OTHER LITTLE PEOPLE.


A climbed up in an APPLE tree
To take a view of the town.
When quite to the top he got, said he,
"I am up but I can't get down."

B in a BOX went out to sea,
To fish for crabs and eels.


He raised his cap for a sail; said
How jolly a sailor feels."

/ on a COW went for a ride:
Said he to the cow, "Go trot,"
But with her tail she switched him well.
While she said to herself, I'll not.

D had a DOG whose name was DIP,
Let's go for a swim," said he.


But the


dog

swam


off


to the other

laughed at


sat down to EAT: said he,


"I wish I had some

But all that he had was bread and
cheese,


So he said


to himself, "How


IF for FROGS went out one day,
And sat on the edge of a bog.


He caught a cough,

a cold,
But he never caught sight of a frog.

G met a GOAT in the garden path:
Said he, Get out of my way."


But the goat very

Said he, "Air is good for the brain.

But I'm rather afraid of the rain."

J took a JUG to the river bank,
To fill it with water to drink.
J fell in and was almost drowned

the jug


stayed out on the


brink.

K made a KITE with a great long tail,
And thought he could fly away;


But half of the tail went up


with the


kite,
And half came down with K.


L lit a LAMP, and went to see
If blackberries grew in the night;
But he tore his clothes on a bramble
bush,
And came back in sorry plight.

M for the MOON sat down and cried,
STill he found it was all in vain.


Then he said: "I will buy


me another


Screen cheese,
From the little old man in the lane."

N had a NAG with a sorrel mane
And tail, but his gait was slow:
Said he to the nag, "Tell me your name."


Said the nag, "You


may call


'Whoa!'"

heard an OWL screech: said he,
': -Mrs. Owl, why don't you sing?"


Said the owl, "I


am wiser


than all


the birds,
But I never was taught such a thing."

Said he, when the pie was done,
" I've a very good pie you all may see,.
But there's only enough for one."

R saw a RAT go under a bin,
So he said to the rat, You die!"

And said, as he ran, "Good-bye!"

S put some SALT on a sparrow's tail,
But the sparrow flew away.


Said S,


" If I can't catch a


sparrow


with salt,
PerhapsI can catch a jay."

T in a TUB went out to row
4 On the pond, but the tub upset.


Said he,


"It's all right


if it's wash-


ing day,
For clothes in a tub should be wet."

Was filled with coffee or tea:

planted a VINE in his garden plot,
And T WATERED it well:


Said V,


" Will


the vine bear grapes


or beans ?"
Said W, Who can tell ?"

X in a XEBEC went to sea,
And went out in a YAWL;

They sailed for the coast of Africa,
But both upset in a squall.


Z saw a ZEBRA in the park:
Said he, I've an idea new;
I'll paint my little colt black and white
And he'll be a zebra too."
