by Patty BrantCalosoa Belle Gov. Rick Scott’s visit to Roland Martin’s Marina in Clewiston June 7 should have long lasting repercussions in Hendry County. The meeting was intended to show that the governor is not just focusing on coastal communities, but has a strong interest in inland areas as well. As the key to growth, economic development was the main topic of discussion. Hendry County Economic Director Gregg Gillman was impressed with the visit. Though short, it focused on the economic needs and potential of rural Florida. Mr. Gillman said the governor is anxious for the state to become an economic destination as well as a tourism destination. Economic development is a priority, he noted, and discussion focused on how to make the area’s climate better for business. Gov. Scott took questions and talked with several local representatives. The importance of Airglades in supplying future jobs may show the most immediate promise at this time, Mr. Gillman said, but it’s only part of the equation. “The governor wants to make deals,” he said, “he is looking for a “serious” return on state funding for the state and local residents.” Cities and counties must make a good case that state incentive money will produce results in the form of economic development. Mr. Gillman said he’s excited about the “awesome” things about to happen in Hendry County and believes that there is “more incentive money for Florida than ever.” Funding for economic development is a priority, he added, and he wants to make sure Hendry County gets its fair share. That will happen because Hendry County has some very promising projects on the horizon and show a propsective healthy return on them. The important projects about to take shape at Airgldes will bring the county closer together, Mr. Gillman believes, and there are a number of other projects brewing in both LaBelle and Clewiston that will usher in a better economic future. LaBelle Mayor Paul Puletti was glad he attended the meeing. He said he felt the governor is “genuinely committed” to improving employment in Florida. He said Gov. In Loving Memory of Leroy Miners Jr. 11/20/27 6/13/10 REMEMBRANCE Remembrance is a golden chain Death tries to break, but all in vain. To have, to love, and then to part Is the greatest sorrow of ones heart. The years may wipe out many things But some they wipe out never. Like memories of those happy times When we were all together. ~Author unknown We will always love and remember you, Maggie, Greg, Brandon and Delia 2 Caloosa Belle June 14, 2012its projects and how to improve its chances next time around. He added that there are still funding opportunities this year through the Caloosahatchee Basin Intiiative to access and the city will be taking advantage of them. Mayor Puletti said that was the most valuable part of the meeting for him. Now they know where the city fell down in its applications. The governor is a businessman he wants to see the return for the state’s investment in local projects, the mayor added. “We’re going to take his word and go after the funding.” The Firehouse Culture Center was the only project the City of LaBelle received funding for this year. Armed with this new information, Mayor Puletti said the city will mainly seek money for the proposed Sports Park. It will be easy to show its potential return through hosting tournaments, lling motel rooms etc., the mayor said. For the State of Florida, these Florida returns will mean additional sales tax and property taxes. “I couldn’t be any more excited about his visit,” the mayor admitted. He said the governor “respects” the inland’s ag base and his admin business-friendly administration is looking for projects for Florida and private investment to help support. County Commission Chairman Tris Chapman is in complete agreement with both Mr. Gillman and Mayor Puletti. Gov. Scott’s visit was intended to talk about education and helping improve Florida’s rural unemployment rate, saying his overall message kept coming back to jobs, jobs, jobs. This theme was well received by the 30 business and government leaders in attendance. They are well aware that while some improvement in our employment has been made, it’s still Hendry county’s biggest challenge. Judi Kennington-Korf, Hendry Count y Administrator, asked the Governor about funding for our signi cant transportation needs: four lanes for SR-80 and expansion of Airglades Airport. Florida’s Governor responded: “Show me a return and I will get you the money.” Commissioner Chapman reinforced the importance of improved education to promote and enhance economic development. He pointed out that a task force of community business leaders had attended the Florida Sterling conference in Orlando last week. The Governor said, “I’m supportive of the Florida Sterling process and am a long-time advocate for best practices whether it’s in business, education or government. I have implemented a series of rankings that I also used in my business career and you kno w what? Two things always happen: First, no one likes the rankings but guess what things always get better.” According to Mr. Gillman, the governor has a vision to change Florida from a vacation destination to a business destination “in line what what we’ve been working on for the past year. It’s bigger than Airglades. What’s good in Clewiston is good for the whole county. people and their animals a chance to have fun, show off their skills and interact with others. The dog park facility will include a security fence with separate areas for large and small dogs. There will be water, trash bags and containers available to clean up after the dogs. You can expect to see some obstacles and play equipment like dog slides and tunnels for the dogs as well. The city will be planting trees to help shade the animals and pavilions and benches will be available for the comfort of the humans. Animal Control will be stopping by from time to time to make sure the rules and regulations are being observed. Rules will be posted for all to see. Dogs will be required to have all their immunizations and tags so they can play nice with the others. Dogs must be under the control of an adult over 18 years of age at all times. Rec Director Ramiro Rodriguez said, at least in the beginning, that means all dogs will have to remain on a leash. He said that may possibly be relaxed at a later date, depending on how everything works out. He feels that pet owners may need a little time to get familiar with the way the facility will work and to make sure their animals are suf ciently socialized. There will also be one or two holding pens so owners can use the rest room at the nearby Sports Park without leaving their pet on its own. Only non-aggressive, socialized animals will be allowed. The entire complex will be maintained by Parks and Rec. Mr. Ramiro said the two-acre area is fenced and all that really remains to be done is to set it up. Folks can expect a grand opening event quite soon. Sharyn Schlitter of the LaBelle Woman’s Club was a main force in making the park a reality. “It’s great to see it nally come to fruition,” she said. Mr. Ramiro feels the dog park will be a valuable asset to the community, especially since dogs are not allowed at other Parks and Rec facilities. He added, “I think the response will be overwhelming. A lot of people are excited.” ParkContinued From Page 1 The rst of the summer series of forums for candidates for political of ce in Glades County will be hosted by the Ortona Community Association on Thursday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m. The forum will be held at the Ortona community hall on Hwy 78A (Ortona Locks Road). Interview Tips for Employersby Matt KindermannGenerally, a personal interview is scheduled for candidates after their application has been screened against the required skills, education and experience. Some qualities cannot be judged from a personal interview, such as customer service skills, technical skills, work ethic and dependability. However, interviews are designed to allow the potential employer an estimation of the candidate’s “ t” for the position. For positions requiring effective communication, consider scheduling telephone interviews before personal interviews. Interview questions, whether traditional or behavioral based, should attempt to gauge the ability of the candidate to mesh with the culture of the business, including existing employees and customers, in order to facilitate productivity. Interviewing is a skilled activity and should be conducted by managers or employees with organizational responsibility. The more you interview the better you become, so having dedicated interviewers should improve results over time. Interviewers should be aware of the personal prejudices that everyone has, and work to overcome those prejudices by structuring the interview where common questions are given to each candidate so that answers may be objectively compared. Ensure that questions are asked clearly and avoid overly simple questions that candidates may read into, or overly complicated questions. Take notes on candidates’ answers so that you remember what was actually said, not what you thought you heard or wanted to hear, and keep in mind that the candidate will be nervous. Listening is also a skilled activity, your spouse will agree! Some questions will naturally require thought out answers, while others will require spontaneous answers. Control the ow of the interview by allowing candidate to say all they have to say within reason. Try to estimate a con dent answer from a run-on answer, but never lead a candidate to any answer. Stick to the time limit of the interview as candidates may have had to work in the interview around work or other appointments. Conscientious employers will thank the candidate for their time, let the candidate ask questions and advise them what will happen next and what to expect. I noticed that all your friends have a certain “up yours” attitude ... I like that. 7. Here’s a credit card and the keys to my new car -GO CRAZY. 6. What do you mean you wanna play football? No son of mine is going to live under this roof without an earring -now quit your belly-aching, and let’s go to the mall. 2. Whaddya wanna go and get a job for? I make plenty of money for you to spend. 1. Father’s Day? aahh -don’t worry about that -it’s no big deal. Father’s Day is this weekend. Are you ready? “Ready?” you say? “Ready for what?” One young sage reminded us all of one key difference between Mother’s Day & Father’s celebration when he said, “It’s just like Mother’s Day only you don’t spend so much.” Bill Cosby, an expert of de ning parental roles, wisely summed up what a new father will soon discover about being a dad. He said, “A new father quickly learns that his child invariably comes to the bathroom at precisely the times when he’s in there, as i f he needed company. The only way for this father to be certain of bathroom privacy is to shave at the gas station.” While we chuckle about Father’s Day, we do nd it is an important truth in Scripture. In fact, it is part of the original “top ten” (AKA: the Ten Commandments.) The Fifth Commandment states clearly, Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God gives you.” (Exodus 20:12) Jesus repeated this when in Matthew 19:19 he quoted the fth commandment. Solomon, writer o f three books in the Old Testament, issued this advise: “A wise son makes a glad father.” -Proverbs 10:1 Kid Rock, the musician who is a long wa y from Biblical af rmation, seems to have had a “wake up” call recently. He said, “Being a father helps me be more responsible... you see more things than you’ve ever seen.” Being a dad is a serious responsibility. While it is nice to have Bill Cosby’s remarks and Kid Rock’s thoughts, let’s not get to far from what God Himself declares it is a powerful accountability. If you are a father, let me encourage you to meet your unique role with passion. Often the way your children relate to you will be how they will perceive God Himself. Rise to the occasion, Dad. While you are worthy of the respect as a father, likewise respect is to be earned, over and over again. Most of your bills, banking and shopping can be done online! The U.S. Postal Service has not kept up with the times and they nd more and more excuses to give us less value for the money we spend on them. With Hendry County consolidating its twenty-three precincts into ten, there is even more reason for Hendry County voters to sign up for Vote By Mail. Precinct 1 in Clewiston already has over 3,000 registered voters, and LaBelle’s Precincts 2 and 3 are fast approaching that number. The wait in line to vote will become longer and longer depending on the number of candidates and issues on the ballot, particularly in those hotly contested elections. The advantages of signing up to Vote By Mail already include saving gas since there w ill be no driving to a polling place that could be miles out of the way. You can add to that the convenience of not having to hunt for a parking spot once y ou get there. Voting at home means the voter can leisurely sit at the kitchen table and go over the ballot without feeling rushed or use a computer to research issues and candidates with the ballot in hand if there are unanswered questions. Remember, the voter does not have to rush to the polls after a long day at work to make certain he is in line by the time the polls close. Vote By Mail means never having to miss an election, the voter will get a ballot weeks before Election Day. If the voter decides to actually go to Early Voting or to vote on Election Day, all that needs to be done is take the mail ballot to the polls and surrender it with no questions asked. Vote By Mail means no questions asked about your name, address, or having the proper photo ID. However, if your handwriting has changed for any reason it is always a good idea to re-register to have a current signature on le since signatures are checked. Those annoying political campaign phone calls will stop within a day or two of the Vote By Mail ballot being received at the Elections Of ce. There is no better way to make certain your vote is counted than Vote By Mail. All Hendry County voters need to do is call the Elections Of ce 863-6755230 in LaBelle or 863-983-1592 from Clewiston,. DID YOU KNOW…East Hendry County Drainage District (EHCDD) maintains the canals, ditches, and storm water treatment areas in the area shown on the left. As part of the Federal Clean Water Act, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) determined that EHCDD needed a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) permit. The NPDES permit is a reporting tool that FDEP and EPA use to ensure that municipalities and special districts are properly implementing storm water pollution prevention programs. These programs utilize Best Management Practices or BMPs which are storm water pollution prevention activities or storm water pollution controls. These can take the form of structural components, like the pump station in the area operating at the proper stages or silt fences around construction sites. They can also take the form of community clean ups and education. This ”ier is a reminder that everyone plays a part in keeping our water resources clean. The storm water from the EHCDD ”ows north to Lake Okeechobee via the Clewiston Canal. The lake replenishes water storage areas, helps to irrigate agricultural lands, provides backup water for urban areas, and plays a major role in supplying water for the Everglades. Illicit discharge or illicit storm water discharge means any discharge into the MS4 and/or waters of the United States that is not composed entirely of storm water, except discharges made in accordance with a county issued development order consistent with the MS4 permit, an independent NPDES permit, or as a result of “re “ghting activities. Many seemingly harmless household activities, such as dumping yard waste, draining swimming pools, or household waste water from washing machines, dishwashers or water softening devices into ditches, storm drains and canals are also classi“ed as illicit discharges. These activities can and do cause severe problems in our waterways. Ditches and storm drains are not connected to the sanitary sewer system. They ”ow directly into streams, lakes, rivers, estuaries, bays and eventually the Gulf of Mexico. A ll residents of Hendry County can do their part by properly disposing of wastes and reporting any illicit discharges or illegal dumping to the Hendry County Waste Management of“ce at 863-675-5252. Muse Kids Invited to Ortona Recreation Program Ortona Community Association president Hugo Geistman has announced that the OCA board of directors voted to invite children from the Muse area to enroll in the Ortona's kids summer recreation program. The program will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, beginning on J une 18 and ending August 9. Ortona's recreation program has been expanded to match the summer food service program sponsored by the Glades County School District. Meals will be prepared at the Moore Haven school and delivered to eight sites throughout the county, including Ortona. The meals are free of charge to all Glades County children 18 years and younger. Lunch hour will be 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Geistman commented, "Our Association considers the children in our community our highest priority. OCA has had a kids' summer recreation program since 1993. This y ear we made a special appeal for funds to expand the program from 12 to 32 days. Our beautiful new community park, playground and children's building make an ideal site. W e are excited to be a part of this new effort to bring healthy meals to all Glades County children. This is important because during the summer school breakfasts and lunches are not available to them. We feel strongly that children's minds should also be nourished during the summer. We have planned a stimulating and fun program for them." While registration is not required to participate in the free meal program, parents interested in enrolling their children in the full recreation program should contact children's coordinator Amanda Billings 863-2344288 or Fran Way 883-675-7880. by Patty BrantCaloosa Belle Lake Okeechobee, the Caloosahatchee River shing and boating have been a natural part of this area for longer than anyone can rmember. In fact, it's a big draw for shermen from all over. So, it's a natural place for Storm High Performance Boats to nd a home. Owners Steve Ellyson and Sander Entus have done just that. Local shermen know about Storm boats custom bass and bay boats now manufactured right here in Moore Haven. The company began in 1978 and moved to Fort Myers several years ago, That's where Steve said he really got involved in the business. He and Sander, both Storm boat "groupies," spent lots of their free time just hanging around the operation, soaking it all in. When they got a chance, they bought the business and moved it to Moore Haven. Steve brings to the operation some 14 y ears experience in custom berglass work and admits to being great at troubleshooting w iring problems. The company employs three full time veteran boat manufacturing workers and will be looking for two part timers to do berglass work and general boat rigging. In addition to manufacturing custom boats, Storm also provides professional repairs on all makes and models of boats and has an awesome retail store packed w ith boating accessories like trailers, power poles, upholstery, custom lighting even apparel and tackle. By the way, they will also customize aluminum boats. Steve said their two-year goal is to expand the operation to include 22-24' bay boats, 1818.5' bass and ats boats and airboats. Steve is proud that Storm provides hand-built boats, one at a time, for each individual customer. They can modify the standard layout in any number of ways, all from scratch using raw materials. Storm is also working with a group to manufacture custom boats for veterans and other shermen who need wheelchairs, who have prosthtetics or other special requirements. Boating is a way of life among the shing population around Lake Okeechobee, Steve commented. He said Storm Boats has a reputation among the locals and, as professional, that's where he wants to be "back with the core boat owners." He also said Storm is planning to sponsor four tournaments per year: two open tournaments; one for Storm owners and their guests and a kids tournament. Storm High Performance Boats has the committed angler in mind. This Saturday, June 16, 4-8 p.m., Storm High Peformance Boats will have a grand opening with information, raf es and lots more. Steve and Sander are looking forward to meeting area shermen. The facility is located at 213 Florida Ave. in Moore Haven, at the foot of the bridge, two blocks directly behind the new re station. However you want your boat "from mild to wild" Storm Boats is aiming to get you into your custom boat and out on the water. florida.newszap.com Check out these new features: • Daily Local News Updates • New interactive and easy to navigate format • Plus much, much more!Come see for yourself! 11 Caloosa Belle June 14, 2012 Storm custom boat facility open in Moore Haven Submitted photoWest Glades SchoolMrs. Campbell’s fourth grade students hosted a pet food drive to bene t our local humane society. This project also increases the heat input of peel dryer no. 1 (EU003). The heat input limit of peel dryer no. 1 will increase from 99 mmBtu/hr to 110 mmBtu/hr. As a result of the fuel change for the peel dryers, the Department’s previously imposed continuous monitoring for SO2 and annual testing requirements will no longer be required for the peel dryers. The SO2 emissions as a result of this project ar e projected to decrease by 33.5 tons per year. Emissions are projected to increase for nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, particulate matter and volatile organic matter. The facility is major for prevention signi cant deterioration (PSD). A PSD applicability review indicated that this project did not trigger a PSD review. These emission units are subject to Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 60 Subpart A (General Provisions) and Subpart Dc (Standards of Performance for Small Industrial-Commercial-Institutional Steam Generating Units). Permitting Authority: Applications for air construction permits are subject to review in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 403, Florida Statutes (F.S.) and Chapters 62-4, 62-210 and 62-212 of the Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.). The proposed project is not exempt from air permitting requirements and an air permit is required to perform the proposed work. The Permitting Authority responsible for making a permit determination for this project is the Department of Environmental Protection’s Air Resource Section in the South District Of ce. The Permitting Authority’s physical address is: 2295 Victoria Avenue, Suite 364, Fort Myers, Florida 33902. The Permitting Authority’s mailing address is: P.O. Box 2549, Fort Myers, Florida 33902-2549. The Permitting Authority’s telephone number is 239-344-5600. Project File: A complete project le is available for public inspection during the normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (except legal holidays), at the physical address indicated above for the Permitting Authority. The complete project le includes the Draft Permit, the Technical Evaluation and Preliminary Determination, the application and information submitted by the applicant (exclusive of con dential records under Section 403.111, F.S.). Interested persons may contact the Permitting Authority’s project engineer for additional information at the address and phone number listed above. In addition, electronic copies of these documents are available on the following web site: http://www.dep.state. .us/air/emission/apds/default.asp. Notice of Intent to Issue Air Permit: The Permitting Authority gives notice of its intent to issue an air construction permit to the applicant for the project described above. The applicant has provided reasonable assurance that operation of proposed equipment will not adversely impact air quality and that the project will comply with all appropriate provisions of Chapters 62-4, 62-204, 62-210, 62-212, 62-296 and 62-297, F.A.C. The Permitting Authority will issue a Final Permit in accordance with the conditions of the proposed Draft Permit unless a timely petition for an administrative hearing is led under Sections 120.569 and 120.57, F.S. or unless public comment received in accordance with this notice r esults in a different decision or a signi cant change of terms or conditions. Comments: The Permitting Authority will accept written comments concerning the proposed Draft Permit for a period of 14 days from the date of publication of this Public Notice. Written comments must be received by the Permitting Authority by close of business (5:00 p.m.) on or before the end of the 14-day period. If written comments received result in a signi cant change to the Draft Permit, the Permitting Authority shall revise the Draft Permit and require, if applicable, another Public Notice. All comments led will be made available for public inspection. Petitions: A person whose substantial interests are affected by the proposed permitting decision may petition for an administrative hearing in accordance with Sections 120.569 and 120.57, F.S. The petition must contain the information set forth below and must be led with (received by) the Department’s Agency Clerk in the Of ce of General Counsel of the Department of Environmental Protection at 3900 Commonwealth Boulevard, Mail Station #35, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-3000 (Telephone: 850/245-2241). Petitions led by any persons other than those entitled to written notice under Section 120.60(3), F.S. must be led within 14 days of publication of this Public Notice or receipt of a written notice, whichever occurs rst. Under Section 120.60(3), F.S., however, any person who asked the Permitting Authority for notice of agency action may le a petition within 14 days of receipt of that notice, regardless of the date of publication. A petitioner shall mail a copy of the petition to the applicant at the address indicated above, at the time of ling. The failure of any person to le a petition within the appropriate time period shall constitute a waiver of that person’s right to request an administrative determination (hearing) under Sections 120.569 and 120.57, F.S., or to intervene in this proceeding and participate as a party to it. Any subsequent intervention (in a proceeding initiated by another party) will be only at the approval of the presiding of cer upon the ling of a motion in compliance with Rule 28-106.205, F.A.C. A petition that disputes the material facts on which the Permitting Authority’s action is based must contain the following information: (a) The name and address of each agency affected and each agency’s le or identi cation number, if known; (b) The name, address and telephone number of the petition-er; the name address and telephone number of the petitioner’s representative, if any, which shall be the address for service purposes during the course of the proceeding; and an explanation of how the petitioner’s substantial rights will be affected by the agency determination; (c) A statement of when and how the petitioner received notice of the agency action or proposed decision; (d) A statement of all disputed issues of material fact. If there are none, the petition must so state; (e) A concise statement of the ultimate facts alleged, including the speci c facts the petitioner contends warrant reversal or modi cation of the agency’s proposed action; (f) A statement of the speci c rules or statutes the petitioner contends require reversal or modi cation of the agency’s proposed action including an explanation of how the alleged facts relate to the speci c rules or statutes; and, (g) A statement of the relief sought by the petitioner, stating precisely the action the petitioner wishes the agency to take with respect to the agency’s proposed action. A petition that does not dispute the material facts upon which the Permitting Authority’s action is based shall state that no such facts are in dispute and otherwise shall contain the same information as set forth above, as required by Rule 28-106.301, F.A.C. Because the administrative hearing process is designed to formulate nal agency action, the ling of a petition means that the Permitting Authority’s nal action may be different from the position taken by it in this Public Notice of Intent to Issue Air Permit. Persons whose substantial interests will be affected by any such nal decision of the Permitting Authority on the application have the right to petition to become a party to the proceeding, in accordance with the requirements set forth above. Mediation: Mediation is not available for this proceeding. 419721 CN/CB 6/14/2012 Public Notice 17 Caloosa Belle June 14, 2012 Public Notice Reading a newspaper provides the opportunity to get involved in your community. No wonder newspaper readers are more popular! HERE’S MY CARDKeep the number of these locally owned businesses on hand for all of your service & shopping needs. 19 Caloosa Belle June 14, 2012 By Phillip H. Keyes, LaBelle Lodge #379 F&AMOn a warm Saturday afternoon in early June 94-year-old Brother Kenneth D. Glidden and his wife Betty hosted a delegation of Southwest Florida Masons in their Naples, Florida, home. The occasion was to commemorate Brother Glidden’s 70th year as a Mason. Appropriately, he was given a gold lapel pin by the Grand Lodge of Florida and a framed certi cate. The presentation was made by R.W. Ed Lanham, II, District Deputy Grand Master of the 29th Masonic District. In addition to Mrs. Glidden, a daughter, granddaughter and grandson, along with ve Brothers from LaBelle Lodge #379 – Ray Navor, Master Pro-tem, Secretary Jerry Hubbard, Chaplain Herb Hollenbeck, and Brother Phillip Keyes. Accompanying R.W. Lanham was Fred Wright, secretary of the Fort Myers Beach Lodge. Over a light luncheon, Brother Glidden amazed everyone with his wit and humor. “It wasn’t hard for me to get to 70 years,” he told R.W. Lanham, “all I had to do was wait.” Brother Glidden easily recalled being initiated on July 19, 1941, just after his 23rd birthday. On November 8 that year he was Passed and was already beginning ight training in the Army Air Corps. Less than a month later the U.S. declared war on Japan following the attack on Pearl Harbor. He became a MM on April 11, 1942. His military service was spent stateside as a bombardier instructor due to his poor health and an ulcer. After the war he returned to a career as a farmer and became a husband to Betty. The farming venture, in partnership with his brother, expanded in his native Indiana and in the early 1950s moved to the South Florida farming community of Immokalee and later included an area north of Naples. “I probably cleared the land where this house is now located,” he said. “I was out in this area one day and a man drove up and said he wanted to build houses out here.” Brother Glidden demitted his Masonic membership from Indiana to Immokalee in 1953 and sat in all but the Master’s chair. The year he was to become Worship Master, the ulcer once again emerged, forcing him to decline the nomination. He continued being active in Immokalee and in 1994 moved his membership to LaBelle 379 when it and Immokalee merged. “Becoming a Master Mason was a very important step in my early life and Masonic teachings have provided me with a good solid basis for all the key events in my life,” he said. “if I could give all the 21-year-old men in the country today some advice it would be to seek membership in the Masonic Fraternity. “One not only has to be a good guy to get started, you have to continue to be a good guy to stay.” Glidden, South Florida Mason awarded 70-year pin Submitted photoThose celebrating Mr. Gliddon’s 70th year as a Mason included, from left: Jerry Hubbard, Greg Gunter, guest of honor Ken Gliddon, Ed Lanham, Ray Navor, Phil Keyes, Fred Wright and Herb Hollenbeck. Submitted photoSkydiving?Amy Rouskey, right, shared with the Rotary Club of LaBelle seven reasons Skydiving will make you dive into life, however there was not a rush of volunteers to take her up on her offer in the near future. Here are a few of the reasons Amy offered: facing your fears; it’s mentally and physically cleansing; creating condence; it changes your view. At this point the Rotarians were ready to accept the reasons, but found armadillo racing less challenging. Pictured with Amy is Michelle Brunetto, Rotary President.
