number of households that recycle to the number that

have access to the recycling bins.

More than half of Gainesville's residents use the

laundry basket-sized bins to recycle newspaper,

a aluminum, metal cans, glass and high-grade plastic.

Gainesville has reduced the amount of waste it

produces by about 18 to 20 percent, but we still have a

long way to go.

There's no excuse to throw away aluminum cans if a

' blue bin is sitting in your apartment or on your porch. It's
