EARCH all the world over,
From Pekin to Dover,
No dog to beat Rover
At swimming you'll find.
No dog can swim faster "-
So says his young master,
Who thinks him the cleverest dog of

his kind.

No lion could catch him;
No cat would dare scratch him;
No diver can match him,"
Says Edwin with glee.
You'll seldom or never
See dog half so clever
As Rover, my pet, who is playing with me."

F ItI ,.

JEACEFULLY is baby sleeping,
Who to harm her now would dare?
Faithful Fido watch is keeping-
See him standing by her there!

Pretty baby! Fido knows her,
Licks her little arms and hands;
Speechless though he is, he shows her
How her ways he understands.

When awake, she tries to pat him,-
Well she knows he will not bite;
Faithful Fido! just look at him!
Is he saying, She's all right" ?

This is clear, he does his duty;
Say we then, our rhyme to end,
"Baby is a little beauty,
Fido is a faithful friend."

CARL AiN PONTO.

TO dogs there were of goodly size;
Their heads were large, and bright their eyes;
Their limbs were strong, and long their hair:
Twin-brothers they-a noble pair.

Which dog was best 'twere hard to tell,-
Each seemed the other to excel :
By all who knew them 'twas confessed,
Each seemed to think the other best.

And though from pride and envy free,
Each strove the better dog to be,
That he example good might set,
To make his brother better vet.

Obedient, patient, faithful, bold,
The pets of young folks and of old,-
You will, I'm sure, at once infer,
What good dogs should be, these dogs were.

MYRTLE $ ND FAN.

V' Y pony may gallop
As fast as he can,
>< But cannot go faster
Than Myrtle and Fan.

They seem to take pleasure
In running with Jack,
Who likes a good gallop
With me on his back.

Fan wants to have something
To carry; so she
Is barking at Myrtle,
At Jack, and at me.

Though Fan is the smallest,
She makes the most noise;
But not to annoy folks,
Like rude little boys.
