Tuesday his supportfor a newly created group
aimed at convincing Alachua County voters to
support consolidation.The .
group Citizens for Better Government, will
campaign to promote approval of the Sept. 4 refer-*

Consolidation would benefit UF students, he
said, despite charges from some opponents who
say students'rent would increase because of higher
property taxes.
"In the long run, taxes should be reduced by
consolidation," Martin said. "If I were a Universityof MIA tt ,IS '

UF business administration graduate James Albies wona

suit against UPs Delta Tau Delta fraternity last week,

and his case has caused us to turn our attention to a

serious issue hazing.

Albies was critically injured in what he called hazing activities
during the fraternity's "Hell Week." He cut off half TkPte'

his scrotum when he dropped the power saw he was

using in the fraternity president's room. He said the acci-

dent happened because he was exhausted after participating

in Hell Week events, which included sleep deprivationand

four-hour sets of calisthenics in a heated room.

Unfortunately, Albies' suit isn't the first documentedcase

of hazing at UF.
