

Staying for the Long Haul
When they capped the well in July and finally killed it, we were all
relieved. But would BP stick around? Well, they did. The beaches
are clean and we're back on the water fishing so things are getting
a whole lot better. They are still here and have said they will keep
working for as long as it takes.

Getting Back to Normal
BP asked me to share my story with you to keep you informed. If
you still need help, please call 1-866-448-5816 or go to bp.com. If
you're wondering what you can do, well the next time you're
shopping, buy a little Gulf seafood. There is none finer.
