CUSTOM RATES FOR FARM OPERATIONS:IN FLORIDA, 1974-75

D. L. Brooke, R. E. L. Greene and R. P. Muraro

NATURE OF THE STUDY

The tables in this publication show the custom rates for farm
operations paid by Florida farmers in the fall of:1974 and the spring
of 1975. They were compiled by personal interview with farmers and
agricultural caretakers who performed operations on citrus groves and
general farms in the areas indicated in the table headings.
Some of the rates reported are based on only one or two observa-
tions. They may not be relied upon with as much confidence as those
showing three or more observations. The range in rates is reported
for the general farming areas because of a wide divergence in sizes
and types of equipment which could not be separately indicated.
Except in a few indicated instances, material costs are not included
in the custom rate.
These tables were prepared for the use of farmers in planning
annual operations where custom work may be required or may be more
economical than owning all of their equipment. County extension
personnel may find these data helpful in assisting farmers with bud-
geting problems or in answering requests for custom rates for local
farm operations.

D. L. BROOKE is professor and R. E. L. GREENE is professor emer-
itus, Food and Resource Economics Department. R. P. MURARO is county
extension agent in Polk County.
