We started with this question on November 19: Thanksgiving is upon us and Black Friday is coming up fast. So many retailers are opening late on Thursday evening instead of midnight or 5 am on Friday. When do you plan to begin your shopping foray this year? Heres a look at the responses: Paula Richelle Godwin Miller: I have been done since January. I can now devote my time to decorating. Kim Norrell-Snow: 8pm Thursday:) Warren Thomas Pope: Will not shop either day. It is a time for feasting, family and football. Dana Pulley: Those getting gifts, get foodstus from me; for the older members of the family, freezer containers of soups. For everyone else, baked goodies. Cynthia Johnson Sloan: December 24 :) Pierce Parker Parker: Im going to Black Friday. Meike Fraze: In December, late start this year. Then on November 26, we asked everybody if they were taking advantage of Cyber Monday deals. Heres what we heard: Cam Matthew Hayes: I wish! Damien Moralez: Ill take that 12 minutes of silence as a yes. Robert Thompson: Does ordering pizza online count? Mike De Baecke: No, who cares. Tammy Crawford McFarland: No, money to spend. Spent it all on Thanksgiving dinner. Clayton Yarbrough: Spent the same amount I spent on Black Friday. Zero {:>) Karen Lucas Rambo: Yes! Just waiting for more great deals to come into my e-mail! Love to pick and choose! Matthew Bareld: Yes! Working to pay the bill from Black Friday! The next day we asked readers if they used the coupons we published in last weeks edition for local businesses. We posted: There are some great Christmas deals to be found. Flyers with the coupons will be available at participating businesses if you missed it! Heres a look at the responses: Tim Hastings: Mine was missing the Applebees, Outback, and T.G.I. Fridays ... Oh wait never mind. Karen Lucas Rambo: Yes, I used them and appreciated them. I am all about coupons. Teresa Rewis, Sarah Elizabeth Wil liams and Frasers Engine Repair, LLC, all liked the post as well. The annual Lighted Christmas Parade and festival will take place Saturday, so we used Facebook to announce some of the details about the days activities. We posted the following which can also be found at www.bakercountypress.com in the calendar section: Festivities kick o in downtown Macclenny this Saturday for the Christmas festival and parade at 10:30 am. Entertainment will be in front of the City of Macclenny Fire Station starting at 11:00 am. The parade begins at 6 pm and will run along US 90 from Moodys Chevron to the courthouse. Another event will kick o after the parade at Heritage Park. Christmas in the Park runs begins at 8:30 pm. Branch and Dean will be performing along with lots of local talent. This is a benet for Theron Branch who is on the waiting list for a double lung transplant. There will also be a booth during the festival downtown selling food and rae tickets. Womans Club will focus on educationGFWC District 4 Chairman for the State Presidents Project, Janie Ade (right), spoke at the November meeting of the GFWC Womans Club of Macclenny. Support for education is very dear to State President Pat Zazzarino. She is encouraging all clubs to promote support for schools by giving 100 volunteer hours, raising money for schools and writing our state legislators about putting money back into the education budget. Ms. Zazzarino is also working for Womans Clubs statewide to establish 10, $3000 scholarships for women in our state. The scholar ships are being oered in two categories: girls graduating high school and women seeking to return to the workforce or self-betterment. The scholarships will be available for colleges, universities and trade schools. Community ladies are encouraged to apply for these scholarships. Infor mation and application forms are available at the GFWC Florida website: www.gfwcorida.org under the Scholarship Info tab. Ladies interested in nding out more about the GFWC Womans Club of Macclenny should attend the clubs next regular meeting on December 20, at 144 S. 5th St. at 10:30 am, or contact San Beckum at 553-0117 for the date and time of the next Networking Club night in January.
