Saturday, the UF Animal Welfare Committee is

sponsoring an open house at the Alachua County Animal
Control Center for National Prevent a Litter Month. The

organizers hope to raise awareness about the responsibilities sfto

Animal Control workers have been given for their respon-

sibility to euthanize stray or dangerous animals.

Last year in Alachua County about 12,000 animals were

euthanized, the majority being cats and dogs. Animal Con-
trol officials estimate between 15 and 20 million animals

were euthanized in the United States last year.
